Studs in technic holes?
Calabar replied to ReplicaOfLife's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
You mean there is some kind of collision error? I've not an available LDD installation to test it now. EDIT: I found an usable LDD to make some test. It seems there is a collision problem, so the replacement is not possible with collisions enabled. The attached file is the best (but from being satisfactory) result I could obtain, using a different type of scaffolding. test_technic-snot.lxf -
Studs in technic holes?
Calabar replied to ReplicaOfLife's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Certainly, infact I spoke about using "placeholder plates". The bricks will be placed later, and they will be not connected (but put in place). The only brick used in the first stage is the "connected brick" placed for example in a corner of the baseplate whose goal is to provide the missing connections of other bricks of the group. Exactly. And I'm not sure the strict tolerance could cause some collision problem in LDD. -
Studs in technic holes?
Calabar replied to ReplicaOfLife's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
The idea of Superkalle is very good. Use a "strange" colour (a colour that is not among them used in the building) for elements that will be replaced. Once the MOC is concluded, use the "select by colour" tool to select all these bricks and move them outside the building. Then attach the bricks on the back of plates you want to replace (in a single direction!!!), so that all the structure will be moved by a single brick measure. Once all the bricks has been added, delete all the placeholder plates (ever using the select by colour tool and then the delete key), and move the new bricks inside the building. As relative positions are the same, the bricks will stay perfectly in place. NOTE; in order to put the bricks back you have to move together with the bricks that you want to replace a "connected brick" that will provide the connection for the whole group (without a connection, you can't put it in place). As the connection have to be easy to manage, I suggest you to use an extra brick adequately placed (for example a 1x1 brick on a corner of the baseplate, if any), that you will delete it at the end of the procedure. -
Studs in technic holes?
Calabar replied to ReplicaOfLife's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
You can replace the connected three 1x1 plates with an unconnected 1x1 brick. That means the brick will stay there, but it won't be considered connected from LDD. I don't know about replacing n 1x1 plates with a 1xn plate. As technic holes have different pitch than studs, the result could be a collision error that avoid the plate to stay in place. Try, and tell us if this works. -
My suggestions: Buy single bricks on bricklink is quite expensive, so you could look for some bulk purchase otherwhere (some suitable lot of bricks that contains a large amount of bricks you think you could exploit). There are other bricklink-like markets, such as brickowl: take a look there too. Unfortunately LDD Manager is not up-to-date, so you cannot convert the IDs of the parts released in the last years. LDD is not the only digital building software. Take a look at the section index for other software. If I remember correctly, LDRAW-based software for example don't need to convert the part IDs (IDs are the same used by Bricklink). To buy the parts for your MOCs, you will need to buy from a great number of bricklink stores, and that increase the cost (expecially due to the multiple shipping costs). So the best pratice is to create a wanted list for each building and then check each suitable store using the feature integrated in Bricklink. That means you shpuld create all the wanted lists for all your MOCs before proceeding, in order to maximize the buy for each store and reduce shipping costs. There are software created to help users to optimize bricklink purchases. Take a look at the Section Index of the Digital Section for them. Usually the stores that have a large amount of bricks are not cheap. But if you have to buy large amount of bricks, probably they are not a bad solution, because you can save multiple shipping costs. Take into account to buy part of the bricks (usually common ones) on the LEGO website through Pick a Brick. The main advantages are free shipping over a certain amount of expense and a virtually infinite amount of available bricks.

Page cleaned. @ArmstrongYong Don't forget that the 512x size is reserved to large sets such as castles, modular buildings, etc... Your last entry is a small set, but the image is 512 pixels large. @KamalMYafi Similar speech for your entries. The scale is quite large for such a small sets.

@ImanolBB Hi, and welcome in the LDD Official Sets topic. Your entries are huge, not bad for a first contribution. In order to be regular, you have to fix the images in your post. Your images are oversized (maximum size allowed is 512x pixels for large sets) and not cropped (you have to remove ALL the borders around the subject). Take a look at other regular images as example. You can find all the rules of the topic in the first page. For any question or help, contact me in private. I'll change your images in text links, in the meantime (and will change a bit your layout). @tmctiger Contact me in private specifying the sets you are trying to download and including the links to the related posts (and the page of this thread where the entry is).

[KEY TOPIC] LDD custom bricks
Calabar replied to Zerobricks's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Unfortunately this topic have not an indexer/moderator, so there are not strict rules and irregular entries. In any case if you want to make a good and easily browsable post, follow my suggestions is not a bad idea. About posting in the LDD Official sets topic, note that the topic have strict rules (please read them carefully before posting, you can find that in the first page of the topic), so post there is another kettle of fish. If you have any doubt about how to post, you can contact me in private and make a "test" entry there, so that I can help and correct you until the post is regular. -
[KEY TOPIC] LDD custom bricks

Please read again my answer above, I edited the post adding new informations. Yes the image is too large, the maximum size allowed in EuroBricks is 1024x768 (but it is recommended to use this size only if strictly necessary). -

You could switch to the classic editor and add the tags manually. The URL of the image have to be embraced with IMG tags. [img=http://url_of_my_image] In this topic, the best practice is to provide two images (possibly same size) for each brick: on the left an image of the original brick and on the right the screenshot of the custom brick (or more than one if more versions are available). For each single custom brick, place the images under the Design ID and the description of the brick. Take a look at my post as example. PS: Internet Explorer is obsolete. You could switch to something other that is up to date (my personal preference: firefox). -
It seems today is a day of new contributors for the Official Sets Topic. Welcome, TheNerdyOne_. Your post is very well done, but you should fix the image. The image is not perfectly cropped (you have to remove all the borders around the subject, take a look at other regular images as example) and oversized (the maximum size allowed is 512x pixles for large sets). In the meantime I converted your irregular image in a text link. PS: please use brickshelf not only for the lxf file but for the image too. @Henni You added entries to the existing topic! This time I'll split the post for you, using your answer post above. Don't forget to avoid to add sets to an exsisting post, next times.

Hi Henni, welcome in the LDD Official Sets topic and in Eurobricks, and thanks for your contribution. Very good for a first post, it is regular, and that's very rare for a new user. A pair of suggestions: - report LDD version for each set separately, because it is possible in the future that only part of the sets will need an update. - if you will add new sets, don't forget to add them in a new post (and possible try to put together your entries so that you will post once a day). Never add entries to an existing post.

LDD is not adequate to manage such a large models. Even with a powerful PC, a few tens of thousands of bricks bring the software to hang. About measuring the size of the model, it is easy considering that a classic 1x1 brick have a base of about 0,8 cm and it is almost 1 cm (0,96) high (more considerations here).

LDD Official Sets UPGRADE Report
Calabar replied to Calabar's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Index updated with informations reported until here. -
Hi m3000, and welcome in the LDD official sets topic. Thanks for your contribution, but in your post there is something to fix. Here is an help: images have to be cropped (no border allowed around the subject). Take a look at the images posted by other users as example. images have to be sized correctly: I suggest 384x pixels for the first entry and 448x pixels for the second. images and lxf files have to be hosted externally. I suggest you to use a LEGO related hosting such as brickshelf or bricksafe, that are affordable and allow to host both images and lxf files and share that with hotlink. you should add a list of errors/inaccuracies As you can read, the index is up to be updated. If you want that your entries will be added to the index, you should fix them quickly (maybe today). For any question/help contact me in private (you have to reach 10 messages). EDIT: I merged your two posts, so if you fix your entries, all of them will be added to the index. Please try to avoid to post more than a single time per day.
