Could you do a cobbled brick pattern or a v shaped brick pattern as well? That would be fantastic!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Jasper Joppe Geers replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
No. -
I don't think there's any infringement of any copyright whatsoever, as long as you create you're own design. There are a number of details you should make you're own style, just to make sure they don't look like any Lego design. I'll send you a PM.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Jasper Joppe Geers replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Well, yes and no. When i look at my kids, they both played with Lego for a long time. My oldest daughter is the one with fantasy, ideas and big dreams. She can do without interchangeabale modules. My youngest is quite the opposite, and likes to do everything by instruction. So i think interchangeable modules can help... Personally, I love interchangeable modules! -

One thing i don't understand is that you bring this up while that was a decade ago?... I'm sure some things have changed don't you think? -
Congrats, and let's just say that yours is getting a bit closer with certain details then the other one posted on BB.

How to Design a Modular or a Non-Modular Building?
Jasper Joppe Geers replied to LegoModularFan's topic in LEGO Town
Let me add just my two cents: To start a modular, the thing that is most important to me is to get the floor plan right. That means the inner walls, the facade, and pavement, and perhaps most important and tricky: the way upstairs to the next floor. For example i'll add some pics from the post office i did: From there you can't go really wrong anymore, just let your imagination do the work. Of course you'll find yourself taking down your creation a number of times but (for me anyway) that is part of the fun. It also helps to draw a simple lay out on paper before if that works for you. The moment you have your floorplan ready you're likely having fun building the walls and probably the interior of your basis. Most of the time it appears to be a store, a shop of some kind, but of course in your imagination it can be anything! And while building it you automatically start thinking of how to get upstairs, and what to find there. And when you start the second floor, it is more or less the same process. and the more you're getting into it, the more stuff you're able to create. Think of rain pipes, chimneys, etc. Just remember, the floorplan has to be correct. And there you go! Have fun!- 93 replies

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

All incredible mocs indeed LegoModularFan, but like i said before, huge parts lists at the same time. Many of them should make their way easily to 10K votes for recognition for sure. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Jasper Joppe Geers replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Define 'Incredible'.. Most of us would choose a 32 x 32 footprint to start with i guess. 16 wide would only be fantastic if an enormous amount of bricks are fixed in it in a clever way, and therefore a very expensive parts list. -
Fantastic! Now those are road plates! And, me being dutch i'm of course very attracted to those bicycle lanes!

Exactly. So, if TLC would/could make this a cost effective way of 'Design Your Own Modular' i guess it certainly would be a succes! -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

To a certain extent i agree, but i think the position has changed somewhat over the years. I might be wrong, but it seems to me that producing bricks has become easier/cheaper over the years, given the incredible palette and variety of colours and bricks we have today. It is just a matter if bricks used in those sets can be reproduced in a cost effective way. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

- little off topic - Well, i think a reboot of CC and maybe GG would be great for those who still would like to get one without spending the thousands of Dollars/Euro's for it. It's a pity that money stands in the way like that. These classic modulars should be available at any time for everybody who likes them. Perhaps not as a boxed set, but as a parts list from TLC. - back on topic - -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Jasper Joppe Geers replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I remember from the early days of the Cafe Corner the pictures showing what you can do with multiple cafe corners... It seemed to me at that time stacking levels seemed to be the 'challenge'. So in case of a decent size hotel i assume that a footprint of 32 x 64 should be the minimal measurement? I'd guess that TLC would try to minimalize that to 32 x 32 first, and let AFOLS do the rest?... :) -
And the great fun with this is that you don't have to stick to the traditional straights and corners etc. Me being Dutch i always look forward to (separate) bicycle lanes, or boulevard designs. Did someone mention bus stops already? Cheers! JJ Geers

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Jasper Joppe Geers replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Ever since there have been the modular building sets i don't think the architecture was the biggest thing. They've all been, let's say, quite Disney' esque to me. Yes, there are loads of style's, many ideas, but each set seems to have it's own story to it. and when put together you get this mix and match kind of thing. And you like it or you don't i guess. When i did my stuff some years ago now i kind of tried to follow that thread. Why would i do a building in this or that way? And what was going on right there? Many times i had these pictures in my head of what was going on inside the buildings, stories i'wanted to tell. For me the greatest pleasure and delight were the details of everything, both inside the building and outside. And with all the colours and different bricks we have today, you can clearly build all your dreams. And that's when an addiction becomes dangerous, which is the main reason why i quit doing Lego. -
Fantastic! Clever use of those baseplates. ;)

Lego Speed Champions vs Modulars (scale)
Jasper Joppe Geers replied to LegoSjaak's topic in LEGO Town
I think you're just fine here. One can always question how to calculate size ratio. When i did my stuff i usually calculated height first. So, consider a minifig being a person of 1.80 m. Of course, if you then consider footprint, you're completely lost. :) I always wanted to put two minifigs side by side in a car, and design it 6 studs wide. Almost impossible. And the one occasion that i managed it the design was really, really, really weird... ;) Cheers! JJ. -

In many ways i think this is a great, great set. There's a wide variety of bricks in various colors. Plenty of bricks to get creative. And it seems to me that is exactly what Jamie was aiming for. Over the years the buildings themselves became less impressive perhaps, but instead tons of ideas were added to it. So many features and funny details which for me is the trademark Jamie design. As for the new bricks, they may be very useful, but as always it takes away the creative challenge a bit. I find it more fun to think of a neat way to work around the corner, and not having the right brick for it. But that's just me. :)
