Bit late to the party, but based on what I own or have owned of 2014's range: Best set: Tied between Exo-Suit and Mini Cooper. I really enjoyed building both and both have prominent spaces on my shelves. Worst set: Hard to say, but in the end I'd pick Lavertus' Twin Blade. I love Chima as a theme and the minifigs are quite good, but the vehicle is just so ugly, thin and gappy it actually prompted me to write my first negative review on S@H about it. Though honourable mention goes to Spider-not-a-Trike vs Electro, which probably would have got it if only I had owned it! Best theme: Mixels. Closely followed by Hero Factory, I actually liked it's fresh approach with the mechs and beasts. Worst theme: Hard to say, but based on themes I've bought a set from, I'll say Minecraft. It's just overpriced for what it is. Best Minifigure: Tied between General Grievous (white version) and Sir Fangar. Worst Minifigure: Luke Skywalker, Tatooine. Good example of how too much unnecessary detail can ruin an otherwise good figure. Closely followed by Minecraft minifigs. I'll add something to this: by far the best moulded creature of the year for me (as they're a big part of my collection) - Smaug. Big, detailed, imposing and very poseable. Most excited for in 2015: Speed Champions, Jurassic World and Bionicle.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind seeing a remould of the 2.0 HF foot, if only they can go and fill in that rather odd looking gap above the Technic pin holes. I much prefer the shaping of some of the original Bionicle feet if I'm honest, and indeed the 2.0 foot has probably past it's sell by date considering that CCBS has moved along while the feet (and hands perhaps even more so - I want a hand with moveable fingers that can also hold weapons without them sliding out) kinda lag behind. The beast feet are a sign that CCBS feet are evolving, but really it only works for more bestial and animal-based builds. and well, Stormer XL's feet are kind of like clown shoes, too big for most humanoid builds I personally don't dislike the Piraka talon feet, but do agree that they're getting a bit boring in just black all the time. I'd like it if they reintroduced the marbling aspect that the Piraka (and my all time favourite Bionicle, Barraki Takadox ) had, to distinguish the talons from the rest of the feet. Heck, I'd be glad to see a black Piraka talon foot with white talons or something similar any day of the week.

I got my order with Gali, Kopaka and PoS today, and I was absolutely overjoyed to receive it after some earlier shambles at Argos. I was less than impressed with the condition they were in when I opened the box though. Kopaka and PoS both had huge tears in them (Gali's box also had a tear but it was nowhere near as big), and it didn't look like damage from shipping either. I'm opening them anyway, but I do prefer to receive boxes with minimal damage especially if I'm keeping them (as I was planning to here). I don't think I'll be ordering any more Bionicles through S@H though.

So some more info for those in the UK: I happened to go into a Smyths and another TRU today, and neither had any Bionicles out. So I asked them when they were going to be put out, and they both said they were going to be put out 31st January! Is this going to be a new thing where LEGO direct put out sets a month ahead of normal retailers or something? So it looks like that if you're in the UK, it's direct from LEGO via S@H or Brand Stores or nothing this month. Shame, I really wanted another Bionicle to tide me over until my S@H order arrived (their shipping is quite slow at the moment)

I have a question for those in the UK: has anybody been able to find the Bionicle sets in physical stores yet? Like TRU, Smyths, The Entertainer etc.? (except LEGO stores, I know they have them there). Since New Year's Day I've checked out a large TRU and a few supermarkets, but I've found nothing. Also, shame about not getting a dark blue set, I could have done with getting some 5M, 3M and torso shells in that colour for my self-MOC (after finding out that the Skull Spiders make absolutely excellent shoulder armour ). I guess Mata Blue will have to stay on it another year But Dark Tan does get me excited, not least because it will be another way to get those shells introduced with CHI Vardy! I sincerely hope it is Dark Tan and not regular Tan as I'd like to see the roster of Dark Tan shells increased to make the ones already available more useful... though Tan would be another new colour to add to the CCBS palette.

Yeah, that was the first thing I tried and I didn't like the resulting look, so I ended up moving the gearbox instead. Just tried it, and yes the friction extender indeed works with the new heads. I still think that it makes Lewa's head stick up too much though (but not half as bad as using a 3M ball joint), so I think I'll stick with my current setup. Though I will say it is the brain stalk that is the problem rather than the actual position of the head.

Yeah, it's one of those sets where it's basically one thing or the other, impossible to have both. I like his raised shoulders too but disliked the amount of head articulation. I'm still trying to brainstorm solutions that result in high shoulders and good head movement (asides from removing the brain stalk) without making Lewa look ridiculous, but so far, nothing.

I just opened my Vultrix's Sky Scavenger set today, and I noticed something. The Frax in this set is NOT the same as previous Frax minifigs from polybags, minifig sets and books, as it has Foltrax's dark red legs in 70228 as opposed to the legs in orange (as they are on all previous incarnations of Frax). Just a note for those thinking of getting the set for Frax, but it definitely surprised me.

If anybody wants to see what Lewa looks like with a lowered gearbox (and how to construct it), I did these quick photos to show it: Lewa Master of Jungle Shoulder Modification by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Lewa Master of Jungle Shoulder Modification (construction close-up) by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr It does mean Lewa loses some of his simian aesthetic, but it does give his head much more room to move and he can pull off a flying pose much better. Now if I can just find a way to bring his arms back up to neck joint level without raising the gearbox...

[MOD] 70790 Lord of Skull Spiders
TheOneVeyronian replied to TheOneVeyronian's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Lord of Skull Spiders MOD by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Finally, here's the actual Lord of Skull Spiders set with modifications. The only thing that's really changed since the trans-light blue edition is the use of Hordika necks instead of Glatorian necks, which I think is actually an improvement as it means the legs are not so far out of the body and result in a much better grabbing action. I've also used a couple of the new Technic spacers in various parts of the build to keep things in place.- 25 replies

I built the Bionicles I had bought the other day, and honestly, I've fallen in love all of them, so much so that I had to then go and order Kopaka, Gali and PoS. Rather ironically, the two I said I was going to buy first, Tahu and Pohatu, are now my last Toa left to buy. I haven't felt this way about a LEGO theme in years if I'm honest. To try and solve Lewa's lack of neck articulation, I lowered his gearbox by one module (which is actually quite difficult to do while maintaining his aesthetic!). I'll try to upload some pictures showing my Lewa's new look a bit later if anybody's interested. I'm probably also going to swap out Onua's gold for silver as soon as I can get myself some extra silver piston add-ons (which might be a while, the service I usually use to purchase extra CCBS parts is down until February ).

Here you go: Sure, here's a closer look. Looks like they're wearing a variety of suits, but most look like the ZX versions to me: Lastly, now having built the Titanium Dragon, I have some thoughts on it. Overall, it's a decent model, definitely better than some of the other dragons in the Ninjago line. But there's one part of it I can't stand, and it's the back legs. Each one has two massive gaps where they could have put bricks in it, and it makes the back legs look very unfinished. My other more minor niggle would probably be the front legs, they're a bit, well, blocky (but the wing piece on it does correct this to some extent). The face is wider than the set pictures on the box would suggest also. But otherwise, it's a good build with some interesting techniques and is very poseable despite the fact that each leg only has two joints. Definitely one to pick up if you're not too bothered by the unfinished looking back legs

Aanchir is correct, the torso, hips and legs on Zane are indeed medium stone grey - the only reason they might show as being silver in my pictures is the atrocious lighting since I took them on a dark evening with the flash on. Though I couldn't see why they couldn't make Zane all Flat Silver, but that may have just been that the printing shows up better on grey than it does on silver. But thinking about it, the back of the box shows Zane (with Clouse) and he's got a chrome effect. It makes me wish we had an actual chromed Zane because that would have been beyond awesome I still haven't built the dragon itself yet, but I'll probably build it today. After all, it's what I actually bought the set for since I'm absolutely nuts about LEGO dragons

Over the last week or two I have bought: 21301 Birds 70748 Titanium Dragon 70228 Vultrix's Sky Scavenger 70784 Lewa Master of Jungle 70790 Lord of Skull Spiders 70789 Onua Master of Earth 70781 Protector of Earth 70220 Strainor's Saber Cycle 70221 Flinx's Ultimate Phoenix 70222 Tormak's Shadow Blazer 70223 Icebite's Claw Driller 70224 Tiger's Mobile Command All the Chima battle packs And a 70163 Toxikita's Toxic Meltdown which I found half price at Tesco And then I realised that my wallet is not an endless money pit... oh well, time to build what I have amassed then

Sorry, I meant to say "summer wave related there that we haven't already seen". My mistake

Lego Ultra Agents 2015
TheOneVeyronian replied to TPLSTER21's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
For those of you in the UK, they had the Ultra Agents sets out for sale in the London Westfield LEGO Store (much to my surprise as I wasn't expecting to see them). I unfortunately couldn't buy any and I forgot to take a picture of the display, but they are there so it might be worth checking out your local store. The set with AntiMatter in was £59.99 I believe. -
Actually, I found 2 minutes to do a quick photo of them, so here you go: Here you go: Nope, only an advert for Shadow of Ronin and an advert for the Ninjago website. Nothing summer wave related there unfortunately.
-
For what it's worth, I found pretty much the whole range of Bionicle at the London Westfield LEGO Store today, so those in the UK: if you have a Brand Store near you, I'd check it out! Protectors £9.99, Small Toa/LOSS £12.99 and Large Toa £14.99. I picked up Lewa, LOSS, Onua and PoE for now, but I would have picked up the entire range if it weren't for the fact I won some in the BFTGM contest and the fact that I've spent far too much on LEGO this week The shelf picture I posted in the Ninjago topic confirms this sighting, Bionicle is to the right

Success! The entire Ninjago lineup was out at the London Westfield LEGO store so I grabbed the Titanium Dragon (not in the above picture, but it was underneath the cabinet display with the Ninjago sets that you can see). I would have bought more but I've already spent far too much this week. Apologies for the sub-par picture but I only had my old phone on me plus it was very crowded. There's more below the picture, and I'm sure they had every 2015 Ninjago set. UK prices are pretty much the same ones I quoted from Amazon a while ago. Sure, I can do that when I crack it open, which will probably be tomorrow.
-
Well, I'm going back to the same LEGO Store I went to on Monday later today (got fed up of waiting for S@H - need I explain?) and I'll report back on whether I see anything Ninjago there. If there is (there should be as the manager did confirm they'd be put out today), I'm definitely buying the Titanium Dragon at least
-
Judging by the fact that most themes have their rumoured Summer 2015 set lists already and Chima isn't one of them, I would assume so. For now at least anyway. I'd be sad to see the theme go, but at the same time it would allow me to put focus into other themes. Whatever did happen to those rumoured Speedorz sets though? Since they don't appear to be coming any time soon, I think LEGO definitely pulled the plug on them. It'd be nice to have official confirmation of their cancellation though. Especially since everybody's Speedorz card collection will now have a massive, unfillable gap in it
-
Ah, that makes sense. Thanks! Now that makes me wonder if we'll get cured versions of the other tribe leaders (at least), but I guess it's extremely unlikely at the moment as Chima is coming to an end.
-
Well I wasn't expecting this! Looks like this might be another Target exclusive minifig set? Looks to be very similar packaging so I wouldn't be surprised. So what does this figure represent: Fangar before he was trapped in the ice, or a Fangar transformed back to his normal pre-ice trapped state? (does the latter happen in the story? The show isn't aired in my country) Sorry if the answer seems obvious by the way, but I wanted to be sure. The figure looks like it's suitable to represent either. The only problem now is that I want cured/pre-ice trapped versions of all the characters in the Ice Hunter tribes Thanks for the info, just unfortunate I live nowhere near Manchester. I can wait for the 1st January though And on a slightly related question: Are sets 70225-7 actually a summer wave of Chima sets, or are they part of this current wave but pushed back to Spring for whatever reason? I asked some LEGO store employees about them and they didn't seem to know anything about them, so I was wondering if anyone else did know.
-
For those of you in the UK, the Bionicle sets will definitely be out on the 1st January, in case anybody was worried that the UK would follow parts of mainland Europe and have a February release. Confirmed to me by a store manager at the London Westfield LEGO Store Unfortunately no sightings anywhere else, not even my local TRU which normally always breaks street dates on almost everything I have never looked so forward to the end of New Year's Eve if I'm honest...

I've got to say, it is a rather peculiar choice though to release this wave of Ninjago in (presumably) only the UK at first, and one I actually wasn't aware of before today since I don't think Ninjago images appeared on LEGO's server when pictures for other themes destined for a January release in at least one region did appear. But yeah, the store calendar pretty much confirms a January release for the UK. What I do know is that it's now given me a dilemma over what to buy first from S@H on New Year's Day
