Hello everyone! I've been working on a AC3 Traxx in 8w for the last couple of months and am nearing completion, which means I will need to add pantographs soon. I've attempted a few pantographs before, but none with an "A" shaped arm on the top that looked thin enough. I've seen some people use the minifig hand and some tube that looks like the 3mm plastic tubing and the pneumatic tubing, but seems to be neither of the two. I was hoping to use this part on top, but other than that I have no plans. So I really could use some advice for designing pantographs. Any idea is welcome! Here's what the actual train looks like for reference: http://www.railcolor.net/images/basic/bomb_35055_55.jpg Thanks, Beck

This is a true masterpiece! I love a seemingly mundane building can seem so detailed. I also appreciate that you have spent as much work on the rear of the structure as you have on the front. Fantastic build!

I used the recommended 8127 brass tube and had absolutely no problems. Yes the wheels pop off once and a while, but when placed on rails, there are no such problems as the rail keeps the wheel from falling off the axle. To attach the brass tubes, I used two of these part on either side. Since the lamp holder part have some rotational play in its mounting, I rotated them inwards a bit decrease the chances of the brass tube sliding out. You can also check out the LDD file I included in my bricksafe folder. Yes, lubricant would have decreased the friction inside the brass tube. Just out of curiosity, what specific brand of lubricant would you use?

Hello Everyone, After finishing my new bogie using brass tubing with this and this, I decided to test the friction of three axle types. The first bogie used technic axles with RC train wheels. The second was the standard lego bogie in the kits (I used the bogie from the horizon express). The last was a custom bogie that I describe above. More information can be found on the l-gauge website here. I used 26 sections of straight track and elevated one end by about 6 inches. I released each bogie from the raised end of the track. The technic bogie traveled a measly 6 track sections. The standard TLG bogie traveled 19 section and the custom bogie traveled 23 sections. I realize that this wasn't the most, well, fastidious test, but should still highlight the fact that TLG could make better bogies . Photos *The gold shafts on my bogie represent the brass tubes* I hope this was helpful and somewhat informative! Thanks, Beck

Oshkosh 10x10 PLS
Beck replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Amazing model! This has to be your best model so far. I was surprised that 6 L motors were enough to move such a massive vehicle. What are the different ratios of the two gears? -

[WIP] MAN TGS 44.480 8X8
Beck replied to TheItalianBrick's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very well done rendition of the MAN. A snowplow, crane and a tipper? Bit much for one truck I should think.. I do agree with the others that the cabin is a tad too tall. I think the specific problem is the hight of the grille- (it's seems to be one stud too tall) As you may know, I have been toiling away at my own MAN 8x8 and am curious where you found the blueprints. I could not find blueprints for the front and back of the truck. If its not too much would you mind PMing me them? Also how did you connect the driveline of the first two axles? So far, I've used the regular UV joint and and a CV joint to connect the two, but do not have enough vertical travel. I'm not quite sure about your choice of drive motor; I think one L motor may be two weak. I believe you may have your widths incorrect or I might just be missing something. From your photos the back of the cabin is 18 studs wide, and the mudguards look 20 studs wide. I'm dying to see the final result.- 59 replies

I really like this MOC! Very clean design! I often see many technic builders forget to detail the hubcaps. I think yours could be improved, with just a few pieces! Nice work!

There is another option for the door handles if you are willing to compromise a small amount. You could use the hammer tool #55295. A quick google search revealed for me that the handles were a bit smaller IRL than on your model. Overall, your model is excellent! I am also curious how the carriages ran on the layout considering that you used the 2x2 turntable piece, which does not allow for any rocking. Also where did you purchase the brass tubes for the axles. I'm having trouble finding a place to buy them.

Very nice! I'm usually not one for 6 wide American style Fire trucks, but these look especially well done!

Lovely MOC! I'd love to see the underside. I have one problem with your MOCs... You REALLY need to add hubcaps to the wheels. I'd make them just that little bit more believable. You might also want to think about inverting the front wheels to give them more space, but in doing so you'd have to increase the size of the beams between them. Just a suggestion

The first image looked as if it was made in some type of professional CAD program. Having seen a few of these locos, I can vouch that it's completely spot on perfectly realistic. Can the model roll along the tracks? I'm quite surprised that it can support its emmense weight.

[WIP] Another Truck
Beck replied to Rishab N's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Promising start! This is just a speculation, but the reason why most dont put a gearbox on a non powered truck is because the focus of the truck is usually what it is carrying, not how it drives. Personally I would lengthen the truck in the middle (maybe by 7studs) because you will always want/need more space. It also seems as if the front wheels are too far inset. -
First of all really nice shed. I attempted one of these a few months ago and it was eh. I just wanted to warn you that it's probably going to be more than 220 USD. If you plan on ordering the engraved brick 1x2 bricks from bricklink, very few stores have more than 20 that are within the US.

42053 - Volvo EW160E
Beck replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Honestly I'm a bit disappointed that the Volvo was built at this scale, as there are few details that make it look like a real volvo EW160E. -
RC Maus Tank
Beck replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
What an amazing model! Of the few Lego Maus tanks built, this one by far looks the most realistic. I was suprised at how effortlessly it moved (in a straight line) despite the immense weight! I believe the Maus also had a short 75mm cannon to the left of the main 128mm. -
It's difficult to get technic models at this scale to look believable/realistic, but I think you've managed it quite well!

I love the use of light blue in the 1st place entry. It perfectly encapsulates all of the aspects of a "winter village building"

Stunning Layout. Great Trains. I especially like the "overpass bridges," very realistic.

WIP A big scale Truck.
Beck replied to Aleh's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I really like your work so far, but I'm not a fan of the front hubcaps. They might look good on a supercar, but not a truck. Any particular truck you've based it on? -
I have more WIPs than actual MOCs. If I stuck to just like 3 projects I might have a few more completed trains, but that's just how I am. Here are my Train WIPs: http://bricksafe.com..._mocs/train-wip

It was instantly recognizable as the TRAXX locomotive. Don't forget to add Pantographs. Come to think of it, the Lego pantograph part would actually be perfect for this scale.
