  1. You've pretty much nailed it. It's no great change of epoch (although we do have a general theme for the challenges that you'll see in Era II), it's mainly just rule updates: upgraded MRCA (including automated calculation), new ship classes (which are ready to go with the exception that the functioning of the range stat can't be finalized until we know exactly how MRCA 2 will deal with ship range), new rules to cover adventuring/exploring the unknown, a system to use improving your RL building skills to gain in-game benefits, and some other miscellaneous rules to fill in gaps in the current ones. Your guess of "two months away" probably isn't that far off, although we're really trying to make it sooner than that. But with all the rule updates, it gives us a chance to dress up and refresh the faction threads and stuff like that.
  2. Thank you very much! Looking back now, I could have left out the base. So technically the windmill itself is only 8 pieces. Thanks! I think windmills are the forgotten factories for the BoBS time period. Thanks! And I'm definitely curious to see what you could do with the "8 piece challenge"!
  3. Awesome build, Bregir! I'm a big fan of these "process" builds. And do the gears actually work, as it appears they do? Impressive!
  4. I don't get the popularity of the Gourmet Chef. I'll be very disappointed if she defeats Lady Liberty.
  5. Welcome to BoBS! I really like your sigfig. Great use of that zombie pirate captain torso with your rumored Corrington backstory. Looking forward to seeing your ship!
  6. "Captain Morgan, perhaps we will see each other again soon in the company of Lord Damaximus. Until then, unless you have anything else you want to discuss at the moment, we must excuse ourselves to attend to affairs here and elsewhere. We have much to do, as I am certain you do as well." Guilder moved his cane to his left hand so he could shake the captain's hand with his right. Then Guilder turned to Montoya and bowed his head in a crisp nod. "Gentlemen, good day and fair seas to you."
  7. "I will indeed give your regards to Damaximus" Guilder said with a bit of a flourish. It was a side of him the others had not seen at these talks previously. Guilder rolled this new information around in his head. A nation of Sea Rats. It was hard to fathom. Yet from all Guilder had heard, if there was a man in the Brick Seas who could pull this off, Captain Morgan may be that man. "My dear captain, thank you for presenting yourself to us here today. Although I must ask for your forgiveness while I grapple with the idea of the Sea Rats as a nation, I welcome the opportunity you have presented, the chance to consult or negotiate when cause arises with someone who can represent them. I truly wish you good luck in this venture, as I imagine it can only help relations between us."
  8. Guilder addressed Don Isaac Montoya. "Sir, the terms are indeed understood and agreed upon, and you can count on my word as good as gold." Under his breath, Guilder muttered "To Sol and Luna, I swear I never want to go through that again!" The entrance of Captain Morgan to the occasion surprised Guilder just as it did everyone else. While Montoya spoke, Guilder surveyed this tall young man of whom he had heard so much. Guilder then addressed Morgan. "Captain Morgan, I know of no instances of piracy by you against any ships of Eslandola, and no Eslandolan warrants for your arrest of any kind. Your actions at the Battle of the Five Fleets were under proper Mardierian letter of marque, so we have no quarrel with you. In fact, as much as it chagrins me, I must say that I've heard several sea captains discussing your prowess in battle." Guilder paused to assess whether these words had any outward effect on the young captain, then continued. "So am I to take it that you present yourself here as a representative, dare I say ambassador, of what some might call the nation of Sea Rats?" As Guilder finished, an Eslandolan officer approached the tent with a letter. Guilder looked it over, then said "It appears Lord Damaximus has sent you a note" as he handed the folded paper to Captain Morgan.
  9. A post mill (small factory) for Puerto Desafio.
  10. Another property for Puerto Desafio: a post mill to grind grain into flour. This will be licensed as a small factory. When we first starting discussing the microbuild prizes from Challenge V, Captain Braunsfeld asked "you mean, like, no more than 8 pieces?" or something like that. So for this microbuild I decided to see if I could in fact make it with only 8 pieces. Alas, with the technic pin that holds on the sails, it uses 9 pieces. So close! All C&C welcome!
  11. CD, no worries! I don't think anyone here took it personally, but thanks for clarifying.
  12. Guilder sighed. He knew there was a cloud of exasperation among the various Eslandolan stakeholders. Guilder, Monezterrell, and Bowditch could only promise so much before their constituencies would balk. "Sir, you ask too much. I have stood here and negotiated in good faith to resolve what my countrymen believe to be an egregious transgression on your countrymen's part. I have gone farther than many of my countrymen would have me go. Many feel we have bent over backwards to prevent the outbreak of war without signing away our rights. The time has come for you to step up to the bar and take responsibility for your actions and your commitments, sir. We have made a fair offer. It is up to you to decide whether or not the remaining difference is worth war. I have lost a leg to a Mardierian cannoball; I am not going to cower in fear of a Corrie musketball! My last offer stands. What shall it be?"
  13. We have licensed some of our builds. And we actually like the name Nova Malto. We think it has an Eslandian ring to it, and it's not reusing the Mardierian name straight. So if you don't mind letting us use it, it'd be appreciated.
  14. Guilder looked sternly at Montoya. "All I said was that I was surprised Corrington needed assistance. If you inferred anything else from that, that is on you. And it is ever so generous of you to be willing to grant us full sovereignty over an island that is rightfully ours." Guilder harumphed as he assessed the Corrington consul. "These talks have been trying on all concerned, so I will attempt to refrain from further comment on 'gentlemanly behavior' and stay on point." Guilder was clearly frustrated with his counterpart. "I will concur with your assessment of the quantity of work done by your countrymen here. The White Glove Order medics that have been administering aid have confirmed as much to me. But I also expect Corrington to take on some of the responsibilities of their commitments. By my calculations, Corrington's benefits from the war are enough to easily build up a new Nova Malto to anywhere from a third to two-thirds the size of a town." (OOC: the value of the microbuild prizes intended to represent war refugees). "I believe I can commit Eslandola resources to build enough properties to bring your new Nova Malto to half the size of a town." (OOC: 5 or 6 property levels.) "I believe we can accomplish this within the next 30 days. In the interest of peace and continued good relations between our two nations, can we consider this final compromise enough to conclude these talks?" Ayrlego, thanks. Another OOC issue we may have to deal with. Are you going to want to use the Nova Malto name for the new settlement? I ask only because it may be a pain to have the automation folks (@Phred or @Captain Genaro) have to go back and change the existing licensing connections; I don't know. If you're not wedded to the name, it might be easier to leave it with the existing settlement on Isla de Victoria. FYI.
  15. Guilder leaned over to Mesabi. "What, you don't like the ringing of the church bells?!" Guilder asked through a grin. "Sure, 150. Don't spend it all in one place."
  16. Guilder looked askance at Captain Mesabi, then return his attention to Montoya. "Ah, I did indeed misunderstand somewhat," replied Guilder. "I thought we were speaking of the refugees choosing to remain here." Guilder smiled a small smile, thinking to himself about the limits of Corlander humanitarian concerns. "I would have thought Corrington quite capable of taking care of refugees on its own territory on its own. However, if you need assistance, we will help. What number of properties do you seek from us for the settlement in Corlander territory, and I take it you would want ownership transferred to the settlement?" Before Montoya could answer, Guilder addressed the hung-over Mesabi. "I'd appraise the worth of the work restoring the fort at approximately 100 doubloons," said Guilder. "And despite Consul Montoya's offer that Eslandola could take ownership of any properties built here, we would still allow the WTC to maintain a warehouse or similar trade company properties here of a civilian nature. What say you?"
  17. "Eslandola certainly pledges to build up Nova Malto. We have no disagreement there." Guilder turned and reached behind him to retrieve something, then turned again to Montoya. "This is Captain Lorenzini's sword," said Guilder, holding out the elegant sword in his palms. "The imposter sent this to Lord Damaximus in an effort to maintain his ruse, and Damaximus made sure it got to us here as quickly as possible. I am certain that the captain would wish to have such a beautiful weapon back. Would you please see it returned to him, with our regards?" "As for Captain Mesabi, we would be amenable to paying for construction costs of the fort. If you could see to getting Captain Mesabi here, we would be happy to finalize the details and conclude these talks. I'm happy that we have been able to come to a peaceful resolution."
  18. "Your offer to Lorenzini is certainly a humanitarian thing to do, and we will not stand in the way of anyone who wants to leave," said Guilder. "As for those who remain, we pledge to rebuild Nova Malto and insure their safety." Guilder conferred with Monezterrell and Bowditch briefly. They appeared to be simply confirming something they had already discussed. "And we recognize that you have made an investment in the rebuilding of the settlement. We want to assure you that all are free to build and own civilian property in Nova Malto, and so any Corlanders who have built properties in Nova Malto may retain them and continue to benefit from their revenue. Eslandola will of course assume control of the fort and take on the responsibility of manning it and the expense of its upkeep." Guilder paused briefly, then continued. "Moving beyond financial considerations ... we are dismayed regarding the assault on Captain Lorenzini, and of course the attack on the WTC ship. We understand that Oleon has the man who assaulted Lorenzini in custody, is this correct? If not, we will do whatever we can to bring him to justice. And we will pledge to help find the saboteur of the WTC ship." "I hope these items address your concerns. Have we anticipated your concerns adequately, or is there something else?"
  19. Jacob, thanks for clarifying. I think the squatter rules are still fuzzy to some of us, but this makes sense to me.
  20. The skull in the floor tiling is the perfect touch! I also like the detail of the hat rack, weapons stash, and dartboard by the door. Some interesting characters, too. My only complaint: it feels too clean!
  21. Nice build, with some colorful components (particularly the figs and the scrolls). I like the detail that the cafe is below street level, and it's nice to see the property owner and carpenter going through the details of needed repairs. Another fine addition to the story of Nova Malto and the aftermath of war.
  22. I forgot to comment on the MOC. I really like the tavern. The muskets on the wall are a great touch, and you have a good mix of pieces and different grays to make the walls. The hooded, hidden Commodore Lenoir is also nicely done. And I like the idea of the story, that Lenoir had to see for himself that Morgan had survived. Very cool.
  23. I was under the impression that each faction was getting to claim an island as a result of challenge V, it's just that ESL knew which island they were getting if they won. Isn't that why Corrington recently claimed an island? But now I can't seem to find that in the challenge results. Maybe I'm remembering a discussion about possible prizes before the challenge was begun, I don't know. @Garmadon would likely know best. But, that said, the story of the claiming and the subsequent builds are too good to deny. I can't think of something better for BoBS than Captain Morgan alive and running Tortuga.
  24. I should have mentioned the hook. I recognized it right off. Definitely one of the things that makes this build so good.
