2014 - Best and Biggest LEGO Year Ever?
Artifex replied to TheBrickPal's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Biggest year for sure (so far, that is! Lets hope for an even better 2015, 16 and beyond! ), but if it's the best or not I think is a matter of individual opinion. I'd love to see some castle sets, for instance. But not related to the Movie or to the last Castle line. Something more akin to Kingdoms or to the old Castle themes (Black Falcons, Forestmen, etc.). Also, I miss Pirates and Space sets (again, not related to the Movie). But that's just me. -
Just watched The Wolf of Wall Street and American Hustle. American Hustler is my new #2 (NOTHING beats giant robts fighting giant monsters! ). The Wolf of Wall Street is #3.

My top 5 list: 1. Pacific Rim 2. The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug 3. Thor: The Dark World 4. Iron Man 3 5. Wolverine: Immortal 6. Top Gun 3D (sorry, but this one HAS to be on my list, and NOT because of the 3D effects!) And that's about it for me. I didn't get to see that many new movies these past year so much as I watched good, old movies. I did see more than 5 2013 movies, but I just didn't like them that much. I still have to watch Star Trek: Into Darkness, Oblivion, Gravity, The Wolf of Wall Street and some others I didn't get to see yet. Anyway, this is my 2013 Worst Movie List: 1. Jobs 2. Man of Steel (these first two actually made the cut to my worst movies ever list) 3. GIJoe Retaliation (I'm a GIJoe fan and I think this movies is just an awesome piece of crap) 4. Bling Ring 5. The Hangover III

I'd love if Lego had a GI Joe theme. Although the MB GI Joe look very cute, I can't make myself by them =( But I know I will. I guess my love for GI Joe is stronger.

Should Lego sets have the designer's names printed on them?
Artifex replied to TeufelHund's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think the name of each set designer(s) should be printed on the set manual. -

Wow, some nice sets in this theme! -
Pics for City, Friends and Star Wars are out... No news about Castle 2014?
-
What a big let down. I don't plan to spend any money on those "sets" -- if you can call them that. Because lets face it: it's a doorway, another doorway and then a wall. The wall has got a missile o it! (A missile, really? really, Lego? ). The figures are ok, but I guess I'll just save my money for next year Castle. I'm still hoping for that Black Falcons, Forestmen and Wolfpack comeback.

I believe you are really missing the point here, Renegade Clone -- Jabba's throne room and throne dais, for what they are worth, are all about Slave Leia. There's no reason to try and give attention to what is no more than mere details. Just kidding , I love the design. Adds a lot of life to Jabba. The cape use was very ingenious. The build looks very clean. Very nice design

I was wondering... What do you like best: A "generic" castle line or a theme-specific one? By "generic" I mean something like the current one: We get factions with soldiers, knights, kings and wizards, but no names. A specific one brings characters like Vladek, Cedric, the Bull, Basil, the Bat Lord, Jayko and even a kingdom like Morcia. I guess in the long run it doesn't really makes much of a difference for AFOLS, because most people only want nice-looking sets for display, or plenty of parts for MOCing. But specific themes do give us some exclusive minifigures, isn't it? I don't know about you, but I like to have some kind of background story for each MOC: "These are the ruins of the ancient tower of Lasagabaster, the Mage, in the middle of the Dark Forest where lies the Sword of King Valéryon" or something like that. Maybe that's just me, but I like to believe there's a storyteller in each one of us

Well, part of the MMV is there in that poster... So we can hope for the best. *crosses fingers* Poster But if I get this correctly, the game is based on existing minifigures, not the other way around. I guess that doesn't mean will see any minifigures -- or sets -- based on the game. P.S.: Here's the trailer --

[Request] Pics of King's Castle 7946 and 70404 side by side
Artifex replied to Artifex's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Thanks again, WallyTheCat! Nice comparison of the towers there! Thanks a lot! -
I've seen a topic like this in practically every subforum but Historic Themes, so I decided it was time to have the conversation going. What do you think is in store for Castle in 2014? I think we'll probably get a couple of civilian sets (a blacksmith will be likely...) and a couple of faction sets (another Dragon Knights small fortress, I'm betting). Then we'll probably get a Castle Chess Set and maybe an exclusive set (like Kingdoms Joust) by the end of 2014/beginning of 2015. If there's an exclusive set, I bet it will include civilian buildings in the lines of the MMV. But that's for 2015; lets keep that talk for next year . What I truly wish is that Lego would give us Kingdoms back, although I know that's not the usual policy. I'd love to see a Forestmen or a Black Falcons come back, but I'd not like to see them as part of the current Castle line (just because I don't like the new Castle heraldry and I'm afraid they would ruin the Black Falcon's Black Falcon ). I truly wish we could have a nice Kingdoms Lion Knights come back, preferably fighting the Black Falcons (maybe as true enemies, maybe like friendly competitors sometimes), with the Forestmen right there in the middle (fighting for the civilians) and (why not?) the Wolfpack sneaking around and taking advantage of the situation (the only true "evil" faction).

[Request] Pics of King's Castle 7946 and 70404 side by side
Artifex replied to Artifex's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Thanks for the pics, WallyTheCat! Nothing to worry about lighting -- the pics are very clear. Although I like the size of 70404 better, 7946 is my favorite. The design is just better, I guess. Not that 70404 is poor or anything, it's just that 7946 looks better overall (to my taste, that is). It's got more details too (although the stickers make a lot of difference, giving 7946 a much more detailed look). 70404 looks a bit blocky in comparison. I was surprised that the walls are the same height, for I thought they would be 1 brick shorter -- I had forgotten all about the brick over the panel walls in 7946. Thanks again for the pics, WallyTheCat! Your comparison pics were very enlightening  PS: Anything you want to add about the towers or the gatehouses? -
I hope we get a Lego Store down here in Brazil someday. I woudn't mind NOT having a Lego store in Brazil if S@H would sell/ship to Brazil.

[Request] Pics of King's Castle 7946 and 70404 side by side
Artifex replied to Artifex's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Thanks for the pics, Sigolf Brimabane, but I was thinking of something more akin to the Star Wars comparison thread -- with walls and towers and gatehouses side by side. But thanks a lot for posting those pics! -
Helm's Deep hands up. Closely followed by Uruk-hai army. Although they do look awesome, I'm not really into the LotR minifigs, so the "minifig sets" are not that important to me. But the sets... Wow, Helm's Deep is fantastic. And the wall from the Uruk-hai Army set just makes it better!
