Has anyone built a LEGO Hub Bird 2014 Employee Gift Set?
JGW3000 replied to Legogal's topic in Special LEGO Themes
OT: but I frequently run into flocks of wild turkeys when driving the back roads of CT - imagine 100's of stupid birds to dumb to get out of the road - wild turkeys are supposed to be smart, go figure. And today, of all things, I got hit by a tumbleweed, in Connecticut!!! Back on topic, would also like to see instructions, thanks in advance when you get time to post, Legozebra. -
The 42043, sans picture, is still looking like a keeper to me, especially if the pneumatics thing is a good as what has been reported! (I sold all three of my 8110's).

Looks like a great opportunity for "MOC-trolling". So anyone can take anything posted on a public forum, Eurobricks for example, post it to this Cuusoo/Brinklink site, and get half the royalties??? This has the potential to put a serious damper on people posting MOCs on EB's - why would I post something I worked hard on, posted here on EB for the purpose of sharing and getting constructive feedback (and showing off, sometimes!), just to have some troll steal my IP. My best understanding of copyright law in the US, is that the creator of original works, which most MOCs are (even if they have licensed content), automatically own the original work and all derivatives, i.e pictures and instructions, related to that work, regardless if the copyright has been formally filed with the USPTO. If the original work involves licensed content, then there are other concerns of course. So what CuuSoo/Bricklink is doing is potentially tantamount to stealing copyrighted original works of art. Be curious to see how this all plays out, I'd know what I'd do if I find any of my content on their site (I've done similar in other areas of art and photography).

A suggestion for LDD builders that post in this topic. By way of background, I just posted my version of 10226 Sopwith Camel, although this set had already been posted and entered into the index, with two lxf files available. Each of the prior versions used brick-build replacements for various aspects of the set. This approach is fine and useful, as it provides both correct appearance and connectivity; however, posting models with extra bricks can be misleading, especially to inexperienced LDD users. My suggestion is that for any models containing substitutions or significant elements not part of the official set (excepting minor color variations), a second LXF file be provided in the same post, so that one lxf file is a "full version" and the other "official parts only" version, with errors and missing elements specified. This should not be that much more work for the model creator, and will significantly enhance the usability of this great resource we have on EB.

The suspense is killing me, at this point I am just happy for all the winners... and better luck next year... -
Jim, great contest, and I may have time to build this time. Just to be clear, the 41999 has four motors, but two are for drive, one for steering, and one for winch - this would qualify if it was new, but is this 3 functions or 4 - I'd count 4, as the two L motors are not connected by gearing, but are connected to the same IR receiver socket. My plan is to build with two IR receivers, to test the functions, these could be replaced by one S-brick with no change in aesthetics.

Yes, I just got an e-mail from LEGO, VIP double points on the 21st!

I'm building this in LDD in preparation for identifying which parts I have and to what color the red parts will be changed to (black, if you haven't guessed). Although only 1/3 of the way through, I am very impressed with the compactness and unique use of parts. I especially like having a chance to use this part, , which for me has been useless until now. Can't wait to pull parts and get building! Thanks to Madoca for the great design and Jurgen for the BI

Happens every year, I seem to recall they came back on-line sometime closer to mid-January -
Doc, great information and timely for some MOCs I am currently contemplating. I am surprised that hard spring 6.5L, is nearly as effective as the extra hard spring 9.5L, . I read ~1100 on the first, and ~1200 grams on the second, downward weight loading on each. However, normal spring 6.5L, only had ~500 weight loading, which makes sense, I was playing around with these last night and can confirm qualitatively. Its nice to have hard numbers like this.

However, Technic does seem to echo other themes - especially City sets. City gets Arctic, Technic gets arctic, many construction sets seem to have a Technic version issued in the same or following year. So, if there are Speed Champions this year, perhaps a Technic super car this year or next?

[C-MODEL] 8110 Jeep
JGW3000 replied to MrTekneex's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I am currently planning my build of this model, thanks for the great BI's Mr. Tekneex! I am thinking about installing the portal axles, but was concerned that since the motorized version of the model is only using one XL motor for propulsion of both axles, will the motor be overworked or other issues by adding the additional gears, axles, and friction points that the portal axles will create? -
Its 100 different LEGO elements, not 100 elements total... Perhaps this means you could order 100 * 200 = 20,000 different pieces at a time
-
umh, Technic it is, or better yet, the best combination of bricks and gears, Model Team
-
It would be epic if it included Lincoln's flying chair from the Lego movie
-
I imagine a lot of it has to do with manufacturing capacities, supply chains, distribution, logistics, and warehouse and retail shelf space. Obviously, the formula works well for LEGO... and we get to spend our holiday money wisely in January

Its now teased on the LEGO architecture theme page, but still under wraps, with the "coming soon January 1st" tag. http://architecture.lego.com/en-us
