LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

Apparently there is some branding from the 2003 Clone Wars series? Would be wild to get another set based off of that.

If we didn't already know the battle pack was based off the battlefront 2 501st, I'd have guessed that Promobricks got confused and it's the blue ARC troopers.

It does make me wonder, as it seems a weird thing to celebrate when they really only celebrate the anniversary of ESB. (Not to mention it's the 40th anniversary of ROTJ). I wonder if this means CW03 might get a set or two.

We had the 20th anniversary of Ep 2 this year and next year will be RotJ's 40th and TCW's 15th so I think this may be a SW wide branding campaign that Lego is associating their sets with. It would be weird to celebrate 20 years of CW with figures that mostly didn't exist until a 2019 BF2 content update.

As for the potential Andor set discussion, I don't see us getting much more for Season One sadly. As others have said, the show doesn't really lend itself over to merchandise as well as something like The Clone Wars or The Mandalorian. The Ambush on Ferrix set covers the first three episodes fairly well. The only other things I could potentially see us getting so far are Luthen's Ship and *maybe* Mon Mothma's speeder. If Lego were to start making more traditional battle packs again, the Imperial Army Troopers and Officers would have been a no brainer. There's some characters I would like to see in Lego form (Cassian's Niamos outfit, Luthen's Coruscant disguise, B2-EMO, Bix, Dedra, Mon, Saw) but a lot of the characters in the show wear basic clothes that should be fairly easy to recreate as purist customs.

The "Clone Wars 20th Anniversary" thing Lego and Hasbro, and likely more of the toy/merchandise companies, are doing is kinda odd to me. Obviously we got the original micro-series and the first EU books, comics, games, etc. in 2003 but it's just kind of a random anniversary to celebrate. Especially because Star Wars didn't even really do much for the AOTC 20th anniversary. Also, Hasbro did some '03 Clone Wars throwback stuff in the last year already. Most people would associate a "Clone Wars anniversary" with the 2008 show, which is actually turning 15 next year. From what we've heard and seen so far, most of these Clone Wars 20th Anniversary toys seem to be based off the more famous show anyway so why not just make this a "TCW 15th Anniversary" instead?

It doesn't really make a difference to me though; this is clearly just these companies looking for a reason to make more Clone Wars-related merchandise because it sells well. I love The Clone Wars, and its merchandise, so I'm not mad! I'm sure Lego is happy too; just about every TCW-related set with clone troopers has sold really well in the last few years. I'd expect more throughout the second half of next year, particularly a new Gunship and the Phase 2 Rex design from The Skywalker Saga. Plus we'll get indirect Clone Wars tie-in stuff with the Ahsoka series next year, which will be a love letter to TCW and Rebels fans.

Weird play for sure if true. I mean I will take either at this point, but a Muunilinst gunship...that would be amazing with some clones.

Considering that we got an AT-TE this year, a LAAT/i next year seems like a natural followup.
I can actually see us getting a version of the Muunilinst 10’s original gunship (which was just a standard LAAT/i, albeit without the bubble turrets). A standard gunship (turrets would be removable) with Fordo, two Pilots (new helmet), two ARC Lieutenants, two P1 Shinies (reused from the accessory pack), three Geonosis B1s, and a Hailfire Droid priced around $160-$180 seems reasonable and plausible.

I mean, the '03 CW wasn't supposed to be anything other than a toy commercial, so I guess it makes sense why more toys of it are being made

I could see this as two different sets at $140 and $30 at least. If we do get a Fordo and ARC Lieutenants, I hope they have cloth pauldrons instead of printed stuff so we can switch out the (probably) printed kama legs and remove the pauldron so we can have a standard captain and lieutenant. A hailfire tank would be perfect though, as the perfect wheel piece just came out in the Avatar helicopter.

I'm going to avoid them just out of spite for the rotten treatment AOTC got for its 20th year. Half joking, half serious...

We are not getting a Gunship for $140, since that is how much the AT-TE costs, and gunships are always larger and more expensive; it would be at least $160. Also, I added the Hailfire Tank to bulk up the set and justify the potential $180 price point, as well as the seven Minifigs with new prints and moulds.

I highly doubt that LEGO would switch from the printed Kamas that they have been using recently, but the pauldrons would obviously be cloth elements (also, Fordo could never double as a standard P1 Clone Captain, since he has an ammo pouch that would need to be printed onto his torso).

I'm gonna pick on you despite the fact that you were half-joking, because I'm irrationally annoyed by this.  Based off all the Promobricks stuff, it really seems that AOTC was going to have almost the exact same thing for it's 20th that ESB got for it's 40th, a big walker set. But because we all whined about cody so much, they changed it to ROTS so they could put him in. It's our fault that AOTC didn't get a big anniversary walker branded as such (but at least the walker still works for AOTC.) It's not like lego maliciously annoyed it out of anti-prequel sentiment like some (not you) keep implying.

I think a Gunship is likely for next year but I don't see it being the Munnilinst 10 version. Excluding the UCS version and miscellaneous polybags or Microfighters, it'll be the first Republic Gunship released in 10 years. It'll probably be the standard version because the Muunilinst 10 version is very niche and technically isn't even canon. (Even though I'd consider the 2003 Clone Wars show to be loosely canon with how much it's referenced elsewhere.) I'd expect a modern Gunship to cost around $160-170 and because of that, Lego is probably going to go the safe route with a standard Gunship with minifigures from either TCW or the films or both.

I can definitely see us getting a random $40ish '03 Clone Wars set though. Maybe a retail exclusive like this year's Fighter Tank. Your Hailfire Droid has merit, and I'd love to get Ventress's Givinex Fighter to go with Anakin's custom fighter from 2015.

Count me as someone who would also love to see more Andor sets, even though we probably won't until season 2.

I do agree that Andor largely doesn't lend itself to toys outside of speeders and such, but was one ship that was featured in the last ten minutes of Episode 8 that I could have seen them making. If it came with the characters in that scene I think it would do quite well.

(I forget how to do spoiler tags so I've kept it vague)

The gunship that Fordo used on Muunilinst is a standard LAAT/i (minus the turrets), though; you are thinking of the one from Hypori.

Is that image with a regular 501st trooper and a specialist 501st trooper with the new mould but w/o accessories real? It looks convincing to me but I heard something about it being a decal. Can anyone confirm?

We're more than a week from the first episodes airing so you're good to be specific.

I get the frustration, but I most certainly was not one of the ones whining about Cody. I like that he now exists but go back and read any of my posts here - you'll find I had zero part in advocating for him on this site (and any other forums or social media). Did Promobricks or someone actually say the Cody lobbying resulted in a change from AOTC to ROTS for the AT-TE? I hadn't heard that. And, I still have to believe AOTC will have its day, just further down the road than I'd hoped.

The only thing we could have missed out on were some specialized Clone Troopers and maybe a newer Ep 2 Anakin/Padme. The decision for an Ep 3 set was the right call if only so we can finally stop talking about Cody. Keep in mind Ep 1 didn't get a celebration for its 20th and I have a feeling RotS won't either.

It seems to be the 20th Anniversary of the dawn of Clone Wars content, starting in 2003 and continuing in 2008. It includes both but casting a wider net includes fans (potential buyers) of either piece of content.

Why Clone Wars (as opposed to the movies) is sort of a broader Q: is all of the fuss about anniversaries in recent years what motivated TLG (meaning we can expect more going forward) (particularly if the diorama sets really are ROTJ-themed)? Or is there analytics (e.g. 501st Battle Pack sales, social media activity) that show demand for it that wasn't there for other content? Do they believe cartoon nostalgia from kids that've recently come of age is a better bet than the PT movie(s) with mixed reviews? D. Some or all of the above?

Ah okay, thanks!

I was referring to that green X-Wing at Saw's base. I doubt it'll happen now but a remake of a classic vehicle but with its own unique look seems like the sort of thing Lego would be all over. Especially when you consider Poe got 3 X-Wings, 2 for TFA alone.

But considering how brief it was, I wouldn't be surprised if TLG didn't know it existed until the episode aired.

Would have been a good opportunity for a long overdue Saw and Two Tubes to boot.

Its actually a little continuity error, the Muunilist gunship is a standard LAAT/i (minus turrets) with blue markings instead of red,  switches to the standard red about 10 seconds before it is shot down, and switches back to blue when we see it through the droid sniper's scope

It just looks grey with a dark secondary colour through the scope, but not definitively either blue or red. You are correct about the continuity error from the time that it is in formation until the shot right before the droid runs up the stairs, though. 👍

No, but they said it was an AOTC set, then they tweeted a gif of Cody and the utapau AT-TE killing the geonosis AT-TE, then the released set was an ep3 at-te with cody. I can't think of a different reason for them to take the effort to change it.

Isn't it black? It was black in Rogue One at least. But anyway, yeah, I totally agree. That'd be a nice set to get, and could get us Saw, who's probably the most important character we've never had a figure of.

That one comes later in the series, once they get the name "Muunilinst 10" after the battle of Muunilinst. Speaking of, the M10 gunship should be sand blue, not dark blue as many MOCs have done. Not sure if there are enough parts in that color, but I think it matches the cartoon best.

So I’m confused, are we getting another 501st trooper pack next year, or is the rumor that the existing battle pack will not be discontinued and instead be given the anniversary logo? I would love for that set not to retire I only got 3 and likely won’t be able to buy more given all the expensive retiring sets I need to catch up on this year.

also did anyone see that rumor for the D2C Jabba’s Palace? I’m freaking out at the rumor that Lyn Me will be included! If Max Rebo’s band is indeed set to appear as rumored that would be incredible. I saw a rumor page that has an extremely long figure list on it and I think it’d be nice if that came true.

No worries at all. That makes sense. My plan is to take some of the Phase 1 clone character packs and stock the AT-TE with them, possibly sell Cody to recoup some of the cost. Super frustrating that LEGO.com only allows 5 clone packs per customer.
