Wow. Awesome. Thanks for sharing and for the other groups of mechs - I like the squat, grey fellow on the right!

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors

Huh - interesting - Love the New Chewbacca! What set will he be in? And am glad to be getting that clone pilot helmet with the open face in a basic set. Will get the Vwing for sure. And new blasters...not sure if I like those or not yet, but it looks like they shoot the 1x1 round studs? Cool. First I'd heard of them!

Disney Princess 2014 Rumors & Discussion

I am enjoying these quite a bit. My daughter is just turning two, and loves to say "Guwrl" (girl) to indicate the Friends mini-dolls that she wants to play with in her brick-built doll house. She doesn't watch movies yet, but I'm sure she would like these characters. I like the minidolls dresses - and think they will fit in well with the Friends' wardrobes (if not better - I like these colors much better!) Hadn't planned on these to buy, but will probably add a few in.
  4. Very cool Idea and the results are great. I have a large bin of Technic that I totally under-utilize. I should use it up with some bricks to emulate something like this. My house is so dark, would probably need to put some lighting in myself...

    Helicarrier On Cuusoo

Hmm. I think there is a "Cuusoo highlights" thread this may be better suited for... But, thanks for sharing, regardless. For me, no - I wouldn't buy this. It would be way out of my price range. That said, I would definitely rather see a minifig-scale set rather than a micro one (which what I was expecting by clicking on the link). The sense of scale and authenticity are undeniable. But, for $600 dollars, I would expect nothing less. I date myself by saying that back in my day one of the most sought after "toys" was 7-foot long aircraft carrier for GI JOE. I mean, who had room for that thing? That's what this set reminds me of, dominating even the death-star set. Who would believe that? Even if this gets the supporters, there's no way it could make it through review.

    Monster Fighter's Secret Hideout

When I saw the first pic, I thought it was going to be all in black and white - I didn't realize it was a color photo. I really like the little radar/sensor turret.

    Moving House

Are you shipping via freight/boat? Flying it all? Are you mostly limited on :weight or volume? Me...I've had to do cross country moves. And the things just got crushed. Slammed. Collapsed into hardly identifiable pieces so everything fit as compactly as possible. I'm recovering still...8 years later.... The best compromise - get some big cardboard sheets (sometimes you have to tape 'em together) and custom build the box. Extra card-board on the corners. Then, put the thing in there and fill all the spaces with a)loose bricks and minifigs if you think the box will handle the weight or b) clothes and other light-weight tchotchkes - and use the space as efficiently as you can. Is it on base plates? Is there a "more or less seam"? The other option is find the biggest, but readily available tupper-wares you can get and break the thing down into the least number of easily identifiable pieces. Then drop them in those and, again, fill the remaining space with light stuff. Bricks are a pain to move....

    Steampunk Snowspeeder (inverted)

Regardless of the fad, I like the build. I think you may be able to start a new trend...everyone building their things upside-down/inverted. Like, that would be the rule.

    Girls in action themes?

Ah..but MegaBlocks has the Barbie License.... But yes, you are right - I bet they don't. "Where's My Rhianna Kreon!?" - probably not a question asked much of Kreon. What about their marvel license? I don't even pay attention enough to know if they have any.

Hey BaronSat. I'm a super long time lurker of the online lego community and I always have known you as one of the "father figures" from the way-back years - so it's great to see your stuff on here actively at this time. I agree. Aqualish for the win. I can't wait to chop his hand off! But the Kenner - power-droids. Drool. Give me one now.

    Poor Knights Fortress

Hey. I am totally digging this. It looks very playable for kids. I'm a dad, and even my most favorite builds...nay, indeed my most favorite builds - they get daughter-handled roughly. I can see her having fun with a set like this. Good use of features like stairs, ramps, and interior-exterior use. So check mark there. And great use of environmentals - the hall with the water - very minecraft-esque and adds to the total life of the model. Then - the poor knights. Sad friars without any helmets - I like them and the idea that this is a fortress that isn't done. (Though really - shame on those black knights for not letting them finish!) I assume the "brick with holes" represent parts in progress? I would spread those out, for a more natural texture... I would spread the building out more to really sell that this is under construction. Right now it seems like "mostly built, just need to fill in the details." Not - "oh my goodness, so much work left to do...just look at the west wing and soon-to-be-poor king's treasury!" unfinished. I think an unfinished, but fully delineated room or wall would really help out. Or maybe some simple scaffold or construction equipment working on piles of bricks. Maybe a half-started curved tower to match the great one that is built - One thing that I think you are on to in creating an architecture unique to these poor knights - the Triple arches. I see them in at least two places. Maybe you can get three to "stack" horizontally at the front of the gate or elsewhere to mirror those spots... Anyway - great start and thank you for sharing!

MOC: Hall of the Silver Throne

Great. Just splendid. Thanks - I checked out the pic "embiggened" and was not disappointed. Tons of great details, some so simple they blow my mind in that I've never seen them. Very fresh masonry and brickwork. And solid "copy" to go with the solid build. I can feel the deliberate crafting of each. Now...I just wish I could get a better look at those windows....

    Rainbow Lorikeet

I don't know this bird. You know, whole US thing - but I think you did a great job with the subtle modifications. The simple change of the beak and replacement on the base change it from looking like a fierce raptor (okay, colors aside) to an alert and inquisitive creature - really goo job capturing the character, nay - Spirit, of this creature. And the branch is awesome. I got a tattoo of a bug (okay, butterfly) hanging off a branch. The branch is the best part, artistically - its perfectly rendered in a minimum of strokes. Same with yours - perfectly done, in my mind.

Disney Princess 2014 Rumors & Discussion

I just like that Disney has a license in the minidoll scale. Some might say it will weaken the strength of the Friends core line, but I think it may draw more people into it who wouldn't already be on-board. I feel like TLG is doing a good job making a line (with Friends) that portrays strong, smart, independent feminine characters. Disney characters, arguably, present some or all of those features but not necessarily in that order. But to me, that's okay - it's two markets, same scale. Merida and the princess revamp are very polarizing - I think it was good to reveal this set early to ensure conversation - I agree that her hair could have been more...Merida...but I also think that it is a "stronger" set - she has a bow and target. She isn't serving the cookies. They could have done a lot worse, and I think it's the medium (LEGO) that allows them to let the character be closer to the movie than to the "brand" of Disney Princess. The best thing I think that could come out of the whole line - a Princess Leia cross-over. Even if only an exclusive set at one of those Starwars Weekends at Disney World or something (Which means I'd have zero chance at owning one) I'd still like to see it...

    aliens ATTACK!

I really liked the line - fizzled too quickly if you ask me. And now look - "MARS ATTACKS!" the brand from Topps, is making a total comeback this next year or so. LEGO was just ahead of the curve. I am hoping there may be interest and we'll see them again in the future. Cool use of photoshop. I tried some beam effect things like that years back but was never happy with them. Dug them out recently...(they are 10 years old) and man did I build terribly. And photoshop worse! [Edit] - Oh! and welcome to the forums!

    Playing with my bricks

Thanks El Garfio - we should all probably have threads like this. I need to pull out my camera at the same time I pull out my bricks, too. I like the coloration on the Haunted house - the blue tint is really working. Is that natural light or artificial? The street scene displays a natural strength of LEGO - to make more than just the sum of the parts - even though the basic bricks were used, your design brings out a strong gestalt - nice buildings. Here's a question - all my buildings only have 3 walls (with an open back). How do you build your town? Are they fully enclosed?

Remake of 6077 Forestmen's River Fortress

Yes, this one seems to have been a favorite of many - there are lots of remakes out there of this set and it's a great way to go back and pick up some foundation-techniques, before all the AFOL's started mucking everything up! I like the band of forest-persons and the weighty feel of the fortress. Now you just need the raft and the other side of the river! Good job and keep up with these - great idea!
  22. Been ruminating over this for a bit - one thing I wasn't initially thinking of: how the license could switch the other way. Minecraft has seen mods from fans that make the blocks like lego bricks (studs and whatnot), and it's seen licensed tie-in mods (Mass effect). Now...maybe....an official licensed mod based on LEGO and LEGO Brand colors/textures. That is the win. If that happens...I mean...I've only seen it in Mannerist paintings...but you know, when that good old religious feeling is delivered in a perfectly humane and visual style you can understand? A kind of rapture, I tell you! (and I agree - prototype minifig steve is the opposite of win. No rapture there.)
  23. Wow. Um. Hmm. Does this mean I have to log into facebook? Do I have to? For the record, I now love minecraft, though it took me a long time to play the game. Why? Because everyone kept comparing it to LEGO. And I was like, "really? No way, come off it." But alas. I can't really see this line being a generator of custom parts or special pieces except for printed tiles. There's the pixel-pickaxe and sword, and creepers and pigs will all need faces. Maybe a new skeleton head. But overall, this will use standard elements - makes sense. I am most excited, but also most wary, of what looked like charts where certain bricks in certain colors correlated with the building materials in minecraft. Again, makes sense, and I hope it means we'll get some bricks in colors we wouldn't have already - but I don't want everyone to have to cross-populate their vocabularies where people will say of mocs "Great use of the cobblestone against the dirt, there." We already have enough terms! (...of course, in my heart, I love an abundance of terms, so...yes, do it). I wonder - "textured" or speckled plastic? (dirt, stone) - Maybe for the special ores? Or maybe just printed tiles for the tops of the materials (Wood would be helpful to everyone). I'm curious as to where this will go. I haven't bought any of the mini-minecraft sets, because of scale, but on the other hand think they fit there. Minecraft-Mocs I think would be less set-dependent and more a social contract/aesthetics kind of deal. I can see a generation enjoying it, and maybe it will make a style where everything is brick-built instead of brick-and-specialized elements built (All I can think of is trees at the moment). Will follow, but my breath is not bated.

Once upon a time in the West

I can't say anything that hasn't already been highlighted - great build and congrats. I am really enjoying all the details in the general store and saloon. The minifigs all strike just the right tone - none seems superficial or out-of place. Great job -

    [MOC] - WOPR

Cool idea - I like the lights and blinkies. Good detailing on the curves and blockiness of it. The photos of the real prop make it look even less like a computer and more like a filing cabinet. Yours at least looks like it could make a calculation or two... Next spaceship "brain" I need to build may have to give a nod to this fellow for inspiration. Thanks!
