  1. I went to the 'exclusive' VIP event at my closest store today, and was hoping to see the DO on display...and it sounds like some did get to see it, at their stores. Alas, not at mine, I asked about it, and got the answer that they didn't have any of it yet...its not out till next year...etc...Humphh..... :-/
  2. I am just back from the VIP event. There were about 6 people when we first got let in. I asked and they had only about 10 RSVP's to it. It was rather underwhelming for me too. Not even any chat with the others, no one really mingled and then most got what they wanted and were gone in under 14 minutes...lol. Oh well, my first and probably last, not going to spend nearly as much as I have this year. I got a ton of free wrapping paper, a build-able Christmas tree ornament, a calendar, and the freebie for spending enough, of the Winter Skating Scene, and the Turkey. I bought another PC, since is the only single I have, and a Friends set for my niece, and a MineCraft set. Also a Friends buildable box set, that they said was new, and not on the shelves yet.
  3. Wow, I go away for a couple days and there are 5+ more pages of comments here...haha, Sunday morning reading. Great to see images finally. My first impression, just from a glance I saw 'Bike Shop' street...LOL. I like it, I do need to see more photos and greater detail though, before passing judgement. It does seem interior biased to me though. Flattish fronts on the two buildings. They aren't separatable either it looks. I love on the back box photo, its next to the PR.....not sure I want to eat there anymore..LOL. I think they picked the adjoining buildings in that photo to only show 2 level modulars. I think if one of the others (3 levels) were in the photo, the height difference would be quite pronounced. I can work with that though. Thats a lot of dark flesh brick profile on the DO building. Maybe too much for me. That particular brick only comes in a 1x4 in the dark flesh color, so that explains its use. The other colors, like light bluish gray only comes as a 1x2. I will be buying one, maybe two, at some point. I have to say though, for me, like the PR, it has tons of interior details, but I have found, I will take it apart to see the interiors for a little while, but then it doesn't come apart. I just look at the exteriors, and maybe they are a little flat for me. I am sure it will all blend together after a while though. Oh and also, I like how its using parts I would never of known about, from lines of sets I wouldn't ever buy. Puts new ideas in my head too!
  4. I think you needed of spent closer to $3K to get an invite.
  5. I RSVP'd yesterday, all they wanted to know is if I was bringing the allowed one guest. I forgot to ask how many were invited.
  6. I have a lot of tile snot on the modular building project that isn't building correctly, and that shows up right away. I noticed too that it is adding tile before the plate they are all attached to is added. So for me, even the regular stacked brick and tiles are not placed correctly. I wonder if the problem is worse on the Mac version, which is what I am using.
  7. Good grief, I have been trying to use the building guide mode, and it takes forever to open too. I am using the Mac v. 4.3.8. When it does finally open, it is not right. As you step thorough the design, its building it in a crazy order. Its putting bricks in place that are missing lower bricks that must be placed beforehand. Its just about useless like this. It used to work fine, but since this last update, its wacko.
  8. I got an invitation in yesterday's post. Its for the closest store to me, though I have been to 2 of the 3 stores within driving distance of here. It is the first time for me, so want to go and see what its got to offer. I too really don't have much I want to get though, and so its going to be mostly Christmas shopping, and maybe some duplicates I could use. I better start doing some research....LOL If they do have a PAB gift...I wish it was for the other store I have been to, the one for the invite has a pretty sad PAB wall...for me at least.. I just read something about the invitations; there is a number printed above your name on the envelope the invitation came in, and that is your place on the invitee list. My number is 2.... I wonder how many total for that store.
  9. ^Thanks for the crit, I went with mostly white to get the look of a cast iron facade. I have always liked the amazing amount of detail on a building like that (do a photo search on 'white cast iron facade buildings'). Also the amount of Lego I had on hand was more white than other colors for the parts needed. I do have some dark red awning pieces, I might try swapping the white with that..a dark red/yellow awning? hehe..maybe it would work. The way I have my city arranged, its in a U-shaped block, so has a middle open area where all the modulars backyards connect, so having the stairs there makes sense in my situation. If the new modular does have an alley, it would fit quite well with my layout.
  10. So far, I have kept all my boxes, I have space still in a bedroom closet. They were stacking up, then I realized I could fit several smaller ones inside of the larger and condensed it down to about half of what it was just stacked up. I still want to hold out and save them. Though, I have almost decided to recycle some of the really small ones, the ones you have to tear open, because they are glued instead of taped shut and they got damaged from that.
  11. They were going to make more TH sets...but then they realized all the clock faces got used up on the Santa's workshop sets...haha! :-)
  12. Thanks for the ideas on improvements. I agree, the flags were a last minute addition mistake. They are now gone. I just left the single one in the center. I think it looks better. Here are photos of the interior and the other angles of the exterior. Pardon the couple bits that are askew, they got bumped around a little moving it to take photos. I added the sign too. I originally wanted it to be 3 full levels, but sort of ran out of bricks, so the top level has an outdoor terrace, soon to add some chairs and flowers. The flower box on the rear is also to be modified, when some additional parts get here from BL. Hope this isn't too many photos!
  13. I have been spread pretty thin and have been trying to work on this MOC of a wine and spirits store, with a two level apartment/flat above it. I want to take more photos of it and the interior, but only had time to take a couple of the facade. The ground level is the store, and above, reached by exterior stairs is a flat with living on the first floor and a bedroom and roof terrace on the 2nd. I would be interested in what everyone thinks of how it looks. I finally got the roof on today, but it still needs the sign over the entrance and some small details added. Already, the firefighters from next door are looking inside (they are having a bbq on the roof of the Fire Brigade building next door.) :-) Thanks for any constructive crit. :-) I will post more photos of the interior and rear soon.
  14. The TH popped up as 'call to check availability' today, on S@H USA, so I called, and told me they didn't have any...told me to check 3rd party retailers.... I guess the couple units that popped up got sold.
  15. I keep track of the sets I have using Brickset. Its also handy to get some statistics on popularity. Its a small subset of total sold, maybe, but I think its valid to compare each of the modulars on how many people have them or want to get them. I think you need to factor in how long each has been available, and price, along with the design's popularity. FB 8964 own, 3473 want GE 9763 own, 3567 want PS 8371 own, 3511 want TH 6537 own, 3642 want PC 5765 own, 3419 want PR 3668 own, 4103 want
  16. PS is back in stock on S@H USA...gettem while they're hot! ;-)
  17. I had the same problem with sets. I used a Town Hall to build my Ideas MOC, and since have gotten a couple LOTR sets just for parts. I've sort of graduated from just pristine sets to seeing them just as parts to build MOCs. I do keep certain ones intact, like one each of the modulars. A lot of the small City sets I don't have problems taking the parts for my own ideas. Really, that's what Lego is all about.
  18. There are several toilets/bathroom/showers in the Friends sets, Heartlake High, Stephanie's Beach House, Sunshine Ranch. I noticed that looking for sets for my niece.
  19. My older PS has the 2stud fence parts, matching the instruction manual, no missing parts. I did notice the same substitution with the railings on the PR set though. On that set, the top of the fence parts are covered with tile pieces, so the difference is hidden.
  20. TH is back again (USA), still says 20 Oct. availability... I think they are just screwing with us now... ;-)
  21. Haha, I saw that too, this morning. That availability window was less than a full day.
  22. I went down to my closest Lego Store today, and asked about what they had in stock, and just a few PR, and a few PC sets. They ran out of TH's over the weekend and don't expect to get any more; no PS's either. I am not sure if they were too up on it all though. Oh well. I wanted to get the Christmas freebie so ended up buying an Arkham Asylum Escape set... I like that red glass window in the tower. They didn't have the Friends set I wanted to get now for a Christmas gift, so I guess I will be making an online order after all, I still have a free shipping code and a $50 gift card I got for my birthday...
  23. ^ This was my idea too. BTW I read somewhere else that the TH should be back in stock around mid October (13th is what they wrote). I figure it will go through the same on and off like GE has been doing.
  24. I think, like everything else, price kept the popularity down for the TH. I think it was a pricing experiment, to see if there was a market for larger modulars. I think the $50 price premium was a little too much for a lot of potential buyers. Then came the PR, which was somewhere in the middle at $159, and it did better. On S@H I have noticed that all the modulars have purchasing limits, either 2 or 5, but the PR has no such restriction. I wonder if that means there is a huge supply of that set. I agree with others, about the TH being sold out in USA, it will reappear, as stock is rearranged. Just keep an eye out every day or two and I bet it reappears, like the GE has. I think the jig really is up for the GE though. The rumor on an alley down the center. My visualization is an alleyway, with the building spanning it on the upper floors, so it would be kind of a pass through. To have space for an alley really makes the two halves very small spaces... Lets keep up the ideas, there are as many theories as people on here to give them! :-)
