[WZ12, H12: Desert King] The fight for the Terraces
MassEditor posted a topic in Guilds of Historica
As with most of the Desert King's campaigns, his forces hit the Great Loop with a swiftness and ferocity that left the defenders trembling in their foxholes. Those who were not felled in the initial fury of combat were so shocked that they surrendered quickly. Below, Desert King forces haul away High Council soldiers who, through a negotiated settlement with Ulandus, had agreed to bolster the Great Loop defenses. Having suffered several major defeats in recent weeks - and fighting far from their homes - the High Council soldiers were quick to give up their position around a series of steep rice terraces near the Qar-Akhen. The Desert King commander knew the terraces would pose a strong defensive position if garrisoned by trained troops, and ordered his soldiers to dig in and prepare for any High Council or Ulandus counterattack. And one without figures, and at a higher angle: --------------------------------- Hello! Here's my WZ12 entry. Work had me tied up most of this week and I'm away from the bricks for most of the weekend, so this ended up being much more of a rushed build than I had hoped. The terrain could use some finessing in my opinion, especially the rises between the terrace levels. I also had a nice irregular base built for this, but I just couldn't get it to fight in the size limit. Honestly, this one may be a bit over the limit, but I promise by no more than a few studs! Also, forgot to notice that this was a DK vs. U battle until just a few moments ago. Fortunately U and HC came to terms, or those HC troops would look awfully out of place! Anyways, thanks for looking, feedback always appreciated!- 16 replies

[WZ10;DK] Taking Petraea by Storm
MassEditor replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Guilds of Historica
Excellent work here CB, this is a gorgeous depiction of a Kaliphlin city. There are a ton of details to appreciate here, not even sure where to begin! The large building is superb, the roof, columns and stairs give this an excellent Greek style. The fountain is an absolutely brilliant touch, and of course the statues, market area, gate and other little details really bring this to life. I agree that the blue background gives a nice atmosphere. I also think you're right about blue backgrounds aiding with proper lighting when photographing tan. I've used a dark blue background for a lot of my tan builds and it seems to make a nice contrast as opposed to tan against white. I think this build would have benefited from some more landscaping, even if some tan/dark tan for use as sand around the buildings and paths.- 21 replies

Magnificent lighthouse, the colors and pattern are very striking. Nice work on the triangular design of the building, my mind had trouble wrapping around that for a minute! The gold accents and irregular, rock base are wonderful touches. I love the story and I think one of my favorite details is the DK official and lighthouse keeper waving each other off, as if this was the most nonchalant occasion. Brilliant idea, and perfectly executed. That's definitely not an island a captain would want to hit!

Goodness, what a stunning build and presentation! So many details to appreciate here, it's difficult to point them out, but in particular I love the color scheme (the green gives such a nice effect of an old ship rotting on the ocean bottom) the wildlife, pile of coins and overall design of the sunken ship. Such a gorgeous, unique and creative MOC. Excellent stuff!

Excellent counter LordDan! Rockwork and scene looks good.

Aesthetic and elegant build as always SK, a lot of details to appreciate here. The gate looks particularly formidable, and the tan inserted sections of the gatehouse are a great touch. Nice landscaping and figs too! But am I right thinking there's no interior scene here?!

[WZ9: G7 - HC] Cavalry Charge on the Oil Road
MassEditor replied to mrcp6d's topic in Guilds of Historica
Very nice entry into this WZ, this figs, road and landscaping look awesome! -
Sweet looking troop Garmadon! The spears look awesome. Just wondering, if I were to counter this, could I avoid the mirrors and just go with a bigger base? (I was thinking about 24x20, as this is about what the build/mirrors presents ). My wife wouldn't like it if I start ripping mirrors off the walls of our home.

Nocturnus Guild Rakath Mountains Watchtower
MassEditor replied to Dr Rod's topic in Guilds of Historica
Wow, a four-year-old bump here. Haven't seen one of those yet. Definitely a solid build for sure, but for the sake of everyone here, we should probably refrain from bumping ancient topics. It's hard enough keeping track of yesterday's builds, let alone those from last week or four years ago... (Of course, I'm no mod or reg, so take this as you will!) -
Warzone 7: The Second Battle of Queenscross
MassEditor replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
There is a voting thread assembled along with others for the WZ9 and WZ13 challenges - there's been a lot of activity the last week, so it makes sense to wait a bit on the voting threads to give everyone plenty of time to check out the builds before voting starts. Surely in the next couple of days they'll be posted in the forum.- 18 replies

Beautiful build and fantastic story as always, a lot to appreciate in this build! The building looks beautiful, the roof technique and steeples look excellent. The landscaping, color usage and battle posing is good too. My only disappointment is that, with all the green in your build, it doesn't really fit the terrain/style of Queenscross. It just doesn't strike me as Kaliphlin, you know? Still, another solid build from you.

[WZ13, F12: Desert King] A Treacherous Road
MassEditor replied to MassEditor's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks again guys! Haha, I just noticed how similar our two designs were - great minds think alike, eh? Actually, I sat with this in my hands for about a full day trying to come up with something decent. Still, finally had to give up when the deadline began looming. This was certainly the hardest WZ yet for me.- 16 replies

Thanks Marcu, I definitely look forward to your entry! Thanks Garmadon! I really want to try that try design out some more, but believe me, it can be frustrating placing your faith in the strength of 1x2 plates! And I'm glad you agreed on the collateral damage aspect. Thanks again Captain Dee! I have to admit, the lighting effect you talk about was a coincidence. But, know that you say this, I also think it works well for the setting! Thanks BMS! Glad you liked it Dan! Thanks Goliath!

Impressive wagon, I'm sure that'll win the transformable category! Quite the bloody scene too. Good entry!

[G: E3 DK v. HC] Kids Don't Like Speaches!
MassEditor replied to Umbra-Manis's topic in Guilds of Historica
Hilarious build, Umbra, and very clever GA! Love the posing here! -
I have been early anticipating the entries for the Petraea Warzone, and this is exactly why right here! Beautiful work here dG, some incredible architecture and action throughout this wonderful build. I love how it has your style to it while still incorporating a lot of truly Kaliphlin touches. So many details to appreciate here, it's hard to single them out, but the design of the gray house and the stairs are definite highlights. I'll echo Gideon and compliment that middle picture of the street level action, that picture is phenomenal. I have to say, one of my favorite parts of this build is how the DK looks to be wiping the streets clean of the High Council!

[WZ13:F12, High Council] Aymeri's Mobile Fort
MassEditor replied to LittleJohn's topic in Guilds of Historica
Good work on this Warzone, LJ! The mobile fort looks quite formidable, if not a little awkward to operate. That looks like some tough work for those two fellows inside the belly of the beast, easily given the Kaliphlin heat! Still, those DK soldiers look like they have the right idea turning tail and fleeing! -

Wonderful MOC blufiji, gorgeous stuff indeed! The variety and amount of plant life here is incredible and really puts this build on another level. The pillars look fantastic, especially the central one that was placed off angle. Definitely one of my favorites from you, and another great DK entry that will ensure our victory in Petraea! I have to agree with Marcu though that some better lighting would really make this build pop and bring those colors to life. I think photographing this MOC at a lower angle would have looked good too, and given it almost a "street-level" view of the scene. Nevertheless, brilliant work here sir!

Excellent entry Jacob, your poor hands must be worn and sore from all that building last week! Very nice build here and fits the warzone perfectly. The road design is great, and all the other little details really bring this to life - the ditch, little bridge, pallisades and ballista. Fine work on this entry!

[WZ13:F12, Desert King] Cleaning Up the Mess

Sweet entry LordDan! The fire looks fantastic and good work with the busted up wagon. My favorite part though is definitely the dragon flying distantly in the horizon, very nice touch!- 13 replies

[WZ7:E8, High Council] Battle at the Merchant's Arcade
MassEditor replied to Bregir's topic in Guilds of Historica
Great entry Bregir, I really love the inclusion of that garden! The base, architecture and colors all work very well here, and the fighting scenes are done quite nicely. The tan archway is great too, but kind of obscures some of the build and a lot of the action. I would hate to suggest removing it from the build, but I think the whole scene would have a better composition without it. Nonetheless, excellent work here!- 17 replies
