  1. Excellent builds and a fun story (although my head is still spinning trying to keep up with Sholmes's logic). Great characters! Well done!
  2. Excellent build, and appropriate memorial. And if you've ever fed seagulls, you ARE being attacked when you feed them.
  3. Actually, I misspoke: I use mainly 2x2x2 (not 2x2x3) slopes, but either size works well to create the effect.
  4. I'm interested to see how this ship comes together. Masts and yards look good. Looking forward to more! I use the 2x2x3 slopes in most of my ships. They're VERY solid (the main reason I use them), and even just one row of them does a lot for the appearance.
  5. Beautiful ship! As others have noted, the bow and stern detailing is excellent. Colors work well, too, especially the medium flesh (if that is the color) used high on the sides. Nicely done!
  6. Great job with the ring behind the throne at that size.
  7. Ooh, yes! I've seen that and copied it for a stargate of my own (see here and here).
  8. Officially, the "Four cannons= 1 Firepower" rule is no more, but I agree I still like to use it in my builds. Another situation where the ship stats don't quite make sense in real life is Crew=0 (i.e., no more than approximately 5 men total) and the ability to fire the guns and sail the ship at the same time. But these are allowed by the rules, and as such is good use of ability to customize our ships with the new rules. As for the build, it's a lovely ship! Really nice lines, both in the hull and the sails. That blue stripe on the hull is a nice detail. I've got to try a brick-built hull like that sometime. Excellent ship!
  9. Fishing is now handled through the Adventure MRCA.
  10. I like the dark tan. I think dark green would be too dark. But adding some olive would be good. Not to spoil stuff in the works... ...but you've stumbled onto a component of the Skill tree we hope to have ready later this year. Shh. Don't tell anyone.
  11. I filled one out as well. The only thing that caught me was that the form asks for a URL for the adventure thread before I was expecting to have one posted (i.e., I thought filling the form out would come before I had posted anything). But everything made sense.
  12. A quick update, just so you all know what's happening, and to keep the pressure on us in leadership to get things done : We are working on the new web forms needed to sign up for the Trade MRCA (and the Adventure MRCA). Once the web forms are ready, we will be able to announce a date for the new MRCA. Coming soon; stay tuned!
  13. I love how you have chosen to show off your big cats! I think the panther in the tree is my favorite of the builds (but they're all good). I hope your paper is well received back at the Society.
  14. The ship stat doesn't change, but if a ship has a range of 4, it can move through 5 zones in the MRCA (including its starting zone). It's just how the ship stat is applied in the MRCA, not a change to the stat itself. If it helps to think of a ship's range in the MRCA as it's starting zone + plus it's range stat, think of it that way. Same result.
  15. I think you're right. My bad. Corrington was called in to officiate. I should work on my reading comprehension when skimming old threads!
  16. I assume you mean the duel between Hugo d'Offren and Elysabeth of Drondil. There was another duel in addition to that one, between Philip Janszen and John Hawksbrugh, but it was really just a collaborative story rather than a true duel using the game mechanics. You can see the outcome here, as well as links to the lead-up story. Interesting, though, that both duels were COR v ESL, as would be this new one if it comes to pass.
  17. Yes. I'll answer more in private.
  18. Are these IC statements fro Montoya? Or should this be a PM discussion?
  19. Beautiful ship! Really stunning work here. So much to like, too much to mention. (OK, I'll mention the unicorn figurehead. Nice touch!)
  20. Correct. The main reason I ran through them here in brief was so that players could understand what impact the individual ship stats may have on outcomes, and that might influence someone to design their ship(s) a bit differently than they were considering.
  21. You’ve already been introduced above to my most active character, Governor Willem Guilder. But my sigfig is actually another character, Philip “Pip” Janszen. Captain Janszen was born in Oleon, but his family fled “The Faith” and moved to Eslandola when Pip was very young. Orphaned at the age of 10, he was taken under the wing of MCTC merchant captain Cornelius Reyngout. Janszen got his first merchant command with the Lady of Madrice and later the Far Horizon. He is also a member of the Colonial Council as a member of the MCTC delegation. [Edit: No longer on the Colonial Council, he is currently leading an expedition exploring the New Haven Sea.] Other characters you may see from time to time: Aaron van der Meede was fresh out of law school when a task for his employer sent him to An Holli; Aaron fell in love with the island and never went back to the mainland. He put out his shingle and eventually became a civil servant in Weelond. He has become the de facto mayor of the city as Governor Guilder attends to other matters. He also serves in the Colonial Council as a member of the MCTC delegation. Thaddeus Calvo is an adventurer – somewhat well known in certain social circles – and a sometimes spy. He almost found the fountain of youth, discovered that Mardier had settled the Skaford Heights in the South Prio Sea, and dueled his nemesis to prevent Mardier from finding the lost city of gold. When not in the jungles, he can often be found socializing with his lady friend, Madame Marian Villeneuve, an Oleander widow. [Edit: Calvo is currently part of the New Haven Sea expedition.] General Alonzo is a former officer of the Royal Eslandola Army (and he still wears the golden armor and morion of his royal command), subsequently hired by the MCTC for its militia. After setting up the initial defenses for the new settlement of Salida Este on the island of Ferro Azure, Alonzo was sent to the Prio Seas to oversee the fortification of Fuerte Unido and command all MCTC troops in operation KMA. Cornelius Reyngout is captain of the MCTC ship Prince Fernando. [Edit: He and the Prince Fernando were both lost at sea. RIP.] He was previously tasked with command of the Prince Fernando’s sister ship, the Heart of Eslandia, which was lost to the pirate Bloody Bill. Captain Reyngout mentored Pip Janszen in Pip’s youth. Captain Jack Merker is the former captain of Lady’s Revenge, Wolf, and Wolf II, all lost at sea in one form or another, including service in the Pirate Purge of 616 and the Battle of the Five Fleets. He is currently without assignment in the MCTC fleet. [Edit: He now captains the brigantine Nightwing as part of the New Haven expedition, and secretly seeks Itasca's lost treasure.]
  22. Congrats to the winners and all the participants, and thanks to Maxim for a great mini-challenge! I agree! And from the rules in the first post: "The winning team also has the right to organise the next Soccer Cup!" So it looks like the Sea Rats and @dr_spock will be hosting next year.
  23. That ropewalk is stellar! I may have to steal borrow that design in the future! Love the waterfall and rockwork, too. And I have to get some of those big cats. Excellent! Also curious to find out what has happened to Montoya. I'm sure we're in for an interesting story.
  24. @Phred, something weird appears to be going on in the spreadsheets. My account's September starting value for the month has dropped more than 1300 DBs, and settlement values have skyrocketed since I looked at them on Tuesday. What's up?
  25. That dresser would work (and would look even better if the top were tiled). I'd modify the bed design slightly to give it corner posts.
