After a long period of inactivity I've decided to collect some of the older and discontinued Technic sets for my display so I just ordered myself a 8462 Tow Truck for a very reasonable price.

Due to a more relaxed atmosphere during holidays, I was able to bust out my LEGO collection after almost a year of inactivity. While current MOCs are not presentation-ready, I've been meaning to share some of my old vignettes. Hereby presenting Grinding Skater Vignette, with CMF Skater Boy doing his favourite railing grind trick. C&Cs welcome!

Instruction booklets: why can't they be uniform?
MikroMan replied to Werlu Ulcur's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yeah, I agree with this... In times when I don't have enough time for MOCing, I'm collecting and organizing old LEGO manuals... I used plastic folders for display, and some fit superbly: One-sheet instructions and larger ones. The others can easily fall out when you move the folders around a bit. Event stacking them is a problem with so many sizes. -
Review Review: 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!
MikroMan replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Just finished building sixth bag of SpaceshipX3... I accidentally got two LBG 6x10 plates, instead of one 6x10 and one 4x12... I used one from my own collection, but I'm not really happy about it Otherwise, it's a fun and really enjoyable build- 228 replies

Last week on vacations, I visited LEGO stores in Berlin and Copehagen. As I rarely get the chance, I filled in total 7 cups, though I'm not sure what I was thinking when I took only left 4x6 wing pieces I was slightly annoyed at the desing of PAB wall in Berlin, because it's on two sides of a single wall, so you have to keep going around to look at bricks, but otherwise I had luck because the store was mostly empty and the bins were pretty much filled Also, I understand that 5-year-olds sometimes can't keep their hands off other people's stuff, and I usually keep an eye on my cups, but this one event rather pissed me off: There was a family in Copehagen (a mother, two small kids and two teenagers) in the area where I stored my cups (4 filled cups with lids on). They were watching me fill the lids and part of a new cup and as I went away to get some filler pieces the mother took one cup, lifted the lid, removed top pieces and gave the cup to her younger kid. At that point, all five of them were rummaging around two of my cups. I couldn't get to them because the store was totally packed (LEGO store in Copenhagen is located on main shopping street). Eventually they jammed some pieces back in and left lids uncovered. Sure, it's nothing unfixable, just needed few extra minutes to rearrange pieces, but damn if I wasn't angry Also, finally bought Benny's Spaceship and Ghostbusters, yay!

Yeah, I just saw it Still, thanks!

I recently bought some PAB cups and I need some help identifying a part number for a printed slope. The part in question is white 2x2 decorated slope. Design: Bottom: 6 switches, power button. Left: 7 buttons, 1 slider. Right: green screen with white crosshair. At first I thought it to be this: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3039p34, but it's way off. I am unable (or incapable) to see it in BL catalog. Any help is appreciated!

REVIEW: 7418 Scorpion Palace
MikroMan replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Great review! I remember getting this set as a gift and I loved playing with the Scorpion trap mechanism. It's a really nice set. -
As great as Armoured Troops are(and would love to get my hands on a few to make an assault squad), IMHO they just don't really fit into CS despite the logo. Maybe I'm just weird but I want my classic spacemen in plain color with breast logo and a normal helmet

Hi guys! I am new here and dont understand some stuff.
MikroMan replied to plew2000's topic in Forum Information and Help
Hey plew2000! Not sure if I'm understanding your question correctly, so I'll just tell something about my MOC-posting process: I use a well-lit room with multiple light sources or a sunny day outdoors to photograph the model (I use DSLR plus a tripod, though it's currently inoperable), usually in RAW format, but JPEG can be just fine. I do retouching, fixing colors/contrast/white balance in Adobe Photoshop CS (special effects,) and/or Photoshop Lightroom (retouching, watermarks...). Export images, crop and/or resize according to some sites' rules, archive them in a relevant Dropbox folder and upload to picture hosting service. I recommend Flickr, as they give you 1TB of free space. I usually make up some backstory or context for my MOC (time/location...). When posting, I add some relevant pictures to the text and include a link to my gallery where I may upload further photos of requested details. Regards, MM -
It really depends for me. When I'm at home, I usually fiddle around with leftover bricks on my table while doing stuff on computer, and sometimes this evolves into an idea or some concept I'll eventually use. So that's me as a "gardener". However, when I'm at college during the week, I have a very small assortment of LEGO at my flat, so I prefer to imagine it in my head and then recreate it in LDD. That's my "architect mode", since I have to know what could/would fit together and I have slightly more limited selection.

Reviews like this make me sad I don't own any classic-era space sets. And some prices are rather extortionate nowadays...
-
I agree, it'd be nice to see a space theme more oriented towards exploration and contact with alien civilizations instead of Galaxy Squad and such.
-
I'm getting two just for the figs... And the turtle!
-
Ah, makes sense...

So... Pirates? Have I missed some references from other promo material?

Today, I'm presenting a 24x12 studs space vignette titled Spaceship Prison Block Nr. 3. It started out mainly as an exercise in building a wall at an angle and incorporating some curved pieces. It depicts a guard patrolling part of a spaceship's prison block, where one of the Galactic Intelligence Agency's spies is currently incarcerated. Full vignette: Spaceship Prison Block #1 by M1kroMan, on Flickr Prison area designation on the floor: Spaceship Prison Block #2 by M1kroMan, on Flickr Closer look at the cells: Spaceship Prison Block #1 by M1kroMan, on Flickr C&C welcome!

Seems like an efficient way to break a MOC down into parts
-
It really depends, when building small vehicles or vignettes, I display them for a week or two, then cannibalize it for parts. If I'm building something large, I'm more inclined to keep it together and separate.

First of August? Just my luck I'll be only able to visit LEGO store in the last week of July I just hope resellers don't overprice it. Yeah, I noticed that too, plus it looks to me the actual hand/claw desgin is black, not LBG as in the original.
