Hi everyone! Just saw this "introduce yourself topic" so here I am. I'm lurking around for a few months now and so now and then I post my own creations. I discovered that this is a really cool forum with loads of people who are even more enthousiastic about Lego than I am. For me, it all started in 1985 when I got the 7727 train for my birthday. I had never been so happy! Since then I got some more Lego sets and when I grew older I switched to Technic and bought the classic 8868 and the 8880 for myself. Now I combine Lego with electronics: I'm building all kinds of robots and recently I've built a huge automated train track (see my posts). I don't use the NXT platform; it's quite expensive and I like to develop all the electronics myself. Since a few months I'm building a robot that's going to fetch me a beer from the fridge but there are some obstacles to take. I'll open a topic about that soon. Cheers and let's build cool things!

(UK) Southern Lego Train Club show - call for exhibitors
DavidT posted a topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
At the end of May is the 4th annual SLTC exhibition at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre in Quainton, Buckinghamshire - Sunday 26th and Bank Holiday Monday 27th, with optional setup on the Saturday afternoon. We usually have a good number of Lego train layouts and other theme displays and activities, plus exhibitor-only stuff after hours. The Centre will also have real steam trains running and other non-Lego activities going on. Lunch is provided, limited accomodation or camping is available for overnight. Our exhibition is not just about Lego trains, we've also had displays covering most of the other themes. If you are an AFoL and would like to come and exhibit with us, you would be most welcome; please contact me to arrange your display space etc. Regards, David SLTC Admin http://www.southernltc.org.uk http://www.bucksrailcentre.org -
Hi, hope it's ok to start a new topic about this but I searched a didn't find a suitable, current thread related solely to trains. The best PF battery threads are several years old now and are mostly geared toward Technic. I'm mulling over whether to get the 8878 Rechargeable Battery Box (US$ 50) or use the 88000 Battery Box (US$ 13 and included in many sets) and then use rechargeable batteries in that. I have a young child so I don't want to use LiPo rechargeables in 88000 (because of possible safety issues) but from what I've read, Lego has protection circuitry built into their 8878 LiPo Rechargeable Battery Box. If I go with the 88000 then those 3rd generation Eneloop NiMH rechargeables seem to be the way to go. I don't really mind swapping out batteries but they only deliver 7.2v. Apparently Lego claims that their 8878 Rechargeable Battery Box delivers 7.4v so that seems to be a selling point but is it noticeable in any way? What are your thoughts on this? What do you use for your PF trains? Do you use both 8878 and 88000 with NiMH rechargeables and do you notice any performance differences between the two? Personally I'm not planning on having any monster-long trains or hills but who knows what the future has in store? Ok, thanks in advance, Joe
