Efferman's Custom Parts

Shame, cannot see it at Shapeways, as if it does work now - I bet there would be some who do want it. Great review anyhow. -
It's a bit shame that education version programs are not available for home edition, but there is at-least recreation of gyro boy for EV3 home edition. Naturally gyro sensor is needed. As programming environment, you don't miss much with home edition as even it lacks data logger, you can see direct sensor values - that is enough for most cases. Rechargeable battery of education kit is definitely a nice bonus, but naturally rechargeable AA size batteries do work fine with home edition, so it's not really a issue.

Love those customized portals. Did you need to do much fine tuning after printing? Are they compatible with wheels that comes with lego 8110 unimog or do they need 3D printed wheels too? -
For my son's Unimog (under construction) we made a partial "redpin" replacement; replaced pins nearer the front bumper and used original, but as loose as possible, red pins at inner side (for a nine year old kid, this change was great enough as he wanted to follow building instructions). Works fine enough with a original look. But for proper steering the LPEPower (nicjasno) solution is better, if you have all the parts.

Gears, most wanted

You can still use sketchup, just need a bit different strategy. First, made a simple "base" model (cube, cylinder, ect) in a correct scale as a component (to make a component, select the model and use edit > make component). Then duplicate that component and scale it 100x (or 1000x if needed) and start editing the up-scaled component. When you ready, just remove the scaled up component and you have all details in the small component (that otherwise is impossible to edit).
