  1. I'm not really a fan of the looks, including the colors, but I do like how the stabilizers are built. They use the new rack and rack holder part (or boom piece or telescoping piece or whatever it's called). The racks extend downward and swivel out at the same time. This how many real stabilizers work, and I don't know that I've ever seen this done in Lego before. I am curious how the drivetrain is built. This would appear to be quite a heavy model, and it will be interesting to see how Lego deals with motor placement, u-joint design, and hub design. Perhaps we will see some new drivetrain components in the set. Man I am really not a fan of the yellow rims, and they should really be black or red. Pretty scrappy looking crane arm too. The entire body looks like it's made from about five or six different pieces.
  2. Very nice grader! I've been building a grader off and on for three years or so, and they are a challenge to build. There is very little room for anything. i see you have 10 functions. How are you controlling them? Do you have a mix of PF and manual control? It's always nice to see a grader built.
  3. BrickCon is over, and nothing was revealed.
  4. Most of those sets look a bit kiddish and functionless, but I do really like the BMW motorcycle, and the plane isn't bad. The plane does seem a bit dissproportional and would've benefited from a set of canards, but I am a sucker for aviation related sets, so it's always nice to see another.
  5. Yup, you're right, and I should've been more clear. Volvo group no longer produces motor graders and backhoes under the Volvo name, but do under the SDLG name. I would love to see a motor grader or another backhoe as an official set.
  6. Volvo no longer produced back-hoes or motor graders under the Volvo name, and I don't think we will see either from LEGO.
  7. Fantastic looking motor! Is it a two-stroke motor, or do you have some additional hidden gears to make the cams spin half the speed of the crank?
  8. Since you have s diagram of the real design, and you want your truck to look and work like the real one, I would suggest building a Lego version of what is in the diagram. Use mini linear actuators in place of the hydraulic rams, and a beam in place of the leaf spring (to keep things simpler). The pivot placement points and length of linkages will take some trial and error to get right, but that's all part of the fun. Edit: instead of the removable cotter pins in the diagram, you could use the pin with bushing part. All that should get you close to the real deal.
  9. Return to center with pnuematics is possible, and I'm currently working on a road grader that uses it for both the articulation and front wheel steering. It uses a servo to control a valve. I'll have a WIP thread up in a couple weeks maybe.
  10. The dump truck pictured doesn't have power to the front wheels, and most dump trucks in the U.S. don't. Not sure about Europe. I have seen some salt trucks and light duty dump trucks (Ford F350, F450, etc) with power to the front wheels though.
  11. You guys realize that bricklink will tell you what colors the 11L axle is available in, right? In 30 seconds, I was able to see that the 11L axle is only available in yellow. Now, can we please keep the thread about the 2017 sets?
  12. How would you power the motors? Converter wires? Mindstorms are not allowed, per the rules.
  13. Best deal on pneumatics is if you buy the pneumatic bag from 42043. $45 USD or so for the bag. No T connectors though, but those are dime a dozen on Bricklink.
  14. This looks amazing! All your MOCs look great. I'd really like to see more of the inner workings, and how you've designed the mechanical aspects of it. Do you have any pictures with the panels removed, or of the build process? Great looking moc!
  15. What if it has an inverted corner and two traditional corners? If I there were a 32x32 baseplate with two 16x32 baseplates 90* from each other, there would be enough space. Then there could be two corners to add some detail to (turrets, towers, etc), plus the inverted corner, which could really be a diagonal entry. You basically end up with two roughly 16x40 buildings placed 90* apart, with an entry connecting the two. It would be large and expensive, but it would fit the hospital idea very nicely.
  16. Fantastic review, Jim! I have this set on order, and it should be here Monday. This is the only Technic set that interests me this year, and will probably be the only set I buy. Might get two. This set is getting high ratings in the pole. Is this the highest rated set ever?
  17. Is the inability to pick up things due to the motor not being piwerful enough, or due to the clutch gears used? My guess is the latter, so replacing the clutch gears with standard 24t gears may fix this.
  18. Interesting to see one steering rack, despite the four wheel steering.
  19. 144 gears seem like a lot for such basic functions.
  20. Fantastic MOC! Love the way you build the bodywork, not just on this MOC, but all your builds. I noticed Top Gear's mention about this too. Congrats!
  21. Instructions are now on Lego.com. No corrections yet...
  22. Jim, thanks for the amazing review! This is the best review I've ever read, and as usual, the photos are superb! As for the set itself, I'm going to pass. I really hope the Claas's functions work better. The 42049 Mine Loader was a complete design failure, and now the Porsche with its flaws, and I'm seeing things I don't like about the the BWE. Lego needs to get the Claas right.
  23. I wonder how much Mobile had to pay for that bit of Mobile 1 advertising?
  24. I agree. I don't plan on buying the BWE, and I'm on the fence when it comes to the Porsch and Volvo. I really like the Class though.
