This has to be my fav of your series of towers - the facade ornamentation is lavish without being over the top, the green dome works well and i'm heartened to see that you've added a door as well. I do agree with others though that the side of the building is a little plain, and i'd love to see this building put in some kind of context by adding the street scene around it. In addition, the white showing through the windows is rather distracting - some drapes, or a back wall, or even just a stack of black bricks behind the windows would really sell the illusion of a solid building. UoP +1 for adv. windows and 1x1 round plate walls.

Great build ME, love it! Nice to see how the other half lives, in contrast to your imposing and grand Lagash Ur builds.
-
Love the duck Kai, very inventive! The forced perspective is nice too. Personally i feel that the stacked tiles translates better as cracked and baking mud flats, as opposed to smooth wet mud, but either way it works well in the scene. Geography UoP +1 for swamps.

The epic story continues! Nice build ME, the grate and the lava fall are definitely the highlights. A little more height variation between the black rock and the fortress wall would work wonders, as the line where the the two meet looks unnaturally straight (though who's to say what's unnatural in Nocty? ), but i'm sure you are aware of this. I look forward to seeing Anfauglir's camp!

A top notch build and an awesome storyline to go with it too! I love how tall and forbidding your interior spaces are, it makes the perfect foil for all the drama going on.

So awesome LD. Good to see you back building after your broken arm earlier in the year! The roof is sweet but i also like the half-timbered section over the front door with the curved beams. Your solution to the back is genius too.

Wow Gideon, sounds like you did a real number on yourself! Plaster casts are the worst - they get so itchy. Hope you recover soon, hey. (How did your bike come off btw - much damage?) Sounds cool gedren, looking forward to seeing it! Damn, everyone's in the wars it seems. Hope your injury heals up soon Ska, sounds painful. Really looking forward to next week though - bring it on! -
Lovely compact build, Lord Vladivus. The snotted floors give it a very clean look, and i like the sweet ballista design too. Glad to see that you have added a small ornamental tree on the rooftop, small details like this really make me feel at home. 'Tis an honour to have my sigfig woven into your story as well, so thankyou! If i might make a small suggestion, what would really knock this build out of the park would be if you added some background scenery through the windows and dungeon door, at least in the close up shots. You might also want to work a little on your presentation - some of your pics need to be rotated a tic to get the ground level, and the hue and saturation seems quite variable as well. The focus is good though - nice and crisp!

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gabe replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Sorry i've been so absent lately peeps, i've had a couple of Lego shows in the last few weeks and have also been fighting off a flu bug, so my energy levels have been right down. Had a false start on my Sultan's Gate build too, so i'm not too far into that still... ah well. I will get it done, i like the idea i have for it too much! So who's excited for the upcoming battle of Wither Woods? I certainly am! -

Congrats Legonardo, well deserved win for that beauty! Hope you scored some nice loot! -
Ah, just one of those coincidences then! Really? That i didn't know. I just assumed that it was similar to the beast of Persian mythology, which also happens to bear some resemblance to infernum's dragon.

Good stuff Mccoyed! Your latest WIP looks like a great improvement.

Sounds like a fun idea, I would be interested in taking part in something like this. The LOR model sounds like a good start. How do they assign rankings at the beginning? Or does everyone start at the bottom rank and then rely on a honour system of challenging builders of equal or slightly higher skill until everyone finds a comfortable level? (Personally, i prefer an honour system as i think ppl can get a bit fixated on rank and their perceived place in a hierarchy) Other questions - how long do contestants have for each challenge? Are there "rounds" of challenges when everyone is invited to nominate their preferred builder to compete against, or is it just a free- for-all, anyone can challenge anytime? I can imagine also that some builders might want to take a break now and then from this sort of competition, should there be rules about how long ppl can take between challenges, or how many challenges they can decline before being removed from the list of competitors? I'm sure ppl can think of other questions about how this might be run, i'm just throwing out some for starters.

Wow, impressive! The Victorian house is very cool - both a well thought out structure and highly detailed too. With each successive moc i can see her improving more and more - she's scary good! I am very interested to see what she decides to build next.

Congrats Damaximus! Ooh, setting up an institution to rival Petraea Uni hey? Cool stuff! Look forward to seeing what you come up with. Nice Gideon, glad to hear you are having fun in the US. I've been taking some of my recent mocs to shows too, but only locally - certainly nothing as cool as Brickworld! Sounds great Kai, looking forward to seeing your micro castle! I do enjoy your microscale builds. Weekly free builds? Nothing not awesome about that! -
It's less the water effect that is the issue, than the way you have orginised the bank to direct the water flow - as you have it now, it looks a bit unnatural, as a rock of that size in the middle of a stream would cause the dammed up water behind it to widen the stream at that point, wheras in your WIP it still looks very narrow. You can still have a narrow stream at that point, but you will have to shore up the banks there with rockwork to make the channelling of the water believable, is what i was originally saying. But if you want that point to be a narrow ford, showing that water there is very shallow, then i would suggest ditching the rock entirely, and instead putting some 1x1 dark bley (wet rock is often darker than dry rock) tiles in the stream with some trans-clear round plates around them as bubbles, much like ME has done in his WIP. Landscaping is often less about technique, and more about observation of the natural world - how does water behave in streams and rivers? What happens when sand or rock gets wet? What shapes of leaves and foliage do different trees have? etc and so on. May i humbly suggest then that you invest in a few hundred 1x2 plates in dark tan? Seriously, i did this a couple of years ago and it remains one of my most used pieces for landscaping. They aren't that expensive, $20-30 worth should see you right. Dark orange is more expensive and harder to come by in large lots i know, but it makes an excellent accent or transition colour if you can afford it. While yr at it, maybe it's time to grab some trans-clear round plates and trans-blue tiles as well. Of course, that might not help you with this build, sorry! It does suck having to rip up part of your build to fix something at a lower level, i can feel your pain there. But it's often worth taking the trouble to fix an early mistake. Snap! My thoughts exactly.

First Moc, wowzers, are you serious?? This is awesome - everything is great (including the sign, so cool), but i love those dinos in particular! I can't honestly remember being so blown away by a someone's first posted moc since Mike Doyle. Has she been building for long?

Thanks SK, glad you like my build! Yeah, the humble log brick certainly has it's detractors, but i find it's quite a useful piece. Cheers Damaximus! Thanks, i tried to increase the range of water shades by adding differently coloured clips underneath the trans-tiles - glad to hear that you liked the effect! Thanks fellows, all your kind words are very much appreciated!

Purify yourselves in the waters of Kaliphlin Spas[Free Build]
Gabe replied to legoman19892's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice build legoman! I like the palm leaf roof and the fancy dias. Haha, i love how you asked everyone if their sigfig would go to the spa and nobody's bitten yet... I may as well be the first - i'm sure Erudhalion would jump at the chance, being footloose and fancy free! (so far anyway!) edit: oops, miscounted - looks like i'll be seeing mccoyed there maybe?- 13 replies

Nice free builds legoman and nightstalker! Heeey everyone... how are you all doing? I've finally caught up on all the challenge entries now, so yay, but only managed it cause i'm sick and confined to bed for a few days, so boo. I am plotting something for the Sultan's gate community build now, not sure what, but i want to take it to a show in a couple of weeks so i better get cracking! Anyone else building stuff, or just taking a break after the challenge? -
Great beast Infernum, looks a bit like a manticore, especially with that spiked tail. (Do i detect a GoT reference in there, considering that the viper used manticore venom on his weapon when he fought the mountain?? ) I especially like the shaping on the head and spine, and of course the NPU on the tail club is super! I think you could possibly refine the shape of legs a bit better though, they seem rather thick and flat on the outside profile. Looking forward to seeing your next dragon, brick built creatures rock!

Gabe replied to mrcp6d's topic in Guilds of Historica
Sweet as, mrcp6d! I love how polished and perfectly proportioned everything is in this vig. You have quite a restricted colour palette here, but the little splashes of green around the place really lift it and prevent it from seeming drab. I like your version of the drow too - i always thought those Ninjago heads would look great for drow!
