And to throw a wrench into things, if one rear axle has dual tires and the other axle singles, the pivot point is not centered between the axles. The pivot point would be roughly 1/3 the distance from the axle with dual tires. Years ago I found a website that had diagrams for a bunch of different wheel and axle configurations. It was pretty neat, but I can't seem to find it now.

42056 - Porsche Speculation
dhc6twinotter replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yup, you're right. It was available on the Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra, Chevy Suburban, and GMC Yukon XL. The rear wheels turned opposite direction at low speed and same direction at high speeds. From what I've heard, the system works great when towing at higher speeds and helps reduce trailer sway. -
It's great that somebody else is building this. This was my first moc in a very long time though, so it's definitely not as great as many others on the forum. I do really like the modular approach I took with this build though, and in some ways, it is my favorite moc that I've built. The newer tires from the Xerion should look much better on this tractor, especially with the the hood being a bit longer than it should be. I just replied to your PM too. .

Looks great Z! That suspension design was pretty common in many of the late '80s / early '90s Ford trucks and SUVs. It's a slick setup and has some nice travel.

I currently work as a GIS Analyst/Cartographer for a rural electric utility. I sit in front of a nice computer and map our electric system. In the past, I've driven semi trucks and buses, painted houses, and installed high-end audio/video equipment. Over the next few years, I hope to get into real estate. Eventually, I would also like to get a commercial pilots license and a A&P (Airframe and Powerplant) License.

This is a case Steiger that I built a few years ago. It was built before the mini-LAs came out, so it uses the larger LAs. It's not the greatest moc, but it might give you some ideas. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=56275 The portal hubs take up some space, so you may be better off just using normal hubs. It might free up some space.

A few years ago I built a Case Steiger, although it's not a quad track: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=56275 It's not the best build in the world, and I think the hood is too long, but it does have a fair amount of functions. I don't have instructions for it, but the pictures might be a good starting point for somebody wanting to build a quad track.

42056 - Porsche Speculation
dhc6twinotter replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I really hope Lego doesn't introduce a new color for this set. As somebody who buys sets for their parts to use in Mocs, I hope they use existing colors. The Technic line is already becoming too saturated with color choices. That being said, I would welcome silver or gunmetal colors. Colors I would like to see: 1) Black 2) Orange (the existing orange) 3) White (maybe with an accent color) 4) Gunmetal 5) Silver -
My guess is the conveyor chute has to be locked in place so it doesn't slew when the motor that drives the belt is turned on. If it isn't locked, the conveyor will probably swing all the way over in one direction or another when the belt drive is engaged. I think I might pass on this set. It's a massive set with some neat new parts, but aside from the gearbox, there isn't a whole lot going on mechanically.

The Porsche looks really good. New fender pieces, and it looks like there may be a new 3x2x7 rectangular panel too. New rims too! Love the new tires on the Xerion, and they appear a few studs larger in diameter than the Unimog tires. The rims look like the same ones we've had for a while, just a new color with 6x6 dishes in the middle. The BWE has some nice, new parts, but I'm going to pass on it.

[WIP] Komatsu Dozer

Looking good! I like how neatly packaged all the motors are. It's good to see you building again too! -
Buying PF?

Personally, I don't like the speed controller for most of the things I've built. They are good for things that don't require constant input, so props on a plane, rotors on a helicopter, tractor PTOs, and trains are all good candidates for the speed controller. For most other functions, including drive, I prefer the cheaper bang-bang remotes. You can use up to four IR receivers at once, and each receiver has two outputs. This will give you a total of eight functions that you can operate. -

Merry Christmas all! -
The biggest flaw in the design is the use of the red 6L axle with the u-joints to control the grabber. The grabber uses 5L beams in parallel for the up/down movement, so the axle between the u-joints should be a 3L, for a total distance of 5L. By using a 6L axle, for a total of 8L between u-joints, extra stress is being placed on the axles and u-joints. The rear axle is a very weak design as well. The thin 4L beams are prone to cracking already, and the way they are mounted is the weakest possible way. It's not going to take much to crack those 4L thin beams. Then there is also the lack of a differential and the poor controls, but that is more personal preference than poor design I suppose. I do like the new fender pieces though.

I actually don't mind 42050. It's not the best looking set, but I get why the front is built like it is. Since the body lifts up and isn't connected to the chassis, the nose needs to be build strong enough to be smashed into walls and such. The wheele function is kinda lame, and I wish we didn't have another shade of blue, but otherwise, it's not bad. On the other hand, the mine loader has some major design flaws, and I'm surprised it made it past LEGO's quality control tests. There are some pretty rookie mistakes in that design.

[MOC] Hot Rod - Fire Bucket

Hot rod looks fantastic, and the flathead v8 is instantly recognizable.
