First MOC - WIP - Lord Business HQ with Evil Lair - LDD
rockethead26 replied to rockethead26's topic in LEGO Town
The third floor is complete except for a double layer of plates . It needed to be a double-double floor for height purposes. I could put in some elements from the Evil Lair .lxf file that's available, but even though it should fit with a 2 stud margin, I couldn't get the main Kragle assembly to anchor to the floor. I tried various things for almost two hours to no avail. It really doesn't matter as I was just trying to install it to check for fit. I'll have some leeway when I actually build this as I can make minor modifications to how pieces are attached to make it all work. Looks like the top of the Kragle assembly will reach to within a brick or so of the ceiling. I've decided to put a ritzy penthouse apartment on top of the building for Lord Business. That will take me a while as I have no idea what I'm going to do yet so updates to this thread will be slow in coming. This building will be a lot taller than I originally thought. Current piece count including the melting room and the parts of the evil lair set is now at 4055. Here's a LDD screen shot: -
Ooh, excellent!

tikicult, I don't have any suggestions for your layout as we are now just starting to build our own. I did want to show you an example of what you can do on BlueBrick. Our layout will be about 5'x8.5'. I'm sure this will be changed a zillion times, but it gives us a starting point. I already have to move my Evil Lair position since I just started building it in LDD and it needs to rotate 90°. Here's a pic of our BlueBrick layout. Have fun. We are planning on having 3 trains on the set, Maersk, the Horizon Express and the new Cargo Train.

Some really impressive vehicles. Especially like Brickwater L1!

First MOC - WIP - Lord Business HQ with Evil Lair - LDD

I did not take it the wrong way at all and I'm glad you like the changes. Well, you didn't have to wait long, here's the second floor update pics: Setting up the Melting Room took a lot of time, especially figuring out how to install pieces at odd angles. I couldn't resist putting a break room next to the melting machinery so the robot cops have a place to get a hot cup of coffee while their maintaining the equipment for the next session. I'm really having fun with this. I want to figure what to do about putting a large monitor screen on the wall in front of the computer station. Maybe 8x12 studs or so. I wouldn't know what to put on it, maybe a blue screen of death ;-) Piece count is 2369 including the three mini figures and the 122 pieces of the melting room set. -
Amazing what you managed to fit into a 16 wide building! I like the design.

Love this. It's so big and detailed and provides a lot of space for things to happen. Really well done!

First MOC - WIP - Lord Business HQ with Evil Lair - LDD

Did a little redesign on the front and added the solid bathroom doors. What changed on the front: 1) Repositioned design element bricks on top row to better match up with the windows. 2) Changed out the dark green palisade bricks for the earth green profile bricks 3) Added another 2x2 window on each side of the front doors and removed the green accent bricks. I think the front looks much better now. Comments? -

BrickRally, I found the part number for the Simpson's door and it is in LDD. The color is not right for my building, though. While looking at that door, I noticed that it was listed as a glass door even though it is opaque. I pulled in one of the other "glass" doors and it turns out that it was opaque white. Perfect. Thanks for getting me to experiment. I guess I shouldn't put too much confidence in the naming of the parts in LDD. Thanks again! Two problems solved. -

Weeble, You were correct! I guess I slid it over by mistake. Sometimes I highlight and grab the wrong thing to move it around. It was a simple fix! Thank goodness I'm not that unobservant! Thanks for the complement on the rear of the building. I guess I need some work on the front ;-) I appreciate your help! -

I'll look. Thanks for the heads up. -
Hi folks, My wife and I have been building LEGO modulars (heck, any LEGO) for about 5 months now. We will be putting together our own town with trains over the next year(s) and I decided that my first attempt at a MOC would be a 3-4 story Lord Business HQ that would hold the movie sets 70809 (Lord Business' Evil Lair) and 70801 (Melting Room). I spent all day yesterday and about half the day today putting this together and learning my way around LDD. I put a lot of work into this without building the Evil Lair to see if it would fit area wise, so I hope I don't have to redo too much once I do. One or more of the upper floors will need to be somewhere around double height to accommodate the tall models. I'm thinking the upper floors will be mostly glass so we can see into the evil lair on the top floor. This is the first floor and the model is on a 32x48 base. The first floor is the nice part of the building that visitors will see and is done "corporate nice" in Octan colors. Piece count so far is 1286. This is by no means meant to model the HQ tower in the movie. The space in the left rear corner is a non-operational elevator. So far, I have the following issues: 1) Somehow I missed a row of studs on the side of the base plate. I've only looked at this thing for two days and I just now noticed it. 2) No solid doors that I can find for the public bathrooms that don't require a side hinge. I didn't allow for that as I thought that surely there would be solid 1x4x6 doos available that fit the standard frame. 3) I forgot to carry the green mid-line inside the building around the entryway side of the conference room. Looking forward to figuring out the plate structure for the floor of the second story. I want to make this modular so that each floor can be lifted off. I purposely left off the technic pins on the first row of bricks as I don't intend to attach this to another modular. Please let me know what you think and I will take any and all suggestions as I am a complete newbie. I will continue posting to this thread as I complete more of the building. Here are some pics:

Got our EIA edition yesterday. As Blondie-Wan stated It includes DVD, BlueRay and BlueRay 3D, Download Coupon, Vitruvius minifigure and something that I haven't seen mentioned, a cool 3D plastic molded portrait of Emmit that stands up like a picture frame. AWESOME!- 2,626 replies

rollermonkey and RaYell, Thanks for confirming what I thought. Only simple solutions in LEGO. I didn't think about the teeth that are normally used. Like you guys, I'll get used to it.

I'm just winding up this very cool build, and just having joined the two towers to the drawbridge, I noticed that the road plates on the drawbridge sit about a tile's depth below the tunnel road plates on either side. At first, I thought I did something wrong, then I Googled some reviews and all of them look that way. It bugs me! That's quite a bump for the poor little LEGO vehicles. It looks like the bridge wouldn't lift if the plates were even, but it seems like there would be a better way to design this to make it look more realistic. I'm pretty new to the LEGO world, so my curiosity is getting the better of me.

I wasn't enlightened until I was 62. Never played with LEGO until 5 months ago. I guess my whole previous life was "dark".
-
Really well done, slideout and all. Looks very realistic.

You could always tunnel through them ;-)

MOC: Airport runway, control tower, terminal and jetway

This is an incredible city and the new airport is awesome. Such creativity! -
I used to have a microwave with twin rotary dials on it. One for the timer and one for power. So the antenna is just confusing.
