  1. Welcome back, Mephistopheles! Lovely build, and i'm very interested to see how this will expand onto other modules. Love the fishing net and all the details on that beautiful longhouse.
  2. Lovely scene Bregir, it really captures the spirit of a bustling marketplace. I especially like the fountain. Some 1x1 and 2x2 round tiles, interspersed with plate would help the ground a bit though. UoP +1 for Trade and Law, Marketplace, and Life in Kaliphlin. I know that the scene is in Avalonia, but i'm going more from what i can see in the moc itself, and less from the accompanying description. To me, the scene feels like Kaliphlin, so it gets my vote. I can totes understand why the other assessors feel differently though. (and it's a easy credit to pick up later anyway if you don't get the 4 for this)
  3. Heh, i know what you mean! It's certainly been hard to keep up with the activity in this thread lately. Hope you had a good trip away. Looking forward to seeing what you are working on! Welcome to the guild BrickCurve!
  4. I understand where you are coming from as well, but what i am saying is, there are other, more appropriate forums where you can ask detailed advice about minifig combos etc. You don't have to run every single small decision you make with your mocs, figs and storylines through this thread, if you do, it will just get overwhelming for everyone else. This is not the place for 5 posts nitpicking over whether or not to make your orcs' legs reddish brown or dark brown, for instance. Gosh, you could just make one yourself and see if you like it - easy enough to add a couple of legs into your latest BL order.
  5. And a thing of beauty it is too SarahJoy! Great to see you getting stuck in so soon. I like the sound of purple as an accent colour, although it's sad that the range of purples in Lego is so limited. Lavender/dark orange and tan could be a goer, or dark purple/olive and tan? Idk. The belly is usually a lighter colour, so maybe make that more neutral and have the brighter accents on the back. Looking forward to seeing your free-builds too! I have got my beast for the mount up challenge 90% done, i've just got to give it a habitat now. I'm going to try to get that up in the next week. Welcome to the best guild Jdw! (I'm going to abbreviate your username to that, if that's ok? ) Looking forward to you character and backstory! Hey Behemoth, this is possibly getting a little too off-topic for the guild thread - perhaps there are better places for this convo, like the Minifig Customisation Workshop? Of course, if you post figs and ask for feedback that's perfectly fine, but we really don't want to clog up this thread with endless requests to see specific minifig combos. Thanks!
  6. Excellent first GoH build Sarah, really nice! The red stripes on the house have a pleasing echo in the dark orange stripe in the base, and the gold ornamentation lifts the whole build. Not only that, but your ground landscaping is complex and detailed. I'm a fan of those potted saplings by the door too, they are simple but they look great, and help to delineate the hidden doorway. (You can also use green spikes for small plants too) Speaking of the doorway, some other ways to make it stand out would be to make a lintel over the door or a door frame, or small stairs leading to the doorway (which you kindof have, except the tan blends in with the ground), or perhaps not have the stripes go over the door itself. And then of course you can have texture and colour variations as well. Your interior is great as well! So much to look at on such a small base. I'm really looking forward to seeing your township grow.
  7. Hahaha, Gillette! I hope he gives Petera's forces more than just a close shave... Hopefully Garret can help out the right flank a bit too. Oh, and great developments - luck dragon vs Dwarven rocket launcher, which will prevail?
  8. Great finale to your story Nightstalker, i really like the landscaping on this vignette. That golem looks pretty boss too. Sad to hear that you are departing GoH, we will miss you in Kaliphlin!
  9. Cool intro story for your character, Behemoth. The minifig posing is good and the action is cropped nice and tight. I agree that Niro is a bit smiley under the circumstances, perhaps it would be better to see him in the last pic looking back at his home as he is dragged away, so that the face isn't visible. Great to see you posting mocs! I'm looking forward to seeing more chapters in your character's development.
  10. Nice intro Behemoth! May i extend a hearty Kaliphlin welcome to Niro Goldwine! I look forward to hearing more of his story soon. Aw, sad to see you go Nightstalker, we will miss your contribution to the guild. Never say never though, perhaps you will come back and visit us here someday? How come the name change, DM? (I like it, btw. Sounds snappy! )
  11. Thanks NM and Kai! Just finished my first day on the job, phew! I can't talk too much out of school here, but first impressions are that i'll be working in a wide variety of scales. It's certainly challenging and hopefully will contribute to make me a better builder. We've only ever had cats, and they can be destructive enough to a building space. I can't think of any suggestions that haven't already been aired, hope you get a workable solution soon! Welcome to Kaliphlin Siedna! Great intro - Ruadh sounds fascinating, i can't wait to see you bring it to life! Woot, congrats Kai! I always meant to do a small build celebrating Gideon's Bachelors degrees, i might have to make it into a dual graduation! Mate, i wouldn't describe any moc that someone makes and posts as "just a flop and a waste". For a start, every build you produce provides you with a baseline to challenge yourself against with your next moc. Furthermore, you will often get helpful advice from other ppl about your posted work - noone can help you improve if they can't see what you can already do! It seems to me that you are very anxious to make a good impression with your first mocs, to have some kind of "wow" factor that makes you stand out from the crowd. But at the moment, the only way you are standing out is by the sheer amount of text posts that you are producing. I think it's great that you are so excited about contributing to the GoH world, but perhaps it's time to step back on asking for approval for all your ideas and refine your backstory a bit in private. That way, when you do have a big intro moc that you are happy with to post, it will have a greater impact as we won't have heard of it everyday for two weeks. Just relax a little! Post a small vignette, or microscale, or experiment with making furniture or custom purist weapons etc. (I know you don't have many bricks, but i know you do have some - i've seen 'em! ) Don't worry too much about canon, just get in there are start bricking.
  12. Yeah, challenge II results are in! I think most of us were on deGothia's side (or got honourable mentions, hi Mike!), so congrats all round, but specially for Kayne and Gideon - nice work fellas! Haha, thanks robuko! Yeah, starting work on Tues, i'm so keen to get into it!
  13. Great wrap-up RA, so cool to see everyone's builds being woven into the overarching GoH lore. This was such a fun challenge and the standard of entries was great to see. Congrats to Infernum, Kayne and Gideon - and i think it was Kai's idea to run the collab on our side so a big shout-out to her as well! Looking forward to challenge III!
  14. It's interesting, remember way back when SoT was posting, he had his dwarves using muskets, also i think Fat Tony (another Mitgardian from book I) had a steampunkish dwarven ship which was pretty cool. So i'm not sure when the "no guns, no tech" thing became enforced. Not being devil's advocate, just a little confused with some of the inconsistancy in GoH lore. The most recent tech that i've introduced in my builds would be the fire thrower on my dromon, and the compound-like bows (the famous "Evergold archery system", invented by my master bowyer, Waisur Iarel) Actually, in that last moc i had a hand cranked sapper's drill as well. So tech does exist in GoH, but it's generally (a) rare, (b) expensive or c) possibly dangerous or unreliable to the user. Generally speaking, it seems magic and necromancy are more reliable and easily available options in GoH than tech! Yeah, we do struggle to keep up on number of mocs with Mitgardia - but i do think we hold own with regards to quality, so that's something! My time for moccing is fast disappearing - the new job i've started was originally going to be part-time, but now they want me full-time for the next six months. Get this though - it's as a Lego model builder for a local events company! (Dream job - score! ) So who knows how i'm going to feel when i get home in the evening - possibly moccing will be the furthest thing from my mind, having been building all day. I hope not, but i'll definitely be slowing down here - just a heads up.
  15. Nice build Kai! I like the attention you have paid to the roofs, they look great. The walls seem a little plain however. Some more windows would do wonders to brighten up both the exteriors and the interiors. Also, some different material or technique for the foundation level, perhaps with a step up to the doorway, would add something to your buildings too. I do like your luthier's workroom, that's a very nice interior, although the downstairs shop seems a bit bare (and who is selling the instruments?) UoP+1 for all credits. I was on the fence about the interiors one, but i do like that workshop!
  16. Daaamn... that is truly a sight for sore eyes! Beautiful work! It has a real sense of homliness and realism to that is just perfect. What a great way to introduce yourself to GoH!
  17. Interesting construction of the outrigger, is it based on anything in particular? The sail and rigging set-up looks unfamiliar to me, i don't know of any masts that have such an acute backward lean. But she looks very sleek and i like your minifig posing, especially of Crius. Photography is lovely too, very crisp! I'm looking forward to Atlas and Crius's continued adventures!
  18. Looks like a happy gathering with a feast of plenty! A very appealing scene. The tiny cakes are an excellent touch too.
  19. I think you are the only builder i know who uses the sports panels for walls - it looks great and works so well here. The story is very engaging as well. I have to agree with Kai though, i'd really like to see some better pics - you don't need an awesome camera to get things in focus, most compacts and even phones provide pretty decent images these days. UoP +1 for Life in Kaliphlin. (Good to see some more university builds as well!)
  20. I like the sand pattern, very cool. Perfect use for the Iron Man minifig too!
  21. Lovely ship Slobey, some nice shaping at the bow and the figurehead looks awesome! I like the height on the rear decks too, although i do find the overall shape of the stern a little bit boxy. The sails were a great addition, worth waiting for. Good to see some more nice ships coming out of Avalonia!
  22. Nice going LD, congrats! Look forward to seeking what you get up to with all your new loot.
  23. Hey Kabel; great guide, very useful! Although i'd love to see some links from the thumbnails to the topics, so i can get a better look at the mocs. Also, i know it's a lot of work, but maybe you could update the moc list with some of the ships from the recent GNAR challenge? I like the look of the following ships for the list: The VanHorn - robuko The Wayfarer - Gabe The Sapphire - Thomas of Tortuga Deniz Aslani - Mike S Barqan Dromon - Gabe The IceStorm - Garmadon Ormr hinn víðfǫrli - Sea Bull - Hammerhead The Serpent's Pride - Infernum Gylden Abiron - -Carson Haupt- The Mirror - Gilbert Despathens Nocturnian Patrol Boat - MassEditor The Smiling Phantom - Emma I guess some of these might be too fantasy oriented for the historical emphasis you have in your guide though. I just include them cause they are sweet looking ships! Edit: Found a couple more! The Harpy - Slobey The continued adventures of Atlas: The Spice Ship - Hobbythom
  24. Have you checked out all the guides in the "History Guides and Indices" sticky? In particular, DC's guide is excellent.
