  1. I'm missing a place where Powered Up code can be gathered and explained so other guys can reuse it or find inspiration. I had a discussion with @Jim how that could work out in this forum. I was thinking about having something like the hall of fame for code which underwent optimizations in a dedicated thread and which was proven to work. But this might lead to several thread which are prone to be inactive. So we decided to start with a single thread to publish PU code and discuss it. If it gets to chaotic We could have two separate thread. One for discussion and help request and the other one for working and optimized code. To keep things orderly, a general structure might be helpful. So here we start with my proposal. TL;DR: Automatic brake lights based on speed reduction Description: The following code switches brakes lights on in case the speed is reduced. That works for reducing speed while driving forward and backward. When the speed reaches 0, the light are turned off. In this code I'm using PF lights controlled by the Boost color and distance sensor. But that can be replaced with PU lights. Code: Video Declaration of variables: a - Used to control the speed, is set by the slider 0 b - Speed (a) at the first point in time c - Speed (a) at the second point in time d - Speed difference between b and c Detailed walkthrough: The code block consists of three rows. The first row consists of a loop (left) and the code block to control the speed of the motor (right). Most of the code blocks in the loop are not needed. You actually just need the first block which sets constantly a value for the variable a to control the speed. The rest are widgets for testing timings. The second row is the logic to detect speed differences. To do that constantly, a loop is used again. It simply reads a, the speed at different times. You can adjust the time between the measurments according to your needs. In my case 0,08s worked well. At the end of the loop the difference is set to the variable d. The value can be something between 100 and -100. The third loop at the bottom contains the logic to turn the brake lights on or off. You will also notice the purple blocks. They are used to control the PF lights. I'll come to that in a bit. First i want to explain the logic to turn the lights off an on. There are three scenarios: Driving forwards Driving backwards Parking When you are driving forward the max value of a is 100. Lets say the speed is suddenly reduced to 50. The difference is 50. When you are driving backwards the max value for a is -100. The speed is again reduced by 50. The difference is -50. When you are parking the difference is of course 0, because it doesn't change. So i have two condition i want to check for: Am I driving backwards or forwards? Is there a speed difference? I can exclude the third check, parking, by checking values for a that are greater or smaller than 0. So, in one sentence: IF there is a speed difference AND the speed is GREATER THAN 0 OR IF there is a speed difference AND the speed is SMALLER THAN 0 then turn on the light (upper purple block at the end). But how to control PF lights with Powered UP??? That is covered for example by @kbalage here. The first purple code block on the left sets the port and the correct mode for the boost sensor. The two purple code blocks on the right side control the brightness of the PF lights. D is the port where the sensor is connected to, 3 is the channel 4 on the PF IR receiver, 5 is the red or blue port on the IR receiver, 7 switches the light to max brightness, 8 turns it off.
  2. Hi everyone, I'm searching for the best motor to measure angles. Since I don't have all motors, I'm depended on those, who have them and could a comparison. Requirements: The motor must be compatible with the C+ Technic Hub, used for example in the 42100 The resistance, when turning the motor manually, has to be as low as possible When the motor is turned manually and you stop turning, the motor should not continue to turn with too much swing. 2. has more priority than 3. I have tested the C+ L and XL motor so far. I also have the large angular motor, but it is simply too large. The internal resistance of the C+ L motor was way to high. The C+ XL motor delivered quite ok-ish results. It is just too bulky. Perfect shape and size would be the Medium Angular Motor, which I don't have. Another alternative would be the Boost Medium Linear Motor. I would appreciate, if someone, who has these motors, could do a test for me. A little teaser why I'm looking for this info: I'm building a truck with pneumatic suspension. I using the angles of the suspension arms to detect and control the height. First proof of concept in PoweredUp is already written and working.
  3. Hello to all, I am new here and wanted to share my very first creation with you. This is Toyota Land Cruiser FJ70 pick-up. I build it by using bricks from following sets 42000,42030,42042,42043. I took inspiration from RM8 creations but also in the past I was driving this car quite a lot in raw conditions and I have big sentiment related with this Toyota model. Pix and Video are not pro quality as this is my very first approach to build and share LEGO creation so please don't judge me too harshly form this point of view. I hope you will enjoy looking at this model. In the near future I have plan to make simple video how to build it.   4. I'm amazed there isn't already a discussion topic for this, but yea, let's use this thread to talk Pixar films and related things. Personally, I love most Pixar films. Y'all probably know that the Toy Story series is my favorite trilogy of films. The next Pixar film coming out is Monsters University, which is Pixar's first prequel film. There is also talks of Finding Nemo 2 coming out in the near future. But, I particularly started this topic today as news just came out that the Cars spinoff, Planes, has been announced to be released in theaters on August 9th, 2013. It's kind of ironic as this is not going to be a film produced by Pixar. I will not be looking forward to Planes after the disaster that was Cars 2. Oh, and I really wonder if they'll make Planes LEGO sets.

  6. Now that she's finally finished, complete with custom decals from OKBrickWorks, it is time to give her a proper thread. She turned out to be one of my most complex diesel engines to design and build, took almost 2 years to actually have her build as I just couldn't find a good solutions for the vents at the back. Containing over 1800 pieces, 2 PF train motors to power her, brickbuild zigzag in the stripes and a pretty complex nose, she's going to be a head turner for sure. The 1x2 plates and 1x2 plates with ladder are custom chromed from Chrome Block City.   7. This model is the last of the original Museum of Transportation vehicles I have planned on buying, but that doesn't mean I won't have more in the future... who knows what may happen. This model will be built at some point in 2019. Real World Background: Here is Union Pacific rotary snowplow 900081. It was designed and built in 1966 at the UP Omaha shops, and is the heaviest rotary snowplow ever built, weighing 367,400 lbs. Three or four diesel locomotives, which were controlled from the non-propelled plow, pushed it at four to six mph. The snowplow is powered by an EMD 16 cylinder 3,000hp turbocharged diesel engine that drives an electric generator, which provides power to turn the 12’ rotary blades at up to 150 rpm. A steam generator provided heat to the cab and can thaw out the blades if they became frozen. This rotary snowplow was last used in Green River, WY in the mid 1980’s, and it was donated to the Museum of Transportation in St. Louis, Missouri in 1994 by the Union Pacific, where it is still seen today. LEGO model notes: I was inspired by Dr_Spock_888 and his rotary snowplow to build my own way back in 2014. Needless to say, it the originally 8 wide model didn't come out quite right at that time, so I put it aside for quite some time. I just recently remade the model into a 6 wide body with a 10 wide blade section, and have have smoothed out the roof studs with tiles. As before, the words "UP" (the initials of the former owner Union Pacific) should go on the studs towards the middle, while "900081" should go on the studs in the center in printed 1 x 1 tiles, right below the two UP tiles. The blades are actually part of Dr_Spock_888's design, but mine do not move with the train like his... mine are not connected to the wheels on the track, and do not move unless you spin them with your hand.   9. Hello, I guess this creation doesn't need a description as most of you probably have seen Pixar's Up movie. I really enjoyed to recreate Carl Fredricksen's flying house in a scaled version. Non the less I got it to build it in the popping colours and included details such as the porch and downpipes. I hope you like and feel free to share your thoughts Jonas

    MOC - 7 wide UP EMD SD70ACe

    Behold, my first large scale locomotive MOC, the EMD SD70ACe. The engine is 7 wide, and runs 48 studs in length from coupler magnet to coupler magnet. Everything is brick built, not a single sticker to be found on it. Motive power is provided from two PF Medium motors each driving an A1A wheel set. A PF receiver sits where the dynamic braking grid would be, and the battery box is accessed through the hole between the air horns. I know the locomotive number belongs to a GP-38, but it worked in the size. Given the motor locations, there wasn't any room to build the internals for the cab. And now, a shot of the internals. You can see the two PF Medium motors rather easily in here, along with the battery box and PF receiver. Given the generous length of the locomotive, I plan to upgrade it to two L motors next time I hit the LEGO store in Koln. It hauls a lot of wagons, but lacks speed. If the motor upgrade doesn't speed it up, at least I'll be able to haul a lot more. I'd like to thank everybody that's posted their MOCs up here. I've cribbed a few ideas from stuff to improve the looks.

CLAPPIE: "Landing successful. Brain activity is spiking... get that med team out here!" Tech Guy: "Get that oxygen mask hooked up. I've never seen anything like this. Put him in Room B01. This is out of our league." Tech Girl: "The data from the CLAPPIE unit is indeed unusual. I'm afraid if we don't wake him up soon..." Tech Girl: "...he's not going to wake up."     MOC UP EMD SD70

    As promised, my version of the Union Pacific EMD SD70. A lot of the build is the same as the BNSF version I did but there are some differences. Looking at the BNSF version they are easy to spot. Getting the last few pieces took longer than expected, hence the delay in building her. And putting the stickers was a real pain in the you know what.     Wind-up Robot

    The all time classic toy of the 20th century and to me the coolest toy right after LEGO now finally in brick form! This is my project for LEGO Ideas. It uses a classic blocky body and cubic head design to make it simple and cute. It is, as you can see,decorated with a control panel on the chest, a face with two scary red eyes and a cool little window on it's back that lets you watch the mechanism at work.
