Advanced Models 10248 Ferrari F40: Discussion Topic
nerdsforprez replied to XAxles's topic in LEGO Licensed
I dunno..... but I think I am done guestimating. I guess I will just wait for its unveiling sometime in the future....... whenever that is. Ah......hear the rush of disappointment whooshing on by? -
As Deathleech mentioned..... to each his/her own. I really enjoy collecting. But..... totally understand the insanity and distaste of such insanity. I think that is an important distinction and insight to have..... one may not agree with another, but agreeing with or not and not simply understanding something or not are not the same thing....

Advanced Models 10248 Ferrari F40: Discussion Topic
nerdsforprez replied to XAxles's topic in LEGO Licensed
I know we are debating more or less LEGOs release date for this......I just am surprised pics have not been leaked by a disgruntled, rogue, or otherwise mis-directed (or appropriately directly, however you are inclined) employee, -
Yea, I mis-read things. I thought that it would be a random draw out of all the states, meaning every state would have its own random draw from its own pool. But looks like that is not the case
-
although there is a limit of 75 for any given state, the odds of actually hitting that limit are very slim, everyone in the US is still going against the rest of the US. after all 75 for 1 state would be is 15% of the sets (15% of the 500), and since California is the most populated state at 12% of the US population they statistically still wont reach the 75 limit. as for our European friends, your odds are much harder to generalize. after all your entries are based solely on purchasing sets, and DC ones specifically this will dramatically lower the number of entries to compete against relative to the number those of us in the US are going up against. which probably explains why they adjusted the quantities in the way that they did. Agreed, only the top couple of most populous states (CA, NY, TX) stand any real chance of hitting the 75/state limit, but mostly because the least populous states (WY, AK, ND) most likely won't get more than 1 or 2 across the whole state. I do hope that they post the instructions online though. . Yea....I don't see it that way at all. I mean, I know there are some pretty austere states, but no state is only going to get 1 or 2 entries. NO state. I personally know at least 3-4 people in the states listed above (WY, AK, ND) who have personally confirmed with me that they will be submitting emails everyday for the contest. LEGO is too popular guys. EVERY state will have at least 75 different submissions.....guaranteed. So the above comments, IMHO, are kinda null and void. And sorry for the weird reply style.....my reply options are not working.

Exactly. Must be nice to be a LEGO fan from Wyoming. only around a half a million people there. Odds are roughly 80 times more likely to win there then say, California. Unfortunately, I am in Texas......I have like a 60x less chance of winning then someone like in Wyoming.....

We ran it through the dishwasher several times before drinking out of this. There is hardly any frost part left.

I think people need to understand that LEGO is not just for children anymore. The definition of "play well" (i.e. LEGO meaning) is much broader then sitting down and building with the blocks. For adults, the definition may be MOCing, but it also may be investing or collecting. For many adults, this is the definition of "play". Many do not like this, but it is the reality. I am one of those adults. I enjoy collecting almost as much as I enjoy MOCing. The anticipation of owning a collectable is extremely enjoyable. And I should be able to enjoy my hobby of collecting just as much as the next guy/gal who enjoys building. I say keep it a collectable. Love the idea.

Moderators..... move this if you'd like... but I think this post belongs here. Here is my rationale. Two more beloved UCS tumbler tires... for free! This is certainly Technic-worthy news in my book, and I have not yet seen a lot of chatter about this topic here on the forum yet..... period, under any genres. Also, it looks like the batpod is mostly technic anyways.... wonderful, wonderful news. Sorry to all those not in North America, truly am. This really sucks....why would TLG do a promo that is so exclusionary?? I will make my submission, but it also sucks that they are only giving out 75 per state/province. There are some states/provinces with triple, quadruple, etc. the population of othrs! As luck would have it, I live in the second most populous US state ---- BUMMER!

The quip "no news is good news" does not apply here. The fact that there have been no recent postings on this I assume there are no pictures yet. **sigh** :hmpf_bad: -
I previously posted on page 6. Well, it appears that we are moving. Already sold our home and have purchased a new one. Will officially move in about a month and a half. I have had considerable conversations with my wife.... and she is not excited about having a LEGO room in our new house. She doesn't like the fact that I have used our nice office furniture for my hobby. Don't get me wrong, she is totally supportive of it. In fact, we have came to a very amicable......and honestly, favorable solution. She has agreed to let me build a shed or extra room off our garage that will be my personal LEGO cave. Complete with air conditioning, electricity, etc... I will also throw in a built-in shelves and a hig-def sound system (I love music when I build). I will throw pics up here when I am all done.... but it may be a few months. I will likely also be documenting the whole move on my MOCpages site. As I am mentioned before I equally love to build and collect, but when your collection gets too big and you find you spend too much time organizing/fixing/maintaining your collective pieces it may be time for some sets to go......

Best Technic MOCs
nerdsforprez replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have made comments about this guy/gal before. I think he/she is vastly under-rated. As good as this dumptruck is..... I like his WRX rendition even more. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=543552 -

nerdsforprez replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Blakbird, I have the software and have no use for it. I would be happy to mail it to you if you would like it. I have benefited immensely from you renderings and other work.....so I would be happy to contribute to your collection. -
Best Place to Live When it Comes to Buying Lego?
nerdsforprez replied to Deathleech's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I am reading alot of country vs. country comments on here. I don't have much experience with what goes on in other countries. My BL store really only makes US sales and I don't know many from other countries so I cannot comment about that. But..... to turn the conversation in the US... I have lived in a variety of different states. I would have to say that out of all the states in the US, I would say Texas is one of the best ones. I know in Dallas and Austin LEGO is really big, but in San Antonio (where I live now) there does not seem to be the interest (as far as Adult-themed sets go) that there is in other places. Adult-themed sets that are rare seem to not fly off shelves and it is especially nice for me. The Tumbler last year, large Technic sets, Exosuit and other LEGO Ideas (rare) models are always here in abundance. Even the large Architecture, like around a year ago, when it was unavailable from S@H and sky-rocketed in price was here in San Antonio. I picked up several sets and sold them for substantial gains along with the other examples. To be honest with you, I get to pay for my hobby with sales from examples like these. In my experience, where I am now is one of the best places, at least for me, that I have lived for buying LEGO. I would never be able to buy multiple large adult-themed sets like I do now when I was living in other places in the US. -
Enabling httpS youtube links?
nerdsforprez replied to Zerobricks's topic in Forum Information and Help
Sorry but I am going to use this thread as a sort of experimenter's table. Last week I made another post on the Technic forum, and again things did not work even though I used the exact same code. I am going to try again. But here instead of gumming up the Technic forum. None of this is my work so I obviously is not trying to be a media darling....... Okay......Grrr!! worked again. I should be thrilled but kinda not b/c the times that I actually need to it be fixed it is not. Oh well..... sorry for the post I will get it figured out.... -
So I got thirsty after my wife got mad at me. Or....I got thirsty while buiding with LEGO. Either way...... Story at http://mocpages.com/moc.php/413268

Sets that haunt you
nerdsforprez replied to nerdsforprez's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yea.... thats why I posted it specifically in the Technic section. I would assume in a general section sets that "haunt" us would undoubtedly be in favor of UCS SW sets and modular houses -
Sets that haunt you
nerdsforprez replied to nerdsforprez's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hmmm.... As I got thinking about this topic that made me wonder.... and this is probably more appropriate for the 42042 post..... but I wonder how easy (or hard) it will be to convert the 42042 into the 8043.....hmmm..... -
DrJB started a thread a while ago entitled something to the effect of "sets that brought you out of your 'Dark age'". A related thread may ask the question, what sets haunt you (i.e. what sets did you miss while in your dark age) or what sets do you lament the most on missing? To adequately respond to this it probably would be nice to let people know when you "got back in the game" so as to give a time frame on sets that you may have missed. As I mentioned in DrJB's thread, the set that brought me back was the most recent supercar, 8070. So, pretty much I missed out on all the flagship sets before 2011. Instead of labeling off all these sets, if I were to narrow it down to ONE set that haunts me (i.e. the one set that I missed out on, that is currently out of production) the MOST would have to be 8043. So many have modified it, built it, etc... I get the feeling that I missed out on something special. If I had the chance to get any set prior to 2011, that set would be it. What set haunts YOU (given the description of "haunt" above"? Given, I know that we can all hop on bricklink and buy pretty much any set that we want, but they get almost prohibitively expensive, so.... I think people get what I mean by the haunting feeling. The haunting feeling may not really be that we can't get access to a certain set (because, via bricklink we can buy almost anything) but because of the feeling that we "missed" something special while in our dark ages. Instead of spouting dozens of sets off.... try to limit your set to one or two.... I dare you!

Gotcha.... thanx. Looks like I will not be buying it. I should read the whole post, but that is the problem with posts this long. I have not been following everyday (or every week) and sometimes by the time a get around to seeing it again it has changed so much and I don't have the time to get caught up on all that has transpired......

Has anyone considered the following as an actuator for this project? I will not be building the GMK6400, I have my own model that I have built, but am considering buying this bad boy and revamping my crane in the process. If someone has used this actuator before, I am curious to any feedback. As can be seen, it is quite pricey. https://www.bricklin...Eezo&viewCart=Y

Orange Aventador
nerdsforprez replied to Nalyd997's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I can see the complaint of no interior, however, perhaps another way of looking at it is that the black-out panels give a look that otherwise is not possible. When I saw this I reacted very differently.....I thought the blacked-out exterior was unique. I really really like this build. Creator step forward please (if on eurobricks.... if not then get on here...) -
Perfect..... one word of caution. In my project (you probably already saw the post....if not here it is.. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=109820) I found that when increasing the speed of the mustang it bounces all around in the back. The suspension is too weak (or back end too heavy). I even took out the battery pack in the back and just went straight and same thing happened. I would recommend doubling up the shocks back there.... although I haven't looked at it.... not sure it is configured for that. Just a recommendation.
