Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Recommended Posts

Swedish television showed up, and you can glimpse my castle (and me behind it at around 0:24 ) in the clip here.

Kaliphlin was represented as well as I brought my two latest builds Repairing the Walls of Petraea and Collecting the Pieces - The Venom of a Red Scorpion.

Nice!

I'm still here although you probably won't see much activity from me for a while. I'm still working on my Aden's Gate build and it seems like my current building phase is 1 gigantic build a year instead of 12 small to medium builds a year. This thing is the biggest build I've ever built and I plan to continue adding to it over the next few years.

Phew, finally home from a long weekend with our annual LUG (Swebrick) exhibition, where I finalized my castle while setting it up on Friday

Just to mention that I did not let Kaliplin down, the walls of Petraea won second place (and earned me a small Star Wars bley parts-pack set) when the TLG representatives selected their favourite builds. Sad to say that's the last time anyone will se that MOC, since I will be tearing it down very soon to start preparing (dismantling and sorting a lot of stuff) for GoH book II.

Another fun thing was that I spotted de Gothia today, even though he was visiting incognito

Etzel was also there (you might remember his Mitgardian embassy in Petraea?) and I tried to persuade him to return to building for GoH, keep your fingers crossed!

Your castle looks very impressive! Can't wait to see some detail shots of it  And I do remember Etzel, his embassy build was lovely. Hope he comes back :classic: Edited by soccerkid6

Great looking castle Gideon! You guys are doing a great job of keeping the guild going here! I have been silent for a few weeks, just busy, but I am in here reading daily(almost)

Due to the birth of my son, I was incredibly quiet around here, and did far more lurking and browsing than building and posting! However, Schmidt of Barqa will making a "re-introduction" soon enough and will also show the sizable force of men he has gathered (all his thievery has given him opportunity to employ a good force of mercenaries!). For great Kaliphlin!

Welcome back Schmidt! Nice if I'm not the only one building in Barqa in book II :classic:

Welcome back to Kaliphlin Schmidt ! It's good to see some veterans returning, as I fear we will become the Nocturnus of Book 2.

I have no problem with us being the guild with the least amount of members, as long as we still have an active core who produce top-quality MOCs for the challenges we will not end up being the "Nocturnus of Book 2".

It also still remains to be seen if the Nocturnus boost we've seen recently is a lasting effect or just a boost from ZC's promotion of the guild combined with the excellent tribe mini-challenge which was easy enough to enter without too much work needed.

As the sub-forum looks right now I would by the way think that Mitgardia is the most dangerous guild when it comes to free-build numbers...even though I think it will be a bit repetitive with these AoM categories

Another WIP pic... this thing takes what little building time I have right now. I keep trying different techniques, colors, and arrangements, so progress is slow. Also I need to place a couple more bricklink orders to finish the interior but due to some big unplanned living expenses this month, my Lego budget won't be recovered until the end of the year or later.

True it may get repetitive, but it does give them plenty of practice before Book II hits. I'm just hoping I'll actually be able to do the smaller challenges that come along. Thankfully, we have a pretty active core group even if the post seem much lower than the other guilds.

On another note...

Masa that MOC is looking pretty sweet!

I think we really need to get our mini-challenges and the academic program running to attract more builders here and hone our skills, but as I said the most important thing is that we manage to mobilize a strong Kaliphlin core for the challenges.

Masa: That WIP looks impressive! Hope you find some cost-effective way to continue on that!

Well, it seemed at first the first mini-challenge was doing well, but now, it has been buried beneath the hordes of tribes entries, I am guessing no one even sees it.

I am sorry, I have been swamped lately, but the good news is that the real challenges are firing up soon it looks like (I still owe a starting build for that too! ugh...) and our member count is pretty good with the quality builders we have. There is a reason Z was making fun of many of you for signing back up, because he would love to have your talent.

Thanks for the well wishes. It was our first son (and first child). That and I'm getting ready to graduate with my second masters degree, so studies have been brutal. But in two weeks classes end and my collection will get the attention it deserves.

In the meantime, I am brainstorming various things to build. I recently acquired 16 more mini-legs through a draft, so it may be time to showcase some of our Dwarven companions!

I think we have about as good (if not better!) a core of good builders as the other four guilds, what we don't have is the huge new member count that some others (especially Mitgardia) have. Right now we're getting swamped with all the builds Mitgardia and Nocturnus with the tribe challenge are putting out there but I'm guessing that will slow down a little, eventually.

And... I got TBBed! :sweet: I'm planning on using the final MOC for GoH too, if I can come up with a suitable storyline.

Couldn't help bragging...

Welcome back, Sschmidt. A baby and a second Masters Degree . . . everybody give this builder a round of applause. And some advice from other GOH parents.

Nice little surprise Kai. Hope to see the rest of it blogged.

Masa, can't wait to see the final product.

I got a good chunk of my LDD Lost Vega Casino build done, and my Nestlands Market build will be worked on tomorrow. Expect lots of statuary in my LDD build, and some parts usage ideas I've been toying with. I figured out how to do a technique I saw in one of Gideon's builds in LDD.

On the topic of magic, how "inventive" are we allowed to be with spells? I've got an idea for my next RTD build, but I don't want it to be too ridiculous.

I think you can be pretty darn inventive. Hard to say without knowing what you're thinking about, but this is a fantasy realm, and magic is definitely part of it.

That's good to hear. I want to do another build with magic in it just to experiment with different effects. Currently I have an effect for a magic shell, push, and the usual flame connecting spells. Hopefully I can pull something really cool.
