Heroica: Glory Amongst The Stars RPG - Game Development
KotZ replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in Heroica! The RPG!
Some thoughts/additions I've had from WBD's post about proficiences. Level of Proficiency: I-IV, each level makes character more, well, skilled. Has a better chance of success with that proficiency in actions. So everyone can do everything, but if you want to have an edge, spec into a proficiency. Ex. Non medics/clerics can attempt to heal an ally, but they might have a 15% chance of success. Medic/Cleric I has 25%, and up and up until Medic/Cleric IV has close to 100%. We could also make the proficiencies cost more on each level. This would eliminate specific classes (do we want that?), but allow everyone to try different things. This could carry over to basically any proficiency like engineering, hacking, shooting, piloting, etc. And if the game runs for a long period of time, possibly higher levels could be added? Now since classes could be removed, that might eliminate Guild/Faction classes. Instead, perhaps reputation or completed quests with them result in an unlocked proficiency tree. For example, the Bonaparte faction skill you could unlock might be Navigation. Once you unlock that tree, even if you don’t start speccing it, you have it, even if you lose rep. This allows players to use abilities they’ve learned even if they make a character choice that goes opposite of former employers. The problem with Heroica’s class system could be fixed with this idea. Now, what if you receive a sweet helmet from Faction A, but then they end up hating you? Maybe we faction-lock equipment. Another idea could be no faction-locks, but if you’re wearing their gear and they see you, you could be fined, attacked, etc. Though that seems more of a quest-by-quest basis. Just spittballing here. We could also proficiency lock equipment as well, making it where anyone can use any weapon, but as the game goes on, say you need to be Long Range Weapon Level III or above to use a specific gun. Thoughts? -

Not sure if anyone else would want to, but I'd love to get this ball rolling again, even if it's just super minor things. -
The Forest 3 Mafia Sign-Up Thread
KotZ replied to Hinckley's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
1. Have you played a Mafia game before? I don't know, have I? 2. Are you available to post at least once every three days for the next 4-5 weeks? Yes. 3. Are you willing to play an anonymous game with no PMs? Well, we've never had a Prime Minister before so, sure I'm willing. -
So some more building occured over the past few days. A bit more tan and sand green have been added, and the great hall is now say maybe halfway done. Ignore that gaping hole, it's to save on bricks. I've been able to keep the supoort with the 2x6s. I accidentally made the walls 2 studs longer now, but oh well. M<ore rock work needs to be added, but the base is relatively secure. As you see, the floor fell in. I need to add some structural beams to make sure that doesn't happen during the rest of the build. I've added what will be the beginning of a tiny bridge to connect the great hall to the rest of the main keep. Below it will probably be rockwork and a footpath. Once again, ignore the hole. The wall will be connecting there, and it's to save on pieces. Overall, I'm happy with the progress so far.

Great game, Bob! Loved having the anonymous element back for this. I was a terrible investigator, and great job scum!
-
I added some tan so far (I'll have an update tonight), and it's definitely looking better and not so grey. I might make a round tower inside the walls if I can find the real estate for it.
-
So I have (slowly) begun working on a castle, the Castle of Syndrifel. I started on the great hall and kitchen, because let's be honest, even minifigures get hungry. After building the great hall, I began to realize just how big this thing will be. I'm planning on building it in modular secutions due to the real estate it will take up. Do the colors look ok? Too much dark grey? Etc. The first two photos are the great hall and kitchen, sans furniture for the most part. A minifigure is there for scale. The white arch there is also just a place holder, as are the transparent bricks behind the royal table. Some furniture I've been working on. The far left might be counters, but I'm really not fans. The middle tan and black will probably be shelves and tables in the kitchen. Far right are 99% sure to be benches. Should I start building from the ground up? Right now I have ane idea of the walls. Ignore the white bricks, they're place holders, as are the full on dark gray. I'm thinking 12x12 for the towers, aside from the main gaates which might be 12x14 or something to give a bit more room. The center 4x4 will be filled in as well. I have six of those built, which are the amount of towers I plan on building.

[OL - A-MCRA] Travels to Terraversa
KotZ replied to Captain Genaro's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Emile, the Huntress, and a RNTC soldier made their way to the catacombs where the Quiver was rumored to be held. "Let's all be careful, alright?" Emile said. It took some force to break the door, but they managed. The guard went in first. Oh no! The poor man stepped on a trigger, activating a hidden spear meant to guard the catacombs. The spear impaled him through his back, killing him. He gurgled out some blood. Emile and the Huntress carefully made their way around him. They scoured the catacombs, but could not find the Quiver. That is, until the Huntress started studying a skeleton. She noticed there was something attached to the skeleton's arm; she moved it. CREEEEK! A wall in the catacombs slid aside, revealing a secret chamber. "After you," The Huntress instructed Emile. "Ladies first," Emile responded. "Scared of another trap?" Emile gave her a quick glare, but then made his way in. "There it is," Emile whispered. He grinned. They had found it. NOTE: the builds are 8x16, 16x16, and 16x32, staying within the 32x32 maximum footprint for this build. -
Toa Visorath, member of the Toa team you call in when everything has gone sideways. Got too much Rahi? Call in Visorath and the other Toa on his team, they'll handle it. Some Piraka on the loose? Bring in Visorath and the gang. Visorath wears an Akaku Nuva, as it allows him to see farther and with X-ray, even with his elemental rifle. Those wings help him soar to heights to get the advantage or to avoid rahi, makuta, or other enemies when things get dicey. Mainly he uses them to get to a nice perch to look over his other teammates, or shoot at enemies. "Do I feel lucky?" I'm sad LDD doesn't have better/more Bionicle pieces,. The rifle is a modified version of this one.

Prize B has arrived in CA. Thanks for this, CopMike!

I didn't buy it, but my girlfriend bought 11002 for Valentine's Day and built a heart for each of us, and gifted me the rest of the bricks. I'm pretty lucky she can understand my LEGO addiction and even went to a LEGO Pop Up with me last week.

This is fantastic! There's so much to look at. I love the tiles you used for the wood floors. I just realized you used arches for the red ground floor stairs. Clever!

Ah ok, cool.

So I just saw TLG posted some Ninjago posters on their FaceBook page with the caption "Endings will always come... all we can do is fight to make them good ones." Is this the final year for Ninjago? Sorry if this has been mentioned before.
-
Somewhat related, but I went to TLM2 Pop-Up in Hollywood today. It was really cool, especially after seeing the film to pick out some quotes and a few minor characters that appear.

This is looking great so far! The red is really helping it pop and not be one large, grey structure. -
Eh it happens. You want to see really scummy play? Look at the Mad Monster mafia Kinto hosted. That whole scum team was super scummy. At the risk of quoting that godawful meme "That's how mafia works." I think if you didn't let them get to you, you would've faired much better. Also, I loved you roleplaying. I'm a sucker for when people really get into their characters be it from what the host sent or just making a fun character quirk up. If you ever do come back to play, I'm definitely giving you a spot with a fun character. Yup, that was me and DarkDragon. Yeah, Kwatchi (and the scum overall) played a very good game. When was the last scum sweep? As for you investigating a town person every night, that's also sometimes valid. You were really hampered by the terrible night 1, you being blocked and the vig dying. If the town didn't lose those two power roles right away, I think you would've had some more fun. Yeah, I don't know how you got skipped over with that scummy gameplay. Below are my thoughts. Overall, the game ran very smoothly. Much more so than Brickywood (sorry Shadows about that mess), and that one wasn't too messy in the end. I got this idea as in the first index there was a list of games that were coming soon, and I remember years and years ago there was supposed to be a 24-themed one, I think by Rick, but that never came to fruition. So I guess I kinda ran with it after messaging Dragonator about it. With how Brickywood went (that game's length was definitely an outlier), I almost wanted this game to get right down to the wire where it does take "24 hours" to finish the game, be it for scum or town. I also tried to keep this game as apolitical as possible. While 24 is very American, I know EB is a worldwide usergroup, and 24 when it aired had many criticisms for how it portrayed people, torture etc. So I tried to LEGO-ize it like the LEGO video games while still being "mature" for the setting and EB's generally adult forum. I think that went really well. I'm a big fan of 24 (as I noticed mostyltechnic was), so I tried to throw in some events/references from the show while alsonot alienating the players who may have never seen the show. I knew from the beginning I wanted Jack's hacksaw line, katana kill, and his rampage at the end. But dear lord is making mafia in LDD a nightmare. That was the most annoying part of running this game. Next I feel like I need to address the situation of a player seemingly giving up on Day 2 for the second game in a row. Jamesn, please do not think I blame you or think bad of you. In fact, you had me dying with laughter every time you posted in character. But I totally understand what happened. You haven't played EB mafia in awhile, and it has a very specific meta (which was discussed in other threads) for better or worse. I think you were harped on because of your playstyle and being almost a newbie again as people haven't adjusted to your playstyle. Example, Lady K (to me) always plays scummy no matter what role she is. Shadows is always investigated or killed the first night because of how long he's been playing these games. There is unfortunately no 100% foolproof way to stop the metagame aside from anonymous games, and that would be taxing for every single game. It's been discussed in the discussion thread and such that maybe we need to do an anonymous game again (I would love that, Harriet Slutter was way too much fun and I really want Harriet Slutter 2 as well). That can definitely fix the issue. I do think the EB playerbase is pretty welcoming to newcomers (look at Asphalt) but we do have problems (in the past I'm sure I've been guilty) when it comes to voting out newbies so the vets can have their fun. Unless you're Shadows; then we just kill you. Please don't think I'm trying to kick the can down the road because I don't have a great solution toi this issue. It's something I think we as a community need to come up with. One suggestion I've just had the idea for is more playing into the character traits. I keep going back to Harriet Slutter (sue me), but that game had each individual character having a unique character trait to play each day. If there was something like that in each game, that could maybe help fix the meta. With whacky, serious, realistic, unrealistic, etc traits, it could help balance the game for newbies. But that's also because I love when players get into their roles. It might not work, but that's just a thought I have right now. As a side thought, I think the forum would do good to have more games, not just mafia. We used to have mystery games a looooong time back. I never ran one, never played one, heck never even really read them. That being said, I think it would do people good (vets and newcomers) if we expanded back into various game types, as it would help the newcomers "gain cred" and hopefully reduce overall meta. Now on to the roles. Part of me wonders if I made the scum team too powerful, or if I put just too many PRs in the game (although like a third of them felt like they never got to be used). I'm still struggling to get the balance right in these games. Jason White/Kintobor - Yeah, you were really scummy this game and I'm surprised you escaped a lot of scrutiny. You're consistently a good player and host so there's maybe not much more for me to add. Wilson Goddard/Asphalt - Great job in your second game. I'm surprised some people didn't pick up on you. Agent Moore/Kwatchi - Is this your first game in awhile? Either way very good job. Some people were fingering you but you always evaded them. You also had some good rolecop targets. That being said, the night you rolecopped jluck, you should have died. Luckily for you jluck was blocked. Alfred Drew/Zepher - An incredibly well done job. While not the godfather, you really led the scum team to victory. I'm glad I've been able to host you in your previous two games Kaster/Lady K - you seemed really quiet this game, although I know you mentioned you were sick. I wish you got to use your gladiator role, as I think I've still been th only person on EB to activate that ability. Dr. James/Tariq J - You were also seemingly quiet this game, and I was hoping you'd use your commuter ability. Riley Marshall/jluck - Like the previous two players, I really wanted your ability to activate, as it definitely would have caused confusion for both sides. Barry Andropov/Kristel - I think we've played together years ago, and I think you did alright for the like two days you were able to play. Your death really hurt the town. Sen. Greene/Khscarymovie4 - You were (un)lucky with your targets. I loved your reasonings and thoughts you put in your PMs to me. I also noticed after you investigated Bob you seemed to try to ping him with calling him to be your running mate in the thread. That was intentional, I'm guessing? Diane Greene/fhomess - Very nice run for vanilla, but the tide was turned against you. Zip/mostlytechnic - Similar to fhomess Benson/LMF - I think in the thread you did alright, but unfortunately you targeted all the wrong people with your actions. But hey, it happens. You win some you lose some. Officer Skinner/mediumsnowman - Sadly you were killed too early for my preference. Of course as vig mkilling night 1 isn't always advised, but I would love to know who you would target if you did. Your death hampered the town badly. Officer LEwis/jamesn - Basically my entire thoughts regarding the metagaming and such are my comments about you. You didn't necessarily do anything wrong (I'd love for you to play again). I think you were a bit off in some of your suspicions, but your RP was gold. Bob/Bob - I had to make you Bob. Maybe I've forgot your game, but you were really off this time, going after the wrong people. That being said, I would gladly host and play with all of you again (duh).

Your last game was Brickywood in 2017.

Previously on 24 Mafia... The late senator's wife was crying about her husband and her recent lynch as Jack and Chloe discussed their findings on her in whispers. Bob was mopping the blood off the floor from a recently dead person in the armory. And then he heard the door. "Ah. Crap." And Bob the janitor was no more. Towards the bottom of the hour, Chloe found the dead janitor. At the top of the new hour, Chloe addressed the group. "I have no idea where Jack is, so I'll address everyone. Since Ms. Greene's husband was just, well, axed, and she's been lynched, I'm having to escort her from the building even though we did find her to be CTU (Town). It's just for your own safety. I also found Bob's corpse in the armory. Afteranalyzing him, I found he also was CTU (Town). So what's going on here?" "I'll tell you!" It was Jason White (Kintobor). He pulled out a gun, as did his other Moles (Scum), Agent Moore (Kwatchi), Wilson Goddard (Asphalt), and Alfred Drew (Zepher). "See, CTU is ours now. We've won." Then, bullets started flying their way. Everyone turned to look where the bullets came from. It was an armed figure, decked out in super sweet gear. "That's Jack Bauer!" Alfred shouted. Jack and the Moles quickly exhanged fire, but White moved to Chloe, putting his gun to her head. "Put your weapons down, Jack! Otherwise I'll shoot your only friend left! You're outgunned, don't do anything stupid." Reluctantly, Jack put down his weapons and surrendered CTU to the Moles. Thank you to everyone for playing, and congratulations to our Moles (Scum) winners, Jason White (Kintobor), Agent Moore (Kwatchi), Wilson Goddard (Asphalt), and Alfred Drew (Zepher)!
