Good fun! Wouldn't have minded a longer video, this seems more like a trailer. -
[RUMOR] New Tire Type
Kelkschiz replied to Dafgek81's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Don't have any myself, probably because they didn't exist when I was a kid, and after my 'darkage' I buy most of the stuff I need from Bricklink. -
Welcome to the technic forum! LEGO has included suspension systems for a long time. I remember ogling 8860 from 1980 and loving it because it included a suspension system. If you are thinking about expanding your technic collection I would start by thinking about what you would want to build. If there is a set on the market that comes close to what you want to build, it likely has a lot of parts you will want. If nothing comes close or if you looking for a few specific parts then i'd use bricklink. You may also look on bricklink for older sets that are not produced anymore. Be aware though that some are cheap and others extremely expensive.

Help / Opinion
Kelkschiz replied to neoconagenda's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
First of all I would seriously consider not selling the 8043 since it is such an awesome set. But if i had to sell it, I would sell it in it's original form because it would probably be easier to sell that way. -

Could you please post a link to that conversation? I don't quite see how that would work since afaik the power cables are design in such a way to prevent what you are suggesting. -
Hubless Motorcicle

Looking very cool . Interesting how you put it together technically. Would be nice to see a bigger version with all PF elements integrated. -
Great little ship, very nice sails and hull shape! Can see this sharp ship being a real nuisance to it's bigger cumbersome brothers ^^.

Tank suspension
Kelkschiz replied to Tclancey's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The first important thing for building a smooth suspension system, is building light. The lighter you build the smoother the suspension can be. Building light and strong requires a frame strengthened by crossbeams or something that does the same job. Take a look here to see an example of what I mean. The second important question is which suspension type to use. In your case I would pick a christie suspension or a very soft torsion bar suspension. You can get a very soft torsion bar suspension just by making the torsion bars longer. If you go with a christie suspension you should probably use the 9.5L springs; power of the spring depending on the weight of the model. If you can build it light enough, the soft spring would probably be best. The rollers placed close to each other, while still retaining full range of motion. Placing the rollers closer to each other also allows softer springs to be used than would otherwise be the case. If you want to go cheap or want to build a small model then rubber bands are a good option to replace the LEGO springs. An advantage of rubber bands is that you can easily adjust the tension strength. Which makes experimentation easier. Building a very smooth tank suspension is an art, it will probably take some experimentation to get all the factors exactly right. -
It was an inspiring contest. Thanks to all contestants, Jim and Vengit for making it possible!

Technic Records

Actually... my current project is about using hydrofoils... hydrofoils on sailboats have been done of course, but on a lego boat is will be very difficult, yet it is something i would like to try at some point... I guess you might have some candidates for that like: -

Great topic, but when speaking of records i would like to see some hard numbers. So people will know what they have to beat. Sariel's trike is listed as 20,78 km/h. Great, but what about Slewentogzz's boat? It is fast, but how fast? As Sariel, i have some reservations about including the life size car. Other nice entries might be: tallest building, most pulling power, climbing the steepest incination, fastest walker, fastest sailboat, most bricks used... -

Nice, looks a bit like one of those Theo Jansen beachbeasts.
