    [MOC] Millennium Falcon (40th Anniversary)

This is very nice. I don't agree with your idea of "minifig scale" (the proportions of the minifigure will ensure there will never be a consensus of opinion) but that's not important because you've made a beautiful model regardless. The interior is very well done also.

The good thing about that over-detailed Luke head is that it functions really well as a middle aged Luke face (and it has two sides), for possible depictions of him between episode 6 and 7 in the future that might not become lego minifigures

Amazing is the word, overused but entirely appropriate here. Really appreciate the attention and dedication to detail, that taper is wonderful. Excited to see how you tackle the nose cone.

Nitpick, but the 75094 endor trenchcoat han has proper legs (at least from the front, with the trenchcoat obscuring some of his pants)
  5. Looks superb! Agree with your choice to go with the Liberator first. I think it will look amazing in real bricks, the engines should turn out well.
  6. Well, yeah. Obviously whoever put those dimensions on the wikipedia page is mistaken. I wish Lucasfilm was more forthright with presenting these kinds of details, a lot of the information on the Databank seems like it could be improved.
  7. Important note: the 23 metre length refers to the Clone Wars era Republic bombers, with the entirety of the engine nacelles intact. The 16 metre length is the correct one for the ships at Yavin, with the stripped hulls and shortened nacelles.

completley agree. I didn't think it was possible for a lego model from 2017 to look this much worse than one from 2002, but apparently that's not the case. It looks like the basic design of 9498 has been copied and recoloured, which makes no sense because they are two representations of two quite different ships. Add to this the likely astronomical price, this is a stinker.
  9. It looks amazing! I disagree with the contrast comment - I think it's very faithful to the colours of the Liberator, and only a tiny bit exaggerated, which is a necessary sacrifice due to the brilliance of Lego's white colour (especially when compared with "White" star wars ships, which are almost always a bit dirtier and more greyish than white lego pieces are able to portray). The one thing I would do, though is definitely add in some small accents of "dirty" colours: dark tan, dark orange, reddish brown, dark brown, etc. where the concept art indicates oil/grease/rust/dirt/whatever. Another thing, because I haven't looked at the original build in any great detail and don't plan on making it myself I can't give specific advice for specific areas of the ship. But I would encourage you not to shy away from exploring alternative ways of creating identical or similar shapes that match the CR90's profile and shapes in order to improve the colour blocking for a Lego Liberator (obviously the original build was done with the Tantive in mind and inevitably, the colour scheme of a ship will affect what choices builders make to create certain shapes or angles).
  10. regarding the shallow greebling details on the hull that you chose to omit, perhaps you could replace some of your regular smooth bricks with the following: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=98283#T=S&C=86&O={"color":86} https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=4216#T=S&C=86&O={"color":86} https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=2877#T=S&C=86&O={"color":86} https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=30136#T=S&C=86&O={"color":86} as well as headlight bricks, arranged both without anything attached as well as with smooth tiles (or grille tiles) on top for variation in elevation in the greebled areas.
  11. Moving at a lightning pace, do you plan on making this in real bricks ?
  12. hi there, I did some detective work for you and where is what I found. as you can see here, when the fleet arrives at scarif, one of the CR90s is unmistakably the Liberator. As of the end of season 3, the liberator survived the battle of atollon. So I'm going to assume that the liberator survives season 4 as well. In any case, even if it doesn't, a ship is painted exactly like it at Scarif so you can't go wrong. The other interesting thing I found is this: further from the camera you can see another blue CR90, and like the Liberator, it exactly matches a ship that's appeared in Rebels. This one was one of the 3 corvettes that arrived at Mustafar in the season 1 finale. The other two were the Liberator and Ahsoka's corvette: http://i.imgur.com/Sy78w6M.png I just rewatched the end of the season 1 finale and the above corvette (blue neck and red accents) escaped unscathed along with the two previously mentioned. I don't have time to go through Rebels and find all the corvette kills, so as with the Liberator I'm going to say you're safe to build one in this scheme, even if it got destroyed (in season 1-3, can't verify yet) or will be destroyed (in s4), because both of these paint schemes appear at Scarif in R1. Personally i would encourage you to go with the liberator - much more important ship, and I particularly like the placement of blue as well as the grey engine block. i hope this was helpful!
  13. very promising start! I like the scale you decided to go with. To me it looks perfectly sized. Not too small, not enormously large, plenty of room for some nice detailing.

LEPIN ripping off STAR WARS MOCs

Well I don't really hold IP laws in a very high regard so that is not a concern for me. Lego and Disney are rolling in cash and their products leave much to be desired anyway, and that's without considering prices. Anyway. For me the main problem here is a company profiting off the creative works of individuals. It is by no means an acceptable practice, but perspective is required. Lego aren't angels, they're a private company with profit as the primary interest as well, just because what they do is legally protected doesn't make it ethically acceptable either. All companies are thieves in one way or another.

LEPIN ripping off STAR WARS MOCs

My problem with lepin is if they don't make agreements with the people who created the work to begin with. Evidently they aren't doing that, just taking advantage of people who take the time to show how they made their creations. This is pretty shitty in my opinion. Lego needs a competitor that is going to keep it on its toes - see the pending remake of the UCS millennium falcon which no doubt was spurred on by Lepin making a knock off of 10179. In this regard i agree with anothergol to a small extent. Lego takes advantage of the fact that in effect they have a complete monopoly. Lego has 'unethical' practices as well. Every company by virtue of its existence is not producing things on an ethical basis, but that's another topic for debate.

    [WIP][MOC] red 5 X-wing

hey thanks! Here's a mini breakdown of how the faux-intakes attach to the rest of the wing. Note that the 2x1 black plate furthest to the right attaches either to a 2x1 snot brick or a 1x1 snot brick, depending on which wing you look at (each one is constructed uniquely out of necessity). Credit to inthert for coming up with the tires-inside-cylinders idea.
  20. No, like mortesv said i think that is supposed to be a predecessor. These colour schema from rebels is something I'd like to see. For example this is the Liberator, (or "Pheonix home") https://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/starwarsrebels/images/c/c1/Liberator.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20151119040237 Another angle of the Liberator (art from episode guide for Fire Across the Galaxy): Another one from episode "gathering forces": https://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/starwarsrebels/images/f/f2/Gathering_Forces_40.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20150213152912 Another corvette from this episode (art from episode guide for Fire Across the Galaxy):

    [WIP][MOC] red 5 X-wing

thanks, that's extremely rewarding to hear because I'm trying my best to be as faithful to the reference material and original models as is possible in this medium. That 8x6 section on the very bottom isn't as close as I would like, but to include a gearbox that's the way it had to turn out, and it blends in better than I expected so I am happy with it. about the landing gear: they don't retract unfortunately. The legs themselves attach to a click hinge plate which is placed inside the engine. (See pic related.) when I want to convert the engines from landing gear down to flight-mode, I take away the legs, as well as the hinge bricks with the 2x2 curved slopes which represent the opened doors, as well as the brick-built 2x4 section of the half cylinder at the back. Then, I can simply pop on one of the one-piece half cylinders (as in the top pair of engines) and then it's as if the landing gear has retracted and the doors closed. from the beginning I wanted to make each engine identical, so to have functional retracting gears would contradict this. Plus, on the models, it doesn't really seem feasible for the gears to retract inside the engines as implied, so it was never a big priority. The landing gear legs themselves are the same as when I first built them. I might revisit them when the rest of the model is done but I think it's a reasonable approximation, and despite the fact that the ship is only half completed, it's quite heavy already. So it's important for them to have some rigidity and when I get really involved with the details on my builds, structural integrity seems to suffer.
  24. I would like to see a corvette built in blue (or any colour other than the standard Tantive IV scheme) as per Rogue One and Rebels, i think it would look brilliant.
