There also was the 'Balloon Cart' that popped up as a freebie right after the Mixer set was released. It also melded with that set. I am enlarging the barber shop in the DO set, but am leaving the back corner open, I also think there has to be some space behind it. I still have all the access holes for the cookie theme. I am liking how I changed it, I just can't show it yet, not had time to finish it.

This new Town Square sound like a must have...oh no! ;-) 14 minifigs? Wow... I am afraid of the US$ price!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
talos replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I don't think I have ever seen the PR ever go out of stock in the USA, its also the only set that doesn't have a limit of 5, but then again, that is probably just another blunder on the S@H site.. :-) -
Really ambitious plan, looks good. You could also build a filler wall to close it in and remove to see into the side. Take another big bunch of bricks!

Very nice job, the colors work well together, give that candy/ice cream feel. I like the refrigerator cabinet, like in the GG, nice interiors.

Thanks for all the comments on what I did with my DO. Its fun to take what is given and customizing. Its what Lego is all about ;-) My extra groom from the TH is enjoying his new job as bartender! Haha. I agree about the dart board placement, it is kind of in a hazardous location! I must admit, I was building away and had it all put together and realized, I forgot to put the dart board back! I need to examine it a little more to relocate it to the opposite wall, maybe..

I got time today to start my DO mods, I expanded the ground floor, making the Highlander extend all the way to the edge of the baseplate. Moved a few things around and added a bar and some small tables. I am using spare parts I have on hand, since I haven't bought a 2nd copy of the DO yet. I want to enlarge the upper floor too, but am still trying to think that through. For now, I put a removable flat roof over the enlarged bar area. Enlarging the barbershop is going to need a few more dark blue bricks..which I don't have. They are not cheap either, on BrickLink! Here are a few photos of how it looks.

I was just trying to access the tablet version of the S@H site. What a disaster that is! I am using an iPad and when you use the tablet version, nothing works reliably. I wish they would invest some development money on getting it to work right. I tried to go to the 'Customer Reviews' tab for the DO set. I posted a review there over 3 days ago and its still not there..but what is really annoying, when trying to page through the reviews, (says there are about 20 pages) I get to the bottom of a page, and then it changes the tab back to the Product Description. So you have to reselect the Reviews tab, and it goes back to where you were. OK, I was doing that, but then you get to about page 8 of 20, and then all the reviews disappear and it says: There are no reviews posted for this product.! Really...

Well, I was looking around on the USA S@H site the last few days, and something suddenly occurred to me. There were no 'Police' sets at all. Only the new 'Swamp Police' sets, and the small accessory blister pack. The regular police set was not to be found. The only way it appears, far as I have found, is if I do a set number search for it, then it appears, and is available to buy. Is this some sort of manipulation to steer customers to only the newest sets? Strange. Also, there are 4 pages of sets to look at by just clicking through the City Theme, but the last 2 and a half pages are all 'Sold Out' sets!

^ I took a look after your review was mentioned here, and it was a lot more negative to positive, I added a thumbs up and I think a few others here did also. I always like to see some real crit, usually an opposing view gets pounded down by the other more popular side that can't stand any views other than their own. I think that whomever polices the reviews on S@H is overworked, there hasn't been a new review added to the DO there for about 4 days, the review I posted a couple days ago has not appeared yet.

This is an interesting coincidence. I got an email asking me to post product reviews for sets I have bought recently. I think this is new, not sure, I don't recall ever getting a message like this before.

Thanks for that link, I did somehow miss that thread. Interesting reading people's take on that situation. I am inclined to think that there is a lot of editing going on in the background with reviews on S@H, which is kind of bad, not very fair to those that take time to read reviews there. I agree, if you want to really know about something Lego, its much more valuable to look here than on the Lego sites. Its too bad they don't really put a lot of effort in keeping their sites up to date and accurate. I am thinking more of Lego.com than S@H. If someone went to the Lego.com site, and tried to look for the modular buildings, they would have to spend a lot of effort, and when finally found, would find that they still show the Fire Brigade as a set that you could still buy. The DO is not even on there yet. Its been out for a couple weeks now...

I was wondering how many of you fans go to the trouble of posting a product review on the S@H site? I have only done a few personally, but am getting more interested in doing it. I think the more feedback Lego gets, assuming they read it, is a good thing. I also used to not really read any of the reviews, but again, am becoming more interested in what everyone thinks of something they wanted and then bought. A lot of them are not worth much, the one line type reviews. I find it useful to see the ages and country the reviewers are from, puts attitudes into context a little more. Something its hard to judge on Eurobricks where you can hide all that information. Reviews can be voted upon as well there, thumbs up or down if you agree or disagree with the review. I personally only vote on a few here and there. I was wondering too if you posted a review on there and then added a photo. I have tried doing that twice, and as far as I know, followed the guidelines and have yet to have a photo actually be added to the reviews... Strange that there are a few customer photos here and there, but they all seem pretty much identical to the official photos used for a set. Maybe there is just a huge time lag for things being posted...I don't know.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I have loved seeing photos of everyone's layouts. For me, I like to keep my layout real, by putting houses next to each other and businesses together. Does anyone else think about details like that? I see a lot of layouts with the DO next to the townhouse next to the FB...that doesn't seem right to me...Maybe I am being too realistic/logical...LOL -
I am wondering how often has there been a triple VIP point offer? I have only been back into Lego for the past year, and have not ever seen a 3x offer. When was the last time that happened? Anyone remember?

I am curious how everyone uses their VIP Points when they collect enough to use them on new purchases. For me, I have been saving them up, not using them on every purchase. Lately, I use enough at one time to pay for the tax on what I am ordering. I want to save some for later, in case there is something else I want to buy. For me, I have to pay tax of 9%, and that can be a big chunk of change if I get something pricey. Do most people blow all of the points at once, or do you just use part of them at one time? Curious!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
talos replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I can't help but feel they want to bring the modulars back into the child's realm, by going in the direction they have been going, and screw the AFOL's that buy them. -
I too have a new set, just finished building it, the Creator 'Beach Hut' (31035) and it has some big variations in the dark blue roof slope bricks. I think about 5 of them are a noticeably lighter shade of blue than the rest. It is OK I guess, a roof has variations in the tiles..LOL. I think the darker colors do have problems of consistency, they need to tweak the process molding the parts.
-
I got one of the infamous Fire Brigade sets that was missing an entire bag. Lego sent me the replacement group of parts, and this was well after the set was retired and not available anymore to purchase.
-
So right, that situation is right there with the other sets I have that have a chimney right above a large window! An example, the 'Seaside House' (7346). :-) We are too much realists!
-
That makes sense, I would love to know how to repurchase a returned set, if they do sell them somehow. I am thinking that a returned set gets broken up into the parts bin for 'Pick a Brick' though.

Nice job, your photo of the 3 level DO side, making it the taller of the two is much better composition of the DO set, to me. I want to do the same now! haha... What color is the top level? It looks like the dark tan color? Instead of the med. dark flesh color used on the original? Or is the photo causing the difference?
