  1. @verybricks Great to have you in! Monorails always have been one of my favorites! Of course we have the brick-built solutions nowadays but those sets from the ninetieth are just awesome!
  2. The idea is great of course. Maybe make a custom keyboard to really fit (see e.g. Adafruit).
  3. Welcome to Eurobricks @LBRICK. Would be nice to be able to attend. I saw most of the video reports from Grimmona over at 1000steine and they are really great.
  4. @Stranky: Welcome James! Great to have you here. @zephyr1934 I (re)pinned it. Seems to be some technical issue that unpins certain topics.
  5. @Murdoch17 you are right, @BERKO, welcome to Eurobricks and Train tech, but indeed it is tricky. But after 10 posts you can PM and that is much easier, but Zanthara hasn't been here for a while as you already heard from Murdoch. Apart from that: why don't you start your own topic and try and rebuild the design and get feedback from the other members! You learn a lot from it!
  6. Nice topic. I experimented with DCC in the past (with an Intellibox). I must say it has been a while and since then I learned a lot about microcontrollers etc.
  7. Very nice idea(s), I have not bought it yet, but it is high on my wishlist and I totally agree it can be improved. I must say, seeing the real thing in a LEGO store made me more enthusiastic about it than from the site/images, but your suggestions make it even more desirable.
  8. Well it comes (let me rephrase: should come) with the job. Definitely not easy. It is also very difficult to interpret emotions in general but especially online, behind a forum or worse a Twitter post or something. I learned the hard way (after working in secondary and higher education for about 18 years) that sometimes it is better to use a different medium, that is of course not feasible for most of us here, but when you have a discussion online it is much easier to be harsh even if that is not what you mean. I see the same on e.g. Stackoverflow or the Arduino forum, especially for newbies more experiences users might be inclined to be harsh. Maybe you have also noticed that if you google for something you quite often get some post of a person with the same problem but the reaction on it was: "use Google you moron" (hmm, I just did and found your not so friendly advice...). @davejsp: Toestie is right, don't get discouraged by negative feedback, I get negative feedback all the time and yet I move forward. Sometimes I use the negative feedback to improve, keep your goal in mind and focus on the positive feedback. LEGO is supposed to be a hobby, people like you give away a lot. A well-known philosophical thinker (who is much more to quite a lot of people around the world, part of my teaching passion comes from him) said: "It is better to give than to receive" and that is exactly what you did. Great built, great instructions, even a video, all the work in the rendering, building, video editing, etc and you do not keep it for yourself but share it with the rest of the world. But apart from that, @markaus: I think if you leave comments try to give maybe give a tip and a top. Great to have you here at Eurobricks but please keep it a great place to enjoy you hobby with fellow AFOL's. Also consider reading the rules once again: you should have know that we also value interpunction, capitalization, etc: you must have forgotten to apply that rule. No problem, but just a reminder that if you set high standards for others, you'd better also apply these (or even higher) standards to yourself as well. Remember: "Det bedste er ikke for godt". Of course EB wouldn't be EB if it did not have a topic on it: https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/48551-det-bedste-er-ikke-for-godt/, If you keep that in mind for yourself and share your works like @davejsp than Eurobricks will continue to be a nice and friendly place.
  9. Splendid idea! Would arguably be better to rename it to something more neutral indeed.
  10. Great tutorial-style post @Yoggington. Those rounded plates are really really handy for such and many other Train and non-Train applications!
  11. Amazing: how did you cram in al those motors in such a small build?! Nice functions, and stunning look.

Welcome @Constantin Sonts: enjoy you stay at Eurobricks!
  13. Welcome @_Avgvstvs_, enjoy your stay. Please also read the rules to keep Eurobricks a nice and tidy place :)
  14. I don't agree with you: believe me, LEGO will also use Ideas to see where market potential lies. That does by no means mean they will allow Ideas train sets, but still they will carefully monitor and notice what kind of projects get 10k support, so even if it is indirect it WILL have an impact on their decisions on train sets. @Toastie: Haha, well maybe you could convince them that the costs of a shrink are probably higher than some LEGO sets/parts ;)
  15. Welcome to Eurobricks Chris! Enjoy your stay and indeed make sure the 'dark ages' are finally a thing from the past ;)
  16. Well we can / will / do customize it can't we? We only need great parts and arguably even though there are becoming more interesting parts from a train perspective, we could do with much more useful parts so we don't need our 3D printer to provide us with e.g. driving rods (even though people like @zephyr1934 make nice parts for trains too of course).
  17. McWaffel: they might not release it as Ideas but it will be important as it will remind them time and again that there is continuing potential for trains. Also this competition is healthy as it further points out that the Train potential. I don't think there are really great high quality replacements for the real deal though so that is a pity.
  18. Well we don't know anything officially yet, so it is just rumors. I don't see LEGO discontinuing trains. There is a substantial amount of train-related Ideas that get 10k votes so there is enough potential, but trains have to compete with quite some other themes of course and that is a serious issue, the 12V days won't come back very soon with the wealth of different sets / turnouts / combinations. LEGO could make more money if they would make things much more modular like in those days. I think they did a great job with Animal Rescue there, if start to buy a single set you really want them all (at least I fell for it even though my LEGO budget is quite limited and is shared with my wife who likes the large Technic sets that are quite costly...).
  19. You can also use some 3 Degrees of Freedom structure like this (many more possibilities depending on your needs): You can now move the blue part up and down and rotate it around the pole and use the green part to rotate the shovel itself independently (so 3 degrees of freedom, you could add even more of course).
  20. Welcome Toby, enjoy your stay!
  21. Maybe an human error? Don't think it should have been unpinned: I pinned it again. Thanks!
  22. I always wanted to have one as a kid. When I was able to buy it as an AFOL I was a little disappointed that it did not work as well as I had imagined as a child, but still it was a great little set, especially with the nice little signal etc. Apart from that: great that you bought the set and were bold enough to open it!!!
  23. It wasn't unexpected but it is still a pity. I now know how to use Studio and switched over to it, but I have used it for years now.
  24. In LEGO store Oberhausen I did not see the trains anymore last week... Well, we'll just see.
  25. Hmm interesting. So from 2 trains they scale down to one train? Hope we will get a second one in another line at least. Passenger + cargo has always been a 'standard' also in Duplo.
