There are also reviews for playability and buildability keeping in mind the target audience - are the instructions clear, assembly not too complicated, can the model withstand some amount of rought play - all of this may factor more into the final design than the number of parts or the appearance.

Looks like I'll have a spare $120 for something else, oh well. The original image got me going, would have been a nice companion to 42000. But I will wait for review until I pass final judgement, and maybe see what I can do with the design in LDD for potential MODing

J2G, thanks for posting. Lots of good details. Does the 42039 look really odd in the front? Looks like a gaping mouth to me However, 42038 looks great to me, a nice accompaniment to the City Arctic theme, whether intentional or not. The 42032 Tracked Loader and the 42035 Mining truck could be the stars of 1H2015 release.

Its back on sale in the U.S. LEGO S&H site!

If true, makes sense from a corporate IP protection standpoint. Most organizations creating objects or hardware worth protecting, regardless of usability, worth, or functionality, will destroy them before they leave their facilities. Unfortunate in this case. I bet they didn't destroy the samples of the 42030 front bucket though...

Dress my Exo Suit Mini-challenge - Discussion thread
JGW3000 replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I would have to agree with the two prior posts - I made sure that my build used only parts in recent production, and also was buildable, as best as you can do from an LDD - time and lack of the parts in real life prevented a brick build. But since this is a fun activity and we are all grown-ups playing with children's toys, perhaps some leniency is warranted. Future contents will need to be more carefully structured from the get-go. I'd still like to see an LDD option in future contests, but with more clearly stated constraints on use of parts. -

There are a few quick ways to check LDD files for nonexistent parts, none of which are fool proof, especially for minifig and decorated parts, and a few other parts. One is to load the LDD file into rebrickable, you will get a list of errors. LDD manager does similarly. You will then have to check the few parts that are not recognized manually. I'd be happy to check the top 3-4 vote getters, except my entry of course, as needed. -
Tires in POV-Ray
JGW3000 replied to JGW3000's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hrontos - thanks, the "#declare ldd_part_materials[NNNNN] = ldd_part_material_dullRubber;" statement in the .POV file did the trick. For the record, the tire part is #11209 before / after- 2 replies

Figured out how to do custom decorations in POV-Ray, and of course ended up having to go the STAMP route due to how LDD2POVray handles custom decorations - still, all in all, very pleased with the results and the utility of these programs.

Andy, we should start a club or have our own Forum here on EB . I have 4-5 MOCS ready to go, all sorted and organized, I think I enjoy the planning and organizing more than the actually building.

I was putting my six year old to bed the other night, when I saw something like this on his LEGO work desk. Very nice SNOT technique, developed independently, I couldn't be prouder

Technic General Discussion

How about:WIWMOC (Wish it was my own creation) -
I am doing some rendering in POV-Ray, and I am overall pleased with the results. Most parts have nice reflective surfaces; however, I found that non-reflective parts, especially tires, are rendered as shiny objects. Is there a means to have only tires rendered in a matte-finish, so as to give a more realistic appearance?

What better way to defend your Architect sets, such as from invaders from Planet Duplo for example, than with your very own Archi-Suit . Heavily armed with ink cannons, erasure projectiles, and other drafting implements. However, the Archi-Suit, like a T-Rex, has clasping claws that are somewhat feeble, as architects are really too particular to be out and about grabbing anything larger than a pencil Aside from the minifig and the exo-suit frame, this LDD model is made entirely with elements included in the various Architecture Theme sets, plus a custom decoration. For additional images, some showing a minifig in the drivers (draftsman?) seat, go to Bricksafe. LXF file is here Edits: improved POV-Ray render, made slight tweaks to model -
41999 Question
JGW3000 replied to DarkShadow73's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The base 9398, from which the 41999 is derived, is not mechanically realistic in terms of drive shaft or steering. The "differentials" you are referring too are most likely the two ball joints, which help support universal joints, which are transmitting the motion of the servo motor used for steering. Each axle has its own L-motor, wired in parallel, each of which drives universals, one of each axle, simulating 4WD. -
Intruiging Tweet from TLG-Apparent huge news is coming
JGW3000 replied to ocifant's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Clearly the clue is the use of the word "HUGE" in all Caps, could it be a very very very large IDEAS or UCS set??? -
My boy is going to love the 42033, I'm thinking my daughter is going to want the 42034, she has been aching to get into technic. Certainly 42038 and 42039 have high promise to be interesting, wonder what the B models are? Are the fenders, over the wheels, on 42039, new parts?

Flatiron building - the choice of brick yellow is totally unrealistic. Last time I went past the building, some years ago, I seem to remember it being brownish, so sand yellow or medium nougat would have been a better choice. A day one must buy, however; and potential MOD.

How about rotating rotable parts present in the basic frame - I assume this is OK -
[MOC] Battersea Power Station - Architecture
JGW3000 replied to jimmynick's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Looks great, truly an iconic building for old-fart PF lovers like me, just need to add the flying pig dirigible and it would be perfect However, I would have used sand yellow (dark tan) instead of brick yellow (tan) on the building, keeping the stacks white or medium stone grey. -
Great review, WV not really my thing, but I my kids will love it, especially the reindeer and elves. However, all of the images are overexposed, I have difficulty distinguishing the white bricks from the white background. A neutral grey background would have been useful here.
