Wow, definitely one of my favorites in this minichallenge. Such pretty landscaping, the snoted portions are brilliant as is the monument. I think the olive-dark-sand green combo was a risky choice but worked out extremely well. This would look beautiful in Avalonia, Mitgardia and Noctunus too. Nice pics too!

Great build and color usage here Dr. Cogg! Love the sand green-ran-gold combo as we'll as the nicely done Elven architecture. Such a great use of space too. Sweet entry!

[WZ11:C4, Desert King] The Wanderer's Grave
MassEditor replied to Jacob Nion's topic in Guilds of Historica
Gorgeous entry, the landscaping is supreme! Between the SNOT landscaping, angled rockwork, elaborate tree and perfect fig posing, it is obvious you have a true talent for packing many wonderful, creative techniques into very small builds. That is one sign of a true moc master imho. Love the story too, you have such an excellent way with words and fantasy storytelling. Again, can't wait to see what happens when we're back to building full time in Nocturnus! -
[WZ11:C4, High Council] Before the Old Gods...
MassEditor replied to Bregir's topic in Guilds of Historica
Lovely entry Bregir! The tree looks fantastic, very clever design. The surrounding foliage is a nice touch and the posing is very good! Superb photography too! One thing to note, however: You're going to need a bigger stick if you plan to keep the DK down! :p- 15 replies

My entry: Liberating Petraea
-
The liberation of Petraea would long be remembered in the historical annals of Kaliphlin. The High Council was the first to violate the capital's neutrality, occupying the city in an attempt to secure its support in the Civil War. As the war raged on, the occupying troops were siphoned off for High Council campaigns in other regions of Kaliphlin. Desert King spies embedded in the city watched closely as the city guard dwindled in number, and informed their masters of the city's growing weakness. They also fomented revolt among the city populace, which wasn't difficult as residents resented their forced involvement in the war. Civil unrest raged in protest of draft orders mandated against the city's male population. Insurrection hit a boiling point after the city's granaries were earmarked by the High Council for its military campaigns. The Desert King's spies knew there would be no better time to strike the city. One quiet evening, the soldiers guarding the city's main gate were bribed into taking an early break. Several sympathetic residents raised the great gate, allowing a large Desert King contingent waiting secretly nearby to enter the city unopposed. By the time the city guard knew the city had been infiltrated, it was far too late. The High Council troops fought with distinction but stood little chance against the numerically superior and seasoned Desert King soldiers. The High Council received no support from the city's residents, who locked their doors to the fleeing soldiers and pointed out High Council strongpoints to the Desert king liberators. When the sun rose the next morning every district of Petraea was under the Desert King's control. Recognizing the city's desire for normalcy, Desert King commanders ordered cart loads of food to be distributed to city residents. Residents who had been forced into the High Council army were released and returned to their families. Damage to the city during the battle had fortunately been light, but Desert King soldiers were quick to help clean the streets and repair people's homes. The battle was declared one of the Desert King's greatest victories, but his commanders knew this action would not be the last conflict Petraea would see in the war. The city had to be held against a High Council counterattack, and there was no doubt that the Ulandians also had their eyes set on the capital. But the Desert King's army had won the hearts and minds of the Petraea's population, and, unlike the High Council, the new occupiers bolstered the city's defenses. With the Desert King in control, Petraea would not fall again. In fact, the city would eventually see a new era of prosperity and serve faithfully as an ally to the Desert King. Desert King troops capture Petraea's administrative district from the High Council: Some close ups of the fighting: A member of the High Council occupational government watches from high up as the Desert King forces capture the city: A soldier waves the Desert King's flag from one of the city's government buildings, signaling the city had been captured: Desert King soldiers hand out food to Petraea residents, while others clean debris and repair damage caused during the fighting: ---------------------------------- Hello again! This is my entry for the WZ10 minichallenge which takes place in Petraea. A very early entry considering the June 1 deadline, but you guys have no idea how glad I am to be finished with this one. I've been working on it very slowly for the past month and a half, mostly because I had to keep stealing parts to use in other civil war builds. Now that you've seen it, I can finally tear it apart for good and use the parts without feeling bad! Anyways, I've been wanting to build a large Kaliphlin urban scene ever since seeing Gideon's wonderful Streets of Barqa MOC, and obviously he is a lot of inspiration behind mine. I tried to stick closely to Ska's description of the city, with the tall buildings and lushness that characterize the city. I might have gone overboard I suppose with the greenery, but I really liked the idea of a major urban center filled with vegetation. Also, I haven't yet chosen a next WZ for this build since whatever I pick may be obsolete by the time the June 1 deadline rolls around. I'll update this post once we get closer to then. I also want to note that I'm as stumped as you may be over why the tan bricks do not have the same hue in the photos I took. I used the same lights and general light direction, so I'm not sure why some of the tan came out more vivid in some pictures than others. Well, thanks for looking and I hope you enjoy! Feedback always appreciated!

Absolutely beautiful entry, Rob! Love the architecture and foliage here, and the landscaping is so unique. Love the look of that dragon head too. First class entry, definitely raises the bar on this minichallenge!

Superb story, I have been absolutely captivated by the appearance of these snow demons and it is relieving to see the story unfurl. Though, I'm left with more questions now than when I started reading this fantastic tale. Also, the build is great and does a very nice job of telling the story - the Algus appearing in the fireplace is brilliantly done. Excellent work here Tomsche!

[CG:O16, U vs. DK] The Desert King EXPOSED!
MassEditor replied to Kai NRG's topic in Guilds of Historica
Brilliant and hilarious counter! -
Thanks everyone for the kind feedback! Haha, it's not the HC that worries us, it's you Ulandian usurpers! Thanks! Awesome to see you back around these parts!

[G:O16, DK vs U] Divination of Ulandus
MassEditor replied to Jacob Nion's topic in Guilds of Historica
Brilliant idea and build, Jacob! The shaping of that beast is top notch, as is the landscaping and water effects - especially how the water is churning as the beast rises from the depths. Also, fantastic poem! -
Absolutely stunning, Emma. I absolutely love the wall design, such elegant shaping and lovely color use. The portcullis looks fantastic as well. I was really hoping to see the Manitcore in one of your builds after the allusion in your WZ5 entry, and you do not disappoint! It certainly looks ferocious, and I love how it appears to be sweeping the walls of defending Ulandians. Excellent work!

[WZ8:L11, Ulandus] Surprise in the Swamp
MassEditor replied to Garmadon's topic in Guilds of Historica
Fantastic work here Garmadon, this and your entry for WZ6 are among my all time favorite builds of yours. Really loving that brickbuilt ship and raft, as well as the swampy environment (great touch with the gator head!). Although dark green would have worked better for the water, it is such an expensive color that it's basically impractical to use it for such a large build. I think the black works well here, especially if this is a night scene. I do a lot of fishing in the nearby swamps, and I have seen areas where the water is as black as coal so, to me, your color choice works great.- 15 replies

Fantastic architecture here, very clean but still works great for a well-maintained war room. The SNOTed portions are very well done, but the lowered floor and the finely designed table certainly steal the show for me. I also think it's very cool that there's not a single stud showing in the entire build.

[WZ7:E8, Desert King] Ghosts of the Bell Gate
MassEditor replied to Lord Vladivus's topic in Guilds of Historica
Wow, fantastic looking figs and battle scene! That bell tower looks great as does the wooden barricade. Seems like the HC doesn't have a chance in this battle! -
Great microcity and landscaping, Kai! Love all the detail in that city. I hate you couldn't get a better FP photo, though the first pic could be improved a little by shooting the city a little more out of focus. Nonetheless, nice build and counter!

[CG: O16 U vs DK] Ancient Power Called Forth
MassEditor replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Fantastic build, excellent work with the jackal's head! Love the elegant design there, and the trans-green parts work wonderfully for the magical effects you convey. The lore is fascinating too, great counter! Glad to see you're jumping into the Ch. IV fray! -
So what? Not sure what blatantly dismissing another builder's idea adds to this conversation - besides your personal opinion, which I do not agree with in the slightest. The point here is making it easier for some to participate, especially when there is so much to build for each and every week. Sure, we see a lot of towers in GoH (and why wouldn't we?) but if it means more participation, I'm all for it. If you don't like it, don't build it - simple as that. Also, just want to note I'm good with whatever Ska feels is right to help balance this competition, if he even has such leanings. I'm just doing this for the fun of building - I'm a Nocty man, and the future of Kalilphlin is really none of my business. Honestly, this is the most fun I've had since I started participating in GoH, and I feel like I've never been pushed to build better than I have in with this challenge. I don't feel as if the DK is being handicapped, and even if it is, it's not going to kill the enjoyment I have to be a part of this fantastic community. Nevertheless, I worry the DK's lack of humility will get the better of us if the HC or Ulandus don't do so first...

VOTING THREAD Warzone 6: Last Stand of the Salamanders
MassEditor replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Man, this was a really tough choice but my vote for best wall is Emma. -
Hellacious build man! The Rat Kingdom shows itself to be a cruel but powerful and long-lived society, perfect for Nocturnus! Great work on this build, especially the angled/SNOT rockwork that makes up the throne. The pile of skulls is wicked but I know from experience that had to be a terribly frustrating task! Man, definitely one of your finest builds yet, glad you joined GoH good sir. Look forward to seeing what ill tides of fate brought about the fall of this rodent empire.

Thanks a lot everyone! Agreed! I think this minichallenge will make for one of the best yet and I assume it's going to be a very tight race. Haha, I had actually thought about how well that rhino would have fit here! Thanks Gideon, I agree wholeheartedly but time was against me on this one. Though I hope this was still a nice change from the worn, mottled walls we see en masse now. A city like Northwall would naturally be very proud of its defenses, and keep them in good shape for perhaps ornamental as well as defensive purposes. Thanks Kai! I had anticipated this response, and looking back I should have gone with an angled design like Emma's sweet entry. But I imagined this gate, like many other castle gates, would be set back within the fortification and be flanked on either side by walls for maximum enfilade fire for the defenders. Also, I saw Northwall's fortification as being a little more decorated than the standard stone wall, plus there was some Avalonian influence and I focused mostly on the more elaborate architecture of Avalonia's elves. If it's the roof over the battlements that throws it off, just know they do a great job of keeping the sun out of the archers' eyes!

[WZ6:B7, Ulandus] Defending Northwall
MassEditor replied to Robin Creations's topic in Guilds of Historica
Beautiful entry Robin Creations! Like others have said, the wall texturing is very well done, and the light bley/tan combo is very aesthetic. The crenallations and landscaping look great as well, and nice job on the irregular border! My only problem is that, considering what we've seen so far from the DK in this challenge, teamwork and tactics are very much a part of the Desert King's success! -
Great counter Bregir, definitely one of my favorites from you in this challenge! This is a massive layout for sure, I love how you stuck to the Eastgate look for that castle wall, and man, the height of that wall is really intimidating! The work scenes are fantastic too, great touch with the surveyor! The log-hammer device and the log wall are great ideas. Excellent entry! I agree with Kai and Gideon on the photography - try a solid, texture-less background and some different lighting and I think you'll get the photos you want!

Great addition to your Tales of the Past, nice story and awesome interior build. The window mosaic and the fig posing are particular highlights. Looking forward to the next addition!
