WIP: Train Tunnel With Modular buildings on top
JopieK replied to Lobo723's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Was it really necessary to revive this 3+ years old thread to say that you came up with the same idea MusicaRibelle?! Don't do that unless you have a very, very good reason other than saying essentially: "great idea". -
Thanks for sharing brick builder711! It think you will need decals / stickers as a final touch! And: Would be nice to see it with your CSX locomotive!

Hi StephenTrains, welcome to Eurobricks! Good that you ask, it is indeed not wise to buy larger amounts from PaB. You could also participate in a LEGO fan group (like eurobricks, but we don't do that yet since we have members that are so widespread) that gets the privilege from LEGO to buy in bulk once a year (e.g. 1000steine / BeLUG, etc). One needs to have patience, but I have e.g. a whole lot of train wheels, track, train base plates, etc. from a previous round (we can't sell it though, that is prohibited and there are more rules, like even if you are member of more clubs you can only take part once a year in total, you cannot talk about the prices, only in a members-only forum, etc). Next round will be end of the year.

That is also my experience, for me the reason that I do not use 12V anymore, switched to 9V and/or PF.

What kind of motor driver do you use? We (students and I) have quite some experience with that, it depends on the actual chip that you use. Will indeed look even better with decals/stickers of course!!!

If you look at the trains from Carl Greatrix (Duq mentioned them), you see that if you are inventive enough, you don't have to 3D print but can make them out of LEGO. My students (uh, actually former students since I now work at another school), made a LEGO trains compatible cover around the color sensors they use under trains. It turned out to be quite difficult even with our own (Felix) 3D printer. The ABS is not as exact as you would think when you print, so if you say 7,75 mm you might get maybe 7,9 mm (or the other way around). Link: Carl Greatrix

So if you try the snot please let us know your experiences, it might be a very good idea!

Degunking battery compartment
JopieK replied to EvilTwin's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I would send them back to LEGO, see what they do with it, normally they have very good support! My brother in law had a Duplo train that had fallen into a bucket of water, LEGO replaced it (and he was honest enough to mention exactly what happened). -
Very nice, both the inside and outside capture the bus very well!

Is he Dutch or Australian... I'm getting a bit confused by the Kickstarter. B.t.w. I think it is a great project, the EV3 sets are way too expensive for education. In my former school (I'm a tech / Informatics teacher), we had three, for the three FLL teams, but we could never have afforded upgrading our old NXT's to EV's in CS class.

Back in the 12V days there even was a special wheel that fitted that middle hole on every motor.

Wow that was a great find! Nice job Carrera, I think you have a piece of gold there!!! You could write a set review of course (even officially through the academy).

Very nice job legoman666! I like it that you keep the train as narrow as possible while keeping the features.

SBrick makes your trains smarter - Kickstarter
JopieK replied to pasztorl's topic in LEGO Train Tech
It still is a large challenge to control LEGO trains: it is not only the hardware, but also the rest that comes with it. I have quite a lot of experience with automating LEGO trains and all concepts that I tried have their disadvantages. Routing trains is the most problematic part, that is what DCC for model trains is very good for, but my experiments with DCC for LEGO trains were not pleasing me either. In my opinion IR sensors aren't that great, I have done quite some tests with them, reed sensors (see the current RailBricks issue), are much, much better: more reliable and easier to use and hide. -
Works very well! I think the army version is the nicest!

Cracking/Crumbling 9v Transformer to Track Wire?
JopieK replied to Rail Co's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I think what zephyr1934 says is the best option (actually are the best two options)! -
SBrick makes your trains smarter - Kickstarter
JopieK replied to pasztorl's topic in LEGO Train Tech
The BLE chip is already about 10€ in large quantities, so if you also need to make a housing, motor drivers, etc. it will be impossible to sell it for under 30€ I think. -
Cracking/Crumbling 9v Transformer to Track Wire?
JopieK replied to Rail Co's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Maybe you can share an image, that way we can even better understand the exact problem and might be able to help out! -
you are totally right on both remarks, we will just have to wait!

Welcome to Eurobricks Bran_, hope you will get over it soon with the help of all the other AFOLs here :)

it seems LEGO designers are visiting Eurobricks too often ;) http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=89264 And even a better one at flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/28901644@N05/11211291953/in/gallery-akunthita-72157627713023124/

Check for (micro) cracks I would suggest. If that is the cause, you could use bricklink to replace the bricks that have the issue.

So that is a 4 DOF robotic arm! Nice job!
