Jurassic World 2015 Rumors & Discussion
TheOneVeyronian replied to adotnamedstud's topic in LEGO Licensed
I know! I knew they could take liberties with the colourings on the dinosaurs in the 2012 line (who knows, T-Rex may have been orange in real life), but when it's based on existing material where we already know the colour of the dino to be brown, there was really no excuse. Even a Medium Dark Flesh / Reddish Brown coloured one would have been better here (since Medium Dark Flesh is a relatively toned-down brownish colour which I think works well for the T-Rex's underside here, much more so than the Dark Orange of the 2012 counterpart). But I suppose this could be the last time for a while that we get dinosaurs like this, so I'm not really complaining. I'm fortunate enough to have obtained all the 2012 dinosaurs just before their prices went silly, but I would never pass up a second opportunity (i.e. this one) to get some more to put on my desk I'm still wondering where that Coelophysis has got to though... I can't see why it couldn't potentially be included in a polybag to be honest. I can't see it appearing in Raptor Rampage, and there's no D2C around the corner for this theme. It can't be a "test run" either - why would they mould a Coelophysis in a new colour and why would it surface along with the other leaked Summer set moulds (the other JW dinos) if they had no intention of ever putting it in a set? Everything else from that leak has been proved to be coming in a set, except this little dinosaur. It's quite puzzling- 1,412 replies

Jurassic World 2015 Rumors & Discussion
TheOneVeyronian replied to adotnamedstud's topic in LEGO Licensed
While I absolutely see where you are coming from (I would have preferred a T-Rex with the new colour combinations seen in the teaser too) I just want to point out that the T-Rex we're getting is actually quite different from that of the orange 2012 T-Rex. The orange 2012 T-Rex was Dark Orange with a Dark Red upper and Dark Brown patternings. The one in the T-Rex tracker appears to be Medium Dark Flesh with a Dark Orange upper and Dark Brown patternings (which are distinctly different). Sorry, I had to jump in there because that statement sounded like the 2012 and 2015 version of the T-Rex were exactly the same when they are not. I do agree that they are fairly similar though Oh, and while I'd be absolutely thrilled with a UCS Jurassic World set, I'm kind of hoping they don't make one - my wallet can't take the pounding anymore with what's currently about!- 1,412 replies

Bought most of the Speed Champions line (aside from the McLaren (already had it) and the Ferrari truck (too pricey)) as well as a couple of keychains yesterday.

I second this. I am completely sick of 5M B bones in dark bluish grey in particular. Last time I did an MOC bin count on my personal collection, I think for every 5 of all the other bones in all other colours that I have loose, I had 1 5M B Bone in dark bluish grey. I have 100 5M B Bones in dark bluish grey (loose), just to put that into context, and I have so many loose ones probably because I keep swapping them for black in the sets, and then they don't get used in MOC's as dark bluish grey rarely fits the aesthetic I go for. I don't mind trans shells or gunmetal/silver/gold at all, while I do think it is sometimes overused, from an MOC'ing standpoint I can never have enough (my last MOC completely drained my supply of gunmetal shells for instance) as they tend to be my primary colours. But I do prefer trans-bones to trans-shells though, as they seem to be the closest we're going to get to getting actual coloured bones again nowadays.

Simpsons 2015 Rumors and Discussion
TheOneVeyronian replied to Sir Brickalot's topic in LEGO Licensed
Only a few days ago, I was considering actually getting rid of all my Simpsons CMF's and the house, which I own. But then the Series 2 CMF and the Kwik-e-Mart come along and have instantly made me do a U-turn on that decision, because, for the most part, they look absolutely fantastic. I love all the little Easter eggs they included with it. This year, the year I resolved to stop buying as much, is starting to look extremely expensive for me If there's any saving grace, I think I can skip the Simpsons family variants, especially the "Sunday best" ones as they don't really excite me very much (instead buying the family pets and other moulded accessories off BL becuase I do want those). But the rest I do want, even though I wish Comic Book Guy actually had a fat belly (he looks weird without it) and that Patty or Selma (which one had the iguana? I can never remember ) came with Jub Jub.- 1,195 replies

Lego Ultra Agents 2015
TheOneVeyronian replied to TPLSTER21's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
So it's 33x33 studs (I was fairly close then!). The sparse amount of pieces really kinda stems from the shark they used which must have eaten up a lot of the parts budget, especially since it's unique to the set (in that specific livery anyway). Plus, many of the parts in the model are big, so while it's sparse, it's still a large model and it's size compliments the price point quite well compared to others in the same price range (£50 in the UK I think? I can't remember the US price). But then again, I do take several factors into account, including overall size, aside from price per piece when determining how much I think a set is worth. Price per piece is only the first indicator for me But then again, in my book, nothing can really be much worse than this when it comes to just price-per-piece and overall size... -
How do you control your spending & what do you collect
TheOneVeyronian replied to Seeky's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I couldn't agree more with that And this is pretty much the mantra that I now adopt when it comes to buying. I've had to drastically cut back on LEGO buying recently but, at the same time, I want to keep on top of my collection (which involves being a completist in CCBS-based sets, Chima minifigs, Ninjago villains, dragons and moulded animals) and not let anything slip through (so I buy at first possible opportunity a lot). I often find myself scrutinising potential purchases to decide whether it's better to buy the set or just BL some of the figures I want from it, because sometimes I come across a set I really want just for the minifigs (like bigfigs from Super Heroes sets), and well, sometimes it's less hassle (and cheaper) to just buy the figs. I also run a BL store (though it's been shut for most of the year so far...) which generates more income to buy new sets as well as to help deal with another problem I have: lack of space. If I get bored with a set, I break it up and part it out into my BL store to sell the parts from it. Same with many of those superfluous small builds that come with loads of the sets I collect, they get broken up and put up for sale. So far it's worked to an extent, even on a fairly small budget like mine. The only problem is that it's not only LEGO clamouring at me for my money -

Judging by the relative size of the shark (the same mould as this one, the larger minifig-eating cousin of the traditional shark), which I own and have measured as being about 13cm long, I hazard a guess that the height of the hideout is about 25-30cm. The top platform is 16x16 studs. The model at the base occupies an area of approximately 28x28 studs. Possibly 30x30 or 32x32, but I can't really see the structures on the other two legs so can't say for definite what the bottom width is. So, while not massive, it's a fairly decent size for the piece count it appears. Having said that, and given it's dimensions, I'd actually say the set would benefit from being mounted on a blue baseplate, for the real "middle of the ocean" feeling. If only LEGO hadn't recently discontinued the 32x32 one they did... -
That reminds me - I had over 20 Brain Attack Brains at some point also (if I forgot them first time round, then I guess that makes them really unmemorable ). I know I had at least 2 of each colour. I can only recall where 9 of them are right now though, the rest seem to have got lost Off topic, but maybe we need a "show your Action Figures armies" topic...

In terms of Bionicle, hardly ever, unless buying multiple sets for Skull Spiders counts. I have also got 2 LOSS (one built from parts in my collection). The only Gen1 Bionicle I ever bought several multiples of was Takadox (I ended up with 6 or even 7, but he was my favourite character and I ended up with a whole "family" of him. Don't ask me why ). I did hear of someone who once bought 20 Skrall for the sake of an army though. I did army build with HF quite a bit more often though, at a time where it wasn't uncommon for me to buy several multiples of those sets, even named characters. I even bought 5 Black Phantoms throughout 2012 (again, don't ask me why). Nowadays, I hardly ever army build unless it's fairly cheap to amass, such as the Skull Spiders.

Oops, I really can't count today! I haven't got 25 (yet). I've actually got 19 so far. 6 of each colour (I am quite OCD about how I must have the same number of each colour, I had the same attitude towards HF jumpers and cocoons), plus added legs to the gold Skull Spider mask to create a sort of "ultimate" Skull Spider. I amassed them (beyond the 12 you'd get by having all the Toa and Protectors) by buying doubles of the sets and buying them from Bricks and Pieces (they're about £1.50 each for the mask and 4 legs). I am now curious as to whether anybody has amassed really big Skull Spider armies to make mine look pathetic in comparison... EDIT: I just thought - I still have my BFTGM sets sealed, if I count the Skull Spiders sealed within those, then yeah I do have 25

I find the Skull Spider legs are excellent when it comes to making fingers on large creations. For example, I used some in this mecha of mine. Don't know why, but I think the shape is just right for a finger with a large claw. Alternatively, a large quantity of them combined with certain shells that can accept clip attachments could make an excellent and rather sinister looking spiky back or armoured "throw" (or something like that). In fact, that's given me an idea, but I'm not sure if I can bring myself to dismember 25 Skull Spiders to try it yet (that's how many I've amassed) Also reminds me, I need to get some more shelves up so I actually have a space to display my Toa/Protectors/Skull Villains, as my CCBS models shelf is completely full...

Lego Ultra Agents 2015
TheOneVeyronian replied to TPLSTER21's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I'm not so sure that would be the case, at least for the US anyway. It would be quite unusual for a summer wave of a given theme to follow only 3 months after the Winter/Spring wave (the only release anomaly I can recall from recent times is the release of Galaxy Squad in the UK). 5-6 months is more the norm, and given Europe got the sets in January, a June release there would be far more likely and that is what the app date will coincide with (plus, I had a friend who went to London Toy Fair saying to me the UA sets are due in June/July in the UK). I don't think the US is seeing the summer wave until August (I think that's what NYTF also said?). I think it's clear that I spend far too much time studying and predicting release patterns for the US and UK -

Honestly, I don't think AntiMatter's Portal Hideout is a bad set at all, and I like the idea that it's on a disused oil rig. Okay, so it's not exactly a secret or hidden base, but I would consider it fairly secluded and potentially hostile to any that try to reach it, based on the fact that real-life oil rigs are usually found quite some distance from the mainland. Plus, any oil rig is going to be an improvement on LEGO's last effort in my book (the oil rig itself isn't bad, but talk about figures being out of scale with their surroundings!). I actually find myself wishing I'd held off picking up the UltraCopter* for AntiMatter and the armoured Agent and waited for the Portal Hideout instead, because I'm going to have to pick up the Portal Hideout anyway for the gold Break Jaw helmet and the robo-shark... *Don't get me wrong, it's a terrific set, but every time I look at it, my eye keeps getting drawn to the set's major weak point, a great big empty middle part with no floor whatsoever! -
It's funny how things have suddenly turned into a discussion about Hero Factory character development. Gone but not forgotten it appears, makes me wish HS01 was back online actually as it makes me want to read about Hero Factory again Anyway, something more Bionicle related: I happened to be staring at my modified Onua earlier (one with all the gold replaced with silver), and I just can't help thinking that all the silver parts (maybe except the hammer) should have come in gold. Primarily the shoulder pads and the HF shoulder armour used on Onua's belly. It would have matched the chest decals much better if you ask me, since when you swap out the gold for silver, gold is still left on the chest decal and can look slightly out of place. The only thing that stopped me swapping the silver for gold instead (which I would have preferred if it was possible) is that the shoulder pads and the belly armour don't exist in gold and are likely not to...

male-male bone - because I was trying to say if a bone with ball joints at both ends existed, and I referred to it as a male-male bone, just as the guy who I was answering had also called it (and that the opposite, which does exist in LEGO's parts inventory, is sometimes referred to as a female-female bone). The funny thing is - I'm female! Thanks to Hinckley for the title
-
A male-male bone would be defined as one which had 2 ball joint endings (not always 5M, they couuld be any length). Would be opposite of a bone with 2 ball-cup endings, sometimes referred to as a female-female bone. There's some custom male-male bones floating around actually (talking of 3D printed, CAD-built ones, not the "purist" suggestion I posted), such as the ones in this topic for instance. That's probably what they'd look like if TLG started producing them.

2015 Speed Champions Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheOneVeyronian replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Town
Yeah, it was just the McLaren's headlights I had real problems with, the rest were pretty easy. Though I must admit - definitely not looking forward to having to apply all those stickers to the 458 Italia GT2 when I get it! And agreed on the transparent stickers, I'm so glad we didn't get those for the canopies even though I use tweezers to apply those most of the time. Though having said that, I just wish TLG had tried a little harder to try and brick build the headlights, because I think they would have added more realism and depth to the builds. Case in point, the Racers Lamborghinis, one came with stickered headlights and the other came with brick-built headlights, and I think the latter looks better for it's brick-built headlights. Though with these more minifig-scale offerings, that would have probably been near-impossible so stickers were probably the only option. Though I will say I have managed to build minifig-scale cars a similar size to these with brick-built headlights (like my McLaren F1 GTR), so it's not entirely impossible (and as someone has pointed out, quite easy to implement on the Porsche 918 even if not 100% accurate). -
Nope, not yet. But in the meantime it's quite easy to make your own 5M "male-male" bone though if you wanted to, just use 2 of these, 1 of these and a 5M axle. I'm willing to bet that's why we probably haven't seen a male-male bone yet.

2015 Speed Champions Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheOneVeyronian replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Town
I bought the McLaren P1 a week ago (waiting for double VIP in order to pick up the rest of the theme), and despite my fears that the car would look too skinny (from Brickset's review, and no I don't know why Huw decided to not apply the headlight stickers either, because the car looks really stupid without them), it has turned out to be one of my favourite sets so far this year. But... did anyone else have trouble aligning the headlight stickers? I just couldn't get it right and it's very difficut to line them up despite trying for quite some time taking care to do so. Even now I'm not sure whether I got it right -
Well, there's not really much evidence yet to assume that the first wave of 2016 will also be exclusively villains. It's entirely possible that the next wave could feature 3 heroes and 3 villains, like in 2008. Or a mix like that. That would be something I'd like to see since I tend to prefer villains to heroes. EDIT: Aw man, Leewan beat me to the idea as I was typing it But a possible tan and trans-purple guy (not calling it a villain... yet) with a cape? And possibly a Master Ekimu using possibly recoloured Luke/Vader leg shells? Yes please.

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
TheOneVeyronian replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
That's what I can't decide. I do like the ship, but I don't think I like it enough to spend £40 on it (if it were £30, that's a different story!). A friend of mine who reviews Star Wars sets for Brickset did say the set was overpriced at UK retail, so I can't decide whether to wait for a discount on it, or just buy the Inquisitor. At the end of the day, I've got to try and save money as there's about 20 sets I want that have a higher priority than the TIE Advanced, so it'll probably be just buying the Inquisitor by itself -

TheOneVeyronian replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm thinking about how to obtain The Inquisitor (with his lightsaber) for my collection, what would be the best/cheapest way of going about it? Am I better off buying 75082 TIE Advanced Prototype (maybe at a discount since £40 is quite a steep price for it!) for him and just selling off the rest of the stuff from the set I don't want, or do I just spend £10-£12 or so for him (and the saber hilt) via Bricklink? I don't mind doing either, just wondering what was best. -
Well, I guess I'll have to wait for clearer set pics and set descriptions then. I might have beeen able to tell the variants from the box set photos on Brickset, but trouble is the minifig gallery turns out far too small so I can't even see anything . Troouble is, I think that's the clearest we've got really. I wasn't counting the D2C since I know I probably can't afford that on top of everything else I have earmarked for purchase, plus we have no idea what villains, if any, it might contain. It might be ones that I simply don't have any interest in.

March's Double VIP- What are you buying?
TheOneVeyronian replied to TheFuzz's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm probably going to pick up all the Speed Champions sets aside from the Ferrari truck, the Technic Street Motorcycle and some keychains I keep meaning to pick up. Probably some PaB also so I can round off my point amounts to create more "spendable" VIP points And yes - thanks to the fact that the 50 bonus VIP point offers expire on the 13th, I'm sure the promotion in the UK will run at the same time as the US/Canada, which is good news
