Elephant Knight Posted August 8, 2015 (edited) So, some of you may know that I have a Lego Pirate web-comic, and a point is coming up where I will need a port, and since the old port has long been demolished, I am starting a, rather large, project. After a week, this is what I have so far: Hurricane Bay 001 by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr The whole thing. Hurricane Bay 004 by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr The six sections that will make up the wharf. Hurricane Bay 005 by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr Yellow Frog Tavern. Hurricane Bay 007 by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr I really don't like this little fort. Will definitely need to redo it. Hurricane Bay 006 by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr Just half of MMV expanded. Hurricane Bay 008 by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr Currently working on the Magistrate's office In case you didn't notice, the whole thing is modular, for a variety of reasons. First, easier to store and even build. Second, if I need to access a certain building for inside photos, I can simply remove the desired section, instead of trying to work around buildings. Thirdly, it is much easier to add or destroy a building. Need a buidling which I don't have? Build one? Need parts from this one? So long, sucker! And Fourthly, maybe I could make it a stander (Like Moonbase, but for pirates!) and use it at a con. Well, thanks for looking! Captain Dee Posted August 9, 2015 This is a fabulous start. The scale is great (ports should always be big!) and I like the arrangement. The stonework is nice and the multitude of wooden docks is good. I agree that the small fort doesn't look the best but otherwise the buildings are fine. I look forward to seeing the finished product - possibly with a few ships to go with it! Keep it up.
Staslegomaster Posted August 9, 2015 An epic beginning. Judjing by the last photo, you just robbed a large LEGO store to get ready creating that! Your port will be impressive.
Rotaser Posted August 9, 2015 At first I expected a modell the size of Whitecap Bay, but I was really impressed, when I saw what it really is. It looks really good, although I would love to see some detailed shots (*hint*). I would suggest the problem of the fort (or rather keep, I think) is tha plain colour scheme. A few more spots of black and red might solve this. Are you going to add some smaller structures to the port later? Such as cranes, market stands, a signal fire and the like?I am honestly excited to see what will come next. One more thing I would like to ask for, though: Could you show the port with a docked ship? I just would like to see both in comparison.
Kalais Posted August 9, 2015 Looks promising, good start :) Gonna check for updates.
Alfadas Posted August 9, 2015 Looks very cool! Keep it up!
blackdeathgr Posted August 9, 2015 Woohoo... too many bricks! A very promising start. Don't forget to add some trees/plants too. I am a sucker for palm trees :P
Elephant Knight Posted August 9, 2015 Well, as said, this is only the beginning. I will be adding things to the dock such as market stalls, lampposts, a crane or two, lots of figs (Hopefully) Some palm trees will get planted, most likely on the sandbar. I actually have never heard of a signal fire before. No, I didn't rob a Lego store to do this project. At least not recently. Going to be gone for most of the day today, so sometime during the week I shall try and take a picture with a ship or two. EKnight.
James Wellington Posted August 9, 2015 Really cool so far. I hope to see it when it's done. Great job.
Plaid Beard Posted August 10, 2015 I love the modularness (pretty sure that's a word) of your project, and the scale is awesome. I especially like the simplicity of your docks and the way they add to the scene. I can't wait to see where this goes.
mattb483 Posted August 10, 2015 (edited) Great job so far elephant knight! I love the way you did the modular, easy to take apart and move if need be. My favorite building so far is the magistrate's office. It looks similar to governer swans house with that round driverway. You should put a fountain in where the green patch is in the front. It would make a nice addition. Looking forward to the progress! Edited August 10, 2015 by mattb483
Elephant Knight Posted August 11, 2015 (edited) As a matter of fact, a fountain has gone in there. Here are some more pictures. The magistrate's office is now complete.next building will probably be a blacksmith's shop, and after that, on to building generic houses. James Wellington Posted August 11, 2015 Wow looks great. Is it possible we can get an interior picture?
Cousarmy0001 Posted August 11, 2015 I think you sell yourself short on the fort. Assuming it's more of a blockhouse for the local garrison/gendarmerie, and not a coastal defense structure, I think it's just fine. You could maybe add in a few grey bricks or something so that all of the structure is not pure white, to give it a more realistic look, but other than that, I think the design is good. I completely agree with above. I think that, Elephant, you shouldn't get rid of that fort. I actually really like it. It was the one thing that first stood out when I looked at the overview of the city. Please keep it...
Elephant Knight Posted August 11, 2015 Thanks for the vote of confidence on the fort. I really am not too sure what it is about that I don't like, but something is just off to me. Maybe the pictures give out the details better. Also, I should put some figs and a couple cannons on there some time. Interior pics may have to wait awhile. Not that there is much interior to take pictures of... EKnight
Kolonialbeamter Posted August 12, 2015 You're off to a great start here, EKnight, modularity is key! May I suggest to keep the fort building - if you can spare the parts - and maybe redesignate it a prison. Some wall details/imperfections would be great for the office building, to avoid the 'white-wall-syndrom'. And you could add some vegetation, not to let it look like a chess board. I really like where this is going. Btw, where is this going, I mean how large do you plan to build this port in the end? Best regards, KB
Captain Braunsfeld Posted August 12, 2015 This is going to be real fine - keep going! I'm also working on a harbour but your interesting puzzle piece approach might make me change my current design.
Elephant Knight Posted August 12, 2015 How large? It will be two layers deep, three if you include the wharf. One layer of 32x32 modules, one layer of 48x48 modules. I can't really spare the parts to make another white building, my white collection has been rather sucked dry, thanks to a very large Blacktron 2 spaceship. For now, the Fort shall stay.
