It is very doable: use an IR LED in one hole and an IR transistor in the other and voila you have your sensor :) B.t.w. posting a link that is an addition to the discussion is always very welcomed! One advance of using an IR sensor is that it could also be used to send IR commands. I have also ones done some experiments with putting IR SMD leds beneath the tracks. If one would put an IR receiver underneath the train, it can be used as a signal (LED's on -> train stops e.g.).

Very nice church! Simple but very effective. Did you also do the inside a bit?

One of many things that LEGO and Apple have in common :)

Wonderful Michael!!! I also like the idea to put the sleepers a bit further from eachother. I computed the amount of 1x1 brown tiles for my (exhibition) layout and they were: tile 1x1 (16 per rail) 2337x tile 1x4 (8 per rail) 1107x That is not even for a large layout you know ;)

Very nice nemo! Good to see that you also found a way to resize them :) The LEGO truck is also a very good find!

Very nice work! Brick-on dr_spock! If you position the reed sensor very well it works every time, again and again as you can well see :)

Very interesting built!!! Thanks for sharing! Are you going to build it?!

The machines are very expansive (at least if they use UV machines), so they need to gain it back one way or the other. A sticker printer that we have is already € 16.000, but the same idea in UV costs about € 40.000 so I'm afraid that it will always be quite costly.

TRAXX as in the new NS livery? Just today I came by Haarlem and saw they are revising the old former Benelux trains to become the new Fyra (better name would be: Phoenix ).

Apart from the remark by dr_spock: file:///Users/enzoboselli/Documents/Eliott/lego%20red%20train%20back%20loco.gif this points to a file on your Mac ;) you should upload it to brickshelf or some other host.

Bluetooth controlled sound on a bluetooth controlled train!
JopieK replied to legoman666's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Great job legman666, what kind of module did you use for it? The train indeed drives very well at such a slow speeds, very realistic. -
Yups I also have some "Erdinger" beer wagons ;)

Nice job! I like your catenary! Keep on LEGO train-ing ;) -
From the "Reglement_BM_Limburg_2015_NL.pdf" English translation: It is only permitted to exhibit creations that are compliment with the ethics of LEGO. Specifically, this means that the creations should not contain: - The use of drugs, tobacco, alcoholic beverages - Sexual acts - Realistic or extreme violence (end of Brickarms?!) - Political and /-or beliefs or insults thereof - Items that are meant to shock or offend people - Creations that incitement to violence or racist behavior I saw that humor - fortunately - is not in this list. I now remember where that was banned: for the LEGO store Wijnegem small exposition site. I like to include humor, like a baker that pursues a 'thief' with a rolling pin held high, putting a ghost somewhere unexpected (or a skeleton). That is what kids love at events :) While I understand part of these rules, the will lead to problems: we have displayed an Uncle Tom's Cabin scene in Belgium some years ago. That is a political statement of course, but one could perceive it as a racist build (not my friend from Haiti who is currently helping me with our newest town, but anyway). Also the ban on alcoholic beverages is quite strange. We have a beer factory for example, misuse of beer / alcohol is not ok, but it goes quite far to ban the use of alcoholic brands. Last week I was in an 'open air' museum with my nieces and two young friends and there was also an interesting old brewery, they only gave me a sample, that is the correct line I think, but not being able o build a brewery seems somewhat radical: then again, why drugs / tobacco / alcohol and why not suger / ice / candy?!! That is a much larger threat for kids I would think. Same with beliefs, if one builds a church or a mosque that is about religion but unless you build an IS scene / concentration camp, that seems to be quite ok I would think?!! Star wars is essentially also quite religious... There is even a religion of "the force" afaik. Anyway, as long as you don't put beer barrels on your train you are safe I guess ;)

The reed sensors will also detect the PF motors :) I also program emergency stops, you just make a for loop and fire a stop command at each channel / color. @dr_spock: it is better to try to avoid delay statements since they will essentially block your entire Arduino loop and then you can't react to input changes anymore (unless you use interrupts). An other advice is to use state machines. They are a kind of design pattern that will really help to understand how the states of your own system works. I'll try to add my own code to github in af few days/weeks to give an idea how to do that (I teach programming basics also embedded programming to sophomores in college ;))

Really great michaelozzie! Your wallet might not be pleased with it though ;) Maybe you could later add some humor to make it even more vivid!!! Although I saw in the rules of BeLUG that humor was forbidden (with a long list of other things including religion and spirits/beer). Fortunately my wife has the largest LEGO buildings (large technic and modular haha :)), but the principle sounds very familiar to a lot of us I think.

Arduino is a software + hardware platform (open source) around mostly Atmel Microcontrollers. A microcontroller is a computer in a chip (it has a processor, internal and 'external' memory to run programs etc.). I'm working on a transfer table that uses Arduino with PF compatibility right now :) Since it is a little and inexpensive computer you can program stuff in it to control your house, a robot or your LEGO. In some Railbricks there are tutorials of how to do this (I wrote them). p.s. although the glass reed sensors are less expensive, better try to use these: http://www2.mouser.c...cs/Hamlin-MDSR/

Interesting that the USSR also had their own fake LEGO! So you mainly are into Technic? My wife too, I enjoy technic, but being an engineer I love city / trains even better (keeping work and hobby a little bit apart ;)). Is it nowadays easier to get LEGO in Russia?

I also use Bluebrick. Unfortunately it is Windows-only. There are other options though like AnyRail, but bluebrick is the most straightforward.

Very nice job! Based on what original (large) train or is it eve your own design?!

I asked the root admin to have a look at it Gremer! I'm not powerful enough afaik.

I would appreciate it if you not only say three words in capitals to such a nice MOC's but behave like everyone else in here, now it is looking like you want to speed up your post count. Enjoy you stay and read the rules! @SuRrEaLNJ: Very nice job indeed! I'm looking forward to the end result!

Hi Pott E Giraffe, welcome to Eurobricks. Be sure to read the rules, we want to keep this a neat and tidy place that everyone with a heart for LEGO enjoys. Note: you can only join if you are an adult. He came... and... went away again.

I'll try to get the 4000007 too PastVPresent, they aren't that difficult, dark red is probably the hardest part to get right :) Looks very good!!! Such a 'rare' sets are very fun to have (I also like things like Tine / MD / Arla).
