It’s not completely out of the blue tho. The wide release being scheduled for June and them being delayed for a year to coincide with DoD clearly indicates they are meant to tie in with the movie, despite not being based on it :shrug_oh_well:

I meant more how it was handled — two sets for the first movie (one of them being a 150€ diorama), and a single set for the third movie.

No sets at all for the other three, and it doesn't look like there ever will be.

Yeah, that is still a tough pill to swallow. Having built the sets, I all just feels so hollow and half-baked. Not the sets themselves, mind, but rather the approach. And we likely won’t ever get any official explanation.

I hope Promobricks at least will one day explain what was up with those 4 made-up set numbers  A game of telephone perhaps?

At this point we are the proverbial Irina Spalko and Promobricks are the Akator aliens. We want to knoooow. I’m surprised that even LAN personnel were given such half baked information from Lego on this line.

I’m just happy that the sets themselves are pretty damn good for the most part. I would’ve liked to see some new minifigure moulds beyond just the hair / hat piece, but that’s no dealbreaker by any means.

Pretty sure we’ll be getting a new DoD trailer over the weekend at Star Wars Celebration, exciting! We can all ruminate on potential sets that could have been. At this point, I’d even take a single Lego Store exclusive set that contains the main characters of the film like Helena, Voller, and old Indy.

That just makes it worse :laugh_hard: It‘s so weird to see marketing for a movie that TLG should have covered, but decided not to, for whatever reason. Sure, there was FB3 last year, but the hype surrounding DoD is much higher, and almost nobody was sad about that particular movie not getting any sets

Seeing Hasbro merrily reveal their DoD product line-up is just going to be painful.

It’s probably the first time Hasbro are more on the ball than Lego are. Usually it’s the other way around.

So you didn't actually check them all for the extra hats?

The YouTube Channel "Brickstory - Dein Wissen über Klemmbausteine!" reviewed the sets: Indiana Jones Review

If you look at minute 1:20, he says, that he had 2 extra hat pieces in two of the sets.

Lego stores in USA got new truck shipments in today since tomorrow is Good Friday. I was able to pick up all three sets. From what I can tell the duel molded hat does not use ink for the band. It's also part of the duel mold coloring.

I only received one hat per set but I did get an extra whip in the Temple, so it seems like it's not in every batch.

Just finished building all three sets and this is honestly my favorite wave that LEGO has produced in a very long time! Love the attention to detail, and the functions are just so great. I really missed seeing play features like this in LEGO sets which has been really lacking across the board, so all the functions especially in the Temple set are so entertaining. These sets really brought me back to my childhood growing up with the 2008 sets, especially the Temple since the original was the one set I always wanted but was never able to get. Such an amazing nostalgia trip.

Star Wars Celebration is this weekend where they might show a new trailer for DoD as well as merchandise for the film. Obviously I'm not expecting anything from LEGO, but I can dream, right?

Really? I thought it was a “triple mould”. If you’re correct, consider that another nail in the coffin for older Indy. If the hatband and hair truly are moulded together, that means the piece was designed exclusively for young Indy.

I recieved all 3 sets yesterday, only the temple of the golden idol had an extra hat sadly. Weird how inconsistent it seems to be among fans. Either way, I'm happy I at least got 1 extra hat to put on my old indy without the jacket.

The lack of fanfare from TLG on these sets baffles me. The original sets seemed like they were a huge part of Lego's output at the time. As others have mentioned, releasing back before so many licensed themes were prevalent made it feel special.

The video games, specifically The Original Adventures, are part of that iconic original era of TT's Lego games along with Star Wars and Batman. I bet that game alone was a driving factor for most younger IJ fans who didn't grow up with the movies.

Yet these sets seemed to launch quietly. Aside from one Instagram post about the golden idol temple, it seems like they've been uncharacteristically quiet about the return. The whole thing just seems off to me. If anything, I would guess that the complications with the ToD set and possible cancellations of DoD sets have made them skittish about the entire ordeal.

And maybe it's a Disney/Lucasfilm thing, who knows? I've heard that the previously rumored Disney+ show is now no longer happening. And the Bethesda video game has been radio silent ever since its announcement years ago, we still haven't seen gameplay or even a plot summary. Maybe the brand as a whole was being set up for a larger reboot which is now being scaled back.

Either way, it bums me out. I'll definitely pick these sets up once I find them in stores, and I'm glad we got what we did. But after the stellar treatment that HP has gotten in its reboot, I can't help but feel underwhelmed.

So good news and bad news:

Good news: The lego indiana jones sets are up at target.com

Bad news: The lost tomb is... actually $80. What the hell.

What the heck?  And the Fighter Plane Chase is $40.  Literally every other retailer has them at $35 and $40, so I truly don’t understand that at all.  I’m expecting that to go on deep discount soon.  That also sucks because I expect it might turn some people off of the set who don’t realize it’s not actually an $80 set but is $40 elsewhere?

Speaking of, I just built mine today.  Didn’t get an extra hat, if anyone was wondering.

In general, I think it’s a fantastic set.  The minifigures are great (I think the Indy figure looks really good in person, I was iffy on it based on pictures but like it a lot), and I think the mummy is being overlooked as a really strong figure in general.  The Anubis statues look outstanding.  I was just straight up impressed as I built them, the way the faces are constructed looks stellar and the shaping of the legs and arms are perfect.  The wall play feature is fun, and I like that they gave the statues some studs on the side so that you can pose Indy on them.  The only real wish I have is that the set were just a bit more enclosed on the sides, but for 600 pieces at $40, I’m okay with what we got.

Definitely 2 colors. The underside shows the dark brown color I side the hat. It stops at the band and clearly has reinforced dark brown plastic where the band would set.

I can confirm that the reason why the new hat uses a round cowboy dome instead of arched crown on the fedora is to have room for the brown and dark brown plastic to harden together. They should have made the crown a bit taller to .are the proper shape.

I can also confirm the Hat is wider than the original fedora. Not sure why. The would hat is more circular on the brim than longer. The shape fits a cowboy hat shape. They didn't try to use the fedora shape at all.

Crazy mod

I used a dremel  on 3 hats to reshape them to fit Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade and Raider styles. They all have unique crown shapes and I learned the hard way you cannot shave the top down too far or else you hit dark brown plastic. I may need to buy extra hats when they become available on bricklink or pick a brick. After 2 attempts the third hat has a nice shape resembling the Last Crusade fedora. The Raiders shape needs a taller crown. I did my best to make it work but I found the dark brown at the top. I did not follow a standard lego symmetrical design on the hat as it it isn't perfect on any of the film hats. The shape for the point is different on raiders and even isn't symmetrical on both arches. I used reference to hit the correct punch on both hats for each film. I sanded them down using 240 grit - 10000 grit. I think I could perfect the shapes with a few more hats. Until I get ahold of more hats the 3 I have will be fine to use. I wish they did a different mold shape closer to the hat he wears.

Well, this is strong evidence for the theory that the DoD sets weren‘t cancelled. Instead, they must never have been planned to begin with. Otherwise, they would have designed a more versatile piece :shrug_confused:

This also explains why they didn‘t use it for Grant or Hammond in the new Jurassic Park sets.

Love the new trailer! I know it‘s pointless to fantasise about it, but this had just so much set potential :cry_sad: The Tuk-tuk chase, NYC parade, Voller‘s plane, and that temple would‘ve been amazing, but alas…

Wow that new trailer made me so sad. Why would an Indiana Jones movie have music like that in it!? It seems that Disney are really trying to desecrate every beloved franchise and kill off every hero people hold dear. In the last movie Indy was scared of seeing communists in his soup, now he's seeing them in his own family (and behind the camera). :pirate-sad

Eh, the "iT's CaLlEd CaPiTaLiSm" line was pretty annoying. Not film-breaking, but it is aggravating when they shove a random line like that into a film, especially when the film is otherwise good (which I hope is the case here.)

3 minutes ago, BlueberryWaffles said:

Huh?

That stupid line midway through about capitalism, which the original commenter was saying implied Helena, and potentially the film's writers, had socialist leanings. Not really relevant to the set discussion, but I get why he's annoyed.

I'm still mad that the tomb is $80 at target. All of the reviews are warning people "You can get it for half the price anywhere else, DO NOT BUY THIS", but it's been quite a few hours, and no change. Unfortunately, I think it's possible that Target just is charging $80 for some reason.

Also, that new poster looks great! Gah, I wish I could travel to a parallel universe where TLG makes sets for this and they just released a LEGOfied version of the poster :hmpf_bad: But maybe that reality is ruled by mutated demon Furbys, so maybe it’s better to stay here

Really enjoyed the trailer. Certainly looks like there could have been some decent LEGO sets built from this, so a shame we may not get them.

Idk, none of the trailers really did anything for me.

I'm sure the movie will be good tho, Mangold did too great of a job with Logan to fail with the final Indiana Jones movie.

They did the same thing with one of the Disney Princess sets last year.  Not double the price elsewhere but I think it was a 25% markup.  I e-mailed them about it but never got a response.  About a month later they lowered the price to rrp.  I bought my Tomb set from Barnes & Noble because they were the only ones around here that actually had it in stock.  I was considering ordering the Plane one from Target but won't because they are charging over rrp.  Just waiting for Lego or someone else to get the Temple in without a month wait for delivery.  Not placing an order with Amazon for delivery a month out just to have it ordered.
