Still no news...even a clue about 2018 modular? Although the Detective's office had been officially revealed around mid November 2014, we already had known the theme, hadn't we? ....hmmmmmm

Be patient :) There was so many big releases in short period of time , that it gives sence that Lego is waiting little bit longer...

I looked at the top ten priciest set from each year, via brickset, and it looks like costs went up sharply from 2015 and stayed about the same in 2016. Is there enough consumer demand (and money) to keep up?

2017

  1. 75192: Millennium Falcon:     $799.99
  2. 70620: NINJAGO City:     $299.99
  3. 42070: 6x6 All Terrain Tow Truck:     $289.99
  4. 10255: Assembly Square:     $279.99
  5. 70922: The Joker Manor:     $269.99

total:    $2,009.90
average:    $200.99

If you ignore the 1st and 10th set from each year, so to ignore the Millennium Falcon Elephant in the room:

  • 2017: total: $1,989.92 (-11.56%)
  • 2016: total: $2,249.92 (+38.89%)
  • 2015: total: $1,619.92 (+3.85%)
  • 2014: total: $1,559.92

Maybe LEGO went a little overboard in 2016 and now we are exhausted in 2017?

Another rather interesting thing that your tables show is: More or less same piece count on PR, DO, BB (yes, I know they incresead price 10$ for BB). Respectively, 7th, 10th and not even showing.

Out of all these 40 sets here, funnily, I personally own just 2. DO and Kwik-E-Mart.

And about if there's enough demand on the market to keep up... I'm pretty sure there is. If there wasn't, we wouldn't all be here, right now. Everybody has his own thing. Some collect Star Wars, others Winter Village seta, other 14-wide cars. There's something for everyone, I mean, it's unlikely someone would buy a Technic set and then go on and buy the Simpsons House.

Huh, TLG may be releasing more and more expensive sets, but there are actually fewer ones I'm interested in.

2014: Sea Cow (on wanted list), Cargo Train, Simpsons House, Parisian Restaurant

2015: Helicarrier, Ferris Wheel, Temple of Airjitzu, Kwik-E-Mart, City Square, Detective's Office

2016: Disney Castle (on wanted list), Firehouse HQ, Classic Batcave (on wanted list)

2017: Ninjago City (ordered), Assembly Square, Carousel (ordered)

Looks like 2015 was my sweet spot for expensive sets...

LEGO did report a decline in revenue in 2017. These larger sets do tend to stick around for about two years so people maybe holding off on purchasing them right away or focusing on smaller sets.

That's exactly what I do. I hold off on the bigger sets and focus on the smaller ones & CMFs. Then, I save up for the bigger sets I want which can take months to save up for.

I really hope the next modular won't be delayed because of all the great sets that are released recently.

I got the Old FIshing Store, but there it stops for me. I've been tempted, but I finally decided NINJAGO City feels too unfinished to me. I won't be capable to modify it enough to my liking. Others are interesting, but not interesting enough to justify buying.

Too much choice is stressfull.

I think NINJAGO City is overwhelming detailed and couldn't be better finished for what it is ment to be, but it is a stacking of very different parts of buildings. Those parts aren't finished buildings. The result isn't a finished building neither. NINJAGO City doesn't try to look like a building like the modulars do.

It would take a lot away of its 'cool' factor, but I would have bought it if it wasn't stacking but built horizontally as a city with each part as a full building.

I like it so much, but I can't afford buying all fun LEGO like there is around.

I guess I understand what you´re trying to say, but to be honest almost every modular so far is kinda unfinished...no bathrooms, no proper kitchen or other stufff. Every building has kinda flaw. Most compact is GBHQ but I dont like that boxy shape...

Ninjago city has several buildings conected to each other, and for what it is it is executed better than any bulding before (except PR, AS).... But its matter of choice. I already have it and in my modular city layout it looks faboulous... :)

I've been wondering for a while how it would look in a modular city. Could you share some pics, please? I'm still doubtious about this set. I like it, but it's big money and I kinda agree with @Wesley D

I share that opinion, but the front sides of the modulars are the only parts of them I see after I've built them and those I find coherent and pretty realistic. NINJAGO City feels more like a cyberpunk fantasy setting to play with and let your imagination go wild.

Do you have pictures of it and your city? I'm very curious to see them!

I'm thinking that at least one of those Creator D2Cs has to pertain to the System's sixtieth anniversary next year.

Well, at least I hope that's the case. :purrr:
