Bonaparte Posted May 21, 2007 Nice pics, but I don't understand. Why not just buy these in Hong Kong? Aren't there any Lego shops in China?
oo7 Posted May 21, 2007 Nice pics, but I don't understand. Why not just buy these in Hong Kong? Aren't there any Lego shops in China? The tracks were probably S@H exclusives and had to be shipped from another country that S@H ships to directly, as they don't ship to China. And you can't just go shipping whatever you want into China, ya know. The "Communist" government has all sorts of pestering, deranged restrictions on commerce. He had to indeed, smuggle them. snefroe Posted May 21, 2007 this almost looks like a "copmike operation" X-D there's probably also a question of import tax and low valued dollars...

MatthewUSA Posted May 21, 2007 I was thinking on the same lines as Bonaparte. I figured the track and accessories were available in Hong Kong too. Especially since the speed regulators are manufactured there. Maybe the 9V track is too. Thanks for the pics Paul, they are pretty crazy. But being a 9V train fan myself, if I found a good deal, I would probably do the same. Model On.
john cleese Posted May 22, 2007 what did he do with his clothes? Did he leave them at the hotel or something?
highlandcattle Posted May 22, 2007 I doubt this has anything to do with the "communists". He prolly did it for two reasons. USA is the cheapest country for lego. Avoid any taxes
Shadows Posted May 22, 2007 Did he also swallow ziplock baggies full of 1x1 round studs for later retrieval?
Landlubber Posted May 23, 2007 Did he also swallow ziplock baggies full of 1x1 round studs for later retrieval? Nah, you don't need to put them in baggies. They come out pretty easily by themselves. The white ones never look the same though. Brown ones are easiest to smuggle.
