Bionicle Protector Alternate Builds
TheOneVeyronian replied to Rayskull's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Thanks! The head sculpt for the big one was actually made over 3 years ago. Believe it or not, the heads are made using paper, reinforced using aluminium mesh, then painted and finished with polyurethane varnish. The arrowhead is made with clay and finished a similar way. In fact, I might make a new topic covering those and other similar builds to avoid cluttering up the thread that is supposed to be about Protector builds, but I would have to do a lot of preparatory work beforehand for them to make any sense -
[Software] LDD2PovRay
TheOneVeyronian replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Sorry to be double-posting (though it was nearly 2 weeks ago), but I have another question, this time to do with POV-Ray 3.7 parsing via LDD2POV-Ray. Ever since I set it up on my new machine running Windows 8.1, the parsing in POV-Ray has been incredibly slow compared to my old Windows 7 machine (I've just started doing a >1200 piece model, and it took 10 and a half minutes just to finish parsing, old machine only needed about 2 minutes for a similar model). However the actual rendering speed is quite fast, slightly faster than my old machine even, so I'm not sure why the parsing is so slow. Anybody have any ideas on why it might be so slow or how to try and speed up parsing? I'm using Windows 8.1, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD, AMD Quad-core processor (and it has a better general performance than my old machine) if that helps. Any insight would be appreciated! -

Just putting it out there, I think the brain piece is actually one of these with some brain printing on. The shape and size seem to match... -
Star Wars Constraction 2015 Discussion
TheOneVeyronian replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Oh yeah, I momentarily forgot the street sign pieces existed, now I can see Vader's control panel (I think that's what it's referred to?) being attached by way of some elaborate hiddden shaft system. Makes much more sense than a tile! Urgh - I really dislike people who hate like this, but I suppose haters gotta hate somehow. The comment about how constraction "infected the Exo-Suit legs" is borderline ridiculous... reminds me of exactly how much people on Brickset can hate on constraction and I feel that such hate is perhaps slightly unnecessary... I'm kinda ashamed I am one of the voluntary staff members of that site when I see "trolling" comments like that, given my love of the system Oh darn it, that's going to haunt me every time I see the Luke figure now that's been said. The resemblance is remarkably similar -

Well, I don't tend to use printed pieces in MOC's (exception being set modifications). I didn't say that I didn't like them (I think they're very fitting for Darth Vader and the pattern is very nice). That was purely looking at things from an MOC'ers perspective though. I'm very curious as to how that 2x2 tile is attached on Darth Vader though (and for that matter, the belt, but I think the latter is a combination of Technic and printing). -

Well, I stand corrected on the printing, there's a lot more of it than the NYTF pics showed. But really - they printed the 6M shells on Vader!? Now they're kinda next to useless unless I take a magic eraser to them Well at least Luke has unprinted ones. It'll be fun for me to buy these and then my Tahu and Vader can have a lightsaber duel or something And by the sounds of it, it's going to be another while until we see the other four according to a Brickset article on them. I really wanted to see Grievous first, but oh well. -

Hate to burst your bubble, but it definitely looks all printed to me. The chestplate is almost certainly printed (it's always been printed due to it's odd shape that is unsuitable for stickers), can't see any parts with any form of decal in unless there's something I'm missing here. -
I know. Look at Basher, he's posed like he's just been struck by an invisible hammer. Same could be said with Grinder Seriously, I could do a better job at posing those in about 5 seconds And the more I lok at them, the more those unarmoured upper legs are irking me. I wonder how they'll look when upper and lower limbs are swapped around. And also, all that trans-orange will have to go (except on Grinder as that's his secondary colour). It looks pretty awful to me now I have had a much better look at them.

XT4 never had 8M shells, those are 6M shells. FWIW, 8M shells were last seen just last year in a Legends of Chima set, in Flame Yellowish Orange, so it's not impossible for Darth Vader to have some 8M shells where we can't see them. I'd find that absolutely fantastic if Darth Vader had them in black... By the way, is it only Luke and Vader on show here? I'm now itching to see the rest... -
Jurassic World 2015 Rumors & Discussion
TheOneVeyronian replied to adotnamedstud's topic in LEGO Licensed
These actually look fantastic to me, and I'm so glad the Dilophosaurus uses new moulds. So where does the leaked Coelophysis come from? Though I must say, in terms of real-world size (I'm a palaeontologist with a passion for dinosaurs so I'm probably overthinking this), I think the Dilophosaurus is a little on the large side (I think the Coelophysis mould was the perfect size for it as it too large for a Coelophysis), but if the size is accurate to the film, I'm all for it. Although it's not actually a real dinosaur, I really like the Indominus Rex also. Oh, what the hey, I love them all. TLG take my money now!- 1,412 replies

I am actually pleasantly surprised by these. They're cohesive and even Luke Skywalker doesn't look nearly as bad as what I had feared (though it's still not fantastic but doesn't look as bad as the Superheroes did). I am so glad to see the return of the 6M shell and the rounded shoulder armour, the Breakout cuffs in FLAT SILVER, the 7M B bone (last seen on XT4), and those new armour pieces on the lower legs as well as the lightsaber are absolutely badass. Glad to see Darth Vader also has a new cape, so no doubt I'll have to get two. These are going to occupy an otherwise rather empty autumn/winter for me. Hooray! -
Bionicle Protector Alternate Builds
TheOneVeyronian replied to Rayskull's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Oh, I use BL all the time, the problem arises from not having enough money left over for BL. That and I've spent all this month's BL fund on another MOC And sure, I'll show you my sigfig. The big one is my sigfig, the Protector size one based on your build is the baby version. Be aware: the big one especially has quite a lot of custom sculpted parts as it's impossible to replicate the self-made character with purist techniques: And obviously a pic of just the one actually relevant to this thread. The head is custom but everything else is purist: Sorry about the clutter. EDIT: Typo. My new computer seems to have a habit of adding random keystrokes. -
Well, these are looking much better, and hooray I was right about trans-neon orange Skull Spider legs on Slicer! Also, I'm willing to bet that Scorpio's mask appears on eBay sooner or later But kidding aside, I don't think it actually looks that bad without it! Also, I remember that somebody reported a tan coloured set which turned out to be incorrect. I still dream of tan to be honest, but if anything, those might be in the Star Wars constraction sets. One can hope I guess.

Jurassic World 2015 Rumors & Discussion
TheOneVeyronian replied to adotnamedstud's topic in LEGO Licensed
I think I heard the Dilophosaurus is a variant of the Coelophysis mould with the signature crests added. It was mentioned in Brickset's London Toy Fair report, and I trust it since the guy who wrote up that part of the report is an extremely good friend of mine (and he's always honest about what he sees). I just hope he didn't mis-see it as then if it does turn out to the same old Coelophysis mould, I'll be sorely disappointed. Also, completely agreed that the raptors are far too big. But then I also thought the Dino 2012 raptors were also far too large unless they were Megaraptors, so I just imagined they were Megaraptors. I don't think they're Megaraptors in this case though! I'm still waiting for the appropriately scaled Velociraptor mould, which could even have come with the Dino Tracker CMF... come on TLG!- 1,412 replies

Yeah, his shoulder blades aren't on there for some reason. The same problem exists for Fluminox's armour, which is annoying since I like having extras of all the armour pieces in my collection. As for it not appearing in your cart, this is a very annoying glitch that has existed since the BnP/S@H integration last year. Immediately after it fails, you should go back and do the order again, and it should add to cart second time round. I sent TLG an email about it yesterday so they should at least be aware of it. Anyway, I decided I wanted to get myself Eyezor from BnP, however his legs weren't in stock! So I just ordered his head and torso as I already have a spare mohawk and I'll have to use plain black legs for now. Also, it's NYTF today, so we should start seeing some potentially better pictures of the new sets! Curious to see if we can get some more up-close pictures of those Slimer-type pieces as well as some pictures of the sets that appeared in the video (internet allowance doesn't allow me to watch many videos unfortunately )

Jurassic World 2015 Rumors & Discussion
TheOneVeyronian replied to adotnamedstud's topic in LEGO Licensed
Well, what an unexpected surprise - I'll admit I'm not really blown away by the truck (though it appears to be pretty accurate to the source material except for those wheels, so that's a plus I guess), but I do like the minifigs and especially the raptors (was pleasantly surprised to see they have accessories and will undoubtedly have to buy extras of the raptor "hat" to kit out all my other raptors). Nonetheless, it will be a must purchase for me, even if I have to wait for a sale on it first. I very nearly missed out on a complete collection of Dino 2012 dinosaurs (though I do have them all), don't want it to happen again with Jurassic World... I better start saving, 2015's being very hard on my poor old wallet- 1,412 replies

Bionicle Protector Alternate Builds
TheOneVeyronian replied to Rayskull's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I know I'm really late to the party, but I have got to say that all the Protectors and the alternate builds really are brilliant. In fact, a while ago it gave me the inspiration to create a baby version of my sigfig (which I'll show if people really want to see it), so I must give credit to Rayskull for the wonderful little build I just wish I had enough little Technic pieces to make all my Protectors look even anything like these ones -
Skull Chiller, King of the Skull Army by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Skull Chiller, King of the Skull Army by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Skull Chiller, King of the Skull Army by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Skull Chiller, King of the Skull Army by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr I really wanted to do my own Skull Villain (my skeleton MOC doesn't really count) complete with gearbox, so I decided to create Skull Chiller, the ultimate Skull Warrior, featuring 4 arms (which are all geared up to a gearbox so they all move when gearbox is used) and a general "armoured ice skeleton" theme. It's not really supposed to be zombified, but rather be an elegant but deadly undead warrior Be sure to click on the photos to view the large version (16 megapixels) And, in case anybody asks, that flat silver chest is a wiped Lewa Master of Jungle chest (I bought a spare one for the purpose, so don't worry I didn't mutilate my Lewa!). Positive and constructive comments are more than welcome, and I can probably provide a dissection of Skull Chiller should anybody ask for it. It's a little fragile though wth the rib bones which is why one of them appears to be missing in the last photo (it's there though)

I collect the moulded animals, however the goat is just one which I have just missed the boat on and I kick myself for not buying it back in 2013 when they were just £4 a pop. My excuse was that they were too expensive at the time. But now I wished I had bought even one given current prices. But since the mould was only used for one set, I think we could see the mould appear again in future. It's not impossible, the minifig-eating shark mould was last used in 2009 and yet I think it's coming back in Pirates and definitely coming back in Ultra Agents, and the goat mould is definitely younger than that. Even the Dino 2012 moulds are being reused for Jurassic World. Maybe City will revisit the Farm theme possibly (or we get a brand new Farm theme) and we'll see it appear again there if anything. Other one-time moulds like the camel and ostrich (as somebody mentioned) probably won't come back given that they probably can't be used in as many settings as the goat can potentially be used in (and were created for a licensed theme).

Sorry, I don't know why I thought it was Saturday today, yet I managed to get the EST time right. That happens a fair bit with me! Blame lack of routine and medication messing with my head Needless to say, looking forward to seeing what comes out of it. I think I should retire back to my bricks until I can get my days right

I got to say, I love this revamp of Vezon, it's very well done. I really like the poseable hand solution you come up with. I'd also be very interested to know how the head is built, I've always been in awe of those who could cram in those teeth into heads like that, and I can't figure out for my life how it's done!

What irks me about that image of Flying Tahu (which is also seen on the promo poster in the back of the instruction manuals, is it not?) is the fact that one of his hands is the HF fist piece and the other is CGI and looks almost nothing like the fist piece if it were "un-fisted"... Anyway, the NYTF has just started, I expect that images won't take long to arrive now. More images is always a good thing

Bought 76025 Green Lantern vs Sinestro today when I noticed it was marked a bit under RRP in my local Asda. Bought since it was a set I had my eye on for the parts more than anything.

Aside from LEGO, I enjoy geology (I have a degree in it even) and I collect rock, mineral and fossil specimens. For the less "collective" type hobbies, I am also very into sketch and computer drawing, mostly related to either fantasy or self-invented biomechanical beings based around cars, and am absolutely addicted to playing Grumpy Sparrows. I also enjoy a bit of travelling and visiting museums, especially if related somewhat to cars or geology, I used to also collect diecast model cars (but when I got into LEGO, I had no more money or space from them, plus where I normally purchased them shut down), and when I was younger, it was collecting and playing trading cards, including Pokemon, Chaotic and Dinosaur King (stopped those since I got into the former too late, and the latter two just disappeared). Yes, you could say I have far too many hobbies However, having recently became ill, I've been unable to do any of them, except a little forum browsing

I'm normally always more into the sets than the minifigures when it comes to Ninjago, and any dragons are always first priority for me (though I have got to say, the Serpentine are by far my favourite figures so I was pleased to see their return in this wave). That is mainly why the Summer wave is so attractive to me as practically every standard set seems to have a dragon in it. It's rare I buy Ninjago solely for it's minifigs. You might be shocked to hear that I'm not extremely interested in the Ninja but rather more interested in the villains as far as Ninjago minifigs are concerned! That said, can anybody pass any recommendations for 70750 Ninja DB X? I'm tempted to pick it up at some point and I especially need White Pythor and Kapau to complete my Anacondrai collection, but I don't have a lot of budget and I want to save what I do have for the Summer sets, but I might pick up the DB X if it's a fun build (and works on display) that makes it worth the £60 price tag. May I be better off just BL'ing Kapau and White Pythor, or waiting for a decent discount on it? (I would have gone Bricks and Pieces, but most of White Pythor is unavailable and has been from day one so didn't bother with Kapau either).
