SNOT floor is a bit too busy, but you gotta experiment when you first start! Why is there a sword on the wall?

The sacrifice in the outskirts of Avalonia free build

No kidding. I knew who Legonardo was before I ever knew about EB or GoH but GoH is how I found out he's a teenager! -
The sacrifice in the outskirts of Avalonia free build
mccoyed replied to the lego dwarf's topic in Guilds of Historica
As a newcomer recently myself, my main advice would be to take the time to look through as much of GoH and any fantasy flickr accounts/groups you can find. Absorb the way others build things, especially techniques that are used a lot as they tend to win out over stuff that doesn't work so well. Experiment with everything, SNOT especially, as you go. I'm only a half dozen builds or so into my GoH career and I've gotten much better so it seems like your attitude is starting off perfect. I think it's vital, and not always the first thing people think to recommend, to really study the 60+ pages of builds in this forum. I did that before I even made an account. :P -
Great work. Ruins are something I've wanted to do but haven't quite gotten a solid idea/burst of confidence to try yet.

Great build altogether, really love the naval battle room.

Hat's off for this build. It's amazing and makes me want to try some of my own Marvel ideas for MOCs that I've been putting off. I always say the best praise you can give someone for a creative work is that it inspires you. This inspires me!

Very well done.

Mostly I think it could be sleeker. If you're using the existing pieces, this is probably as good as it gets!

Very cool MOC but it's kind of nauseating that you want to "reclaim" the name of a chemical weapon used in war crimes. Just saying.

Awesome.

Thanks, ME. I worked hard on this one. The Warlords story will continue when Book 2 rolls back to Nocturnus. As to my allegiance... well, I may not have shown it recently but it remains steadfastly with Mitgardia!

I was wondering when someone would try this. If you're interested in some constructive criticism, I'd say you could probably smooth this out and make it look a bit better and more natural. Maybe I'll make a griffin later to test some of my own ideas out!

I'd say you could fix the color issue with some light bley and blue (for the water) without sacrificing anything. I love this build either way, one of the best micros I've seen and one of the only ones that has ever made me feel like trying my hand at this.

Yeah, great work. Very cool prize too.

The house with the red door in Braavos

Great work. Feels very sad and lonely, appropriate for the quote. -
Templates for sails? Where?! :P

Very cool build. Where is this contest being hosted from, though? Have not seen anything for it.

I try to experiment with different techniques each build, so I'll definitely try that soon Gabe. This method works better in some applications than others. I really like it for decapitated heads, for the water (but I got lazy and should have replaced the water dots), and the ground. But not so much on top of bodies as you say. Thanks for the compliments, too!

Great tent. I have some of those centaur bodies as well, but no printed ones. :( -

Gorgeous ship. How did you do the sails? Is there an interior?

Hiking a Mountain Path (built by my little bro)
mccoyed replied to soccerkid6's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
That's really cool. I especially like the goat. He's got a good teacher in you, SK, and probably great access to parts too. :P -
Actually, I think doing this would be an incredibly smart move by TLG. My reasoning isn't perfect, but it stems from precedent. Consider the film industry, where Chinese money is now being pursued heavily by American producers which seems to often wind up changing the movies being financed (see: Looper, Transformers, Iron Man 3, and Pacific Rim for examples) so that China is reflected back to the Chinese whom investors and producers alike hope will embrace the finished product. If TLG doesn't sell much product in China, which I would bet is the case (does anyone know? I'm very curious about this) then creating a new theme around Chinese history, even the "cartoon" history of Lego, could crack that market.

Thanks fellas.

Sorry I didn't respond to this sooner! I think I'll give these settings some experimentation next time I try photographing a build. I've been slowly doing a science fiction MOC but should be returning to some GoH stuff soon. Thanks, SK. I think it may be my own favorite, too. Great to get landscape praise from you, also. I consider you one of the masters. Thanks Gideon!
