The Mask Of Creation looks absolutely beautiful. I applaud the designers of that mask for coming up with such a great design.

Makuta must've stolen the Mask Of Braking, because the Hype Train can't stop!

If the new plot is centered around magic, it's certainly going to have a negative impact on my view (and purchases) of the new line. It just doesn't feel right to wave a magic wand (no pun intended) and declare that the plot will be completely consist in every way because magic. Even NINJAGO isn't doing that, while we've never gotten an explanation for the Elemental Weapons (hints, but nothing concrete) they're certainly not made out to be magic plot Macguffins (even if they kind of are)

can i just blacklist the words "hype train" from my entire life

Would you prefer a different hype vehicle, such as a hype plane? Perhaps a hype submarine?

What if it's just changed to "Hype Locomotive? :P

Also mask looks cool. Disappointed no official set images. Not sure how to feel about new mask attachment. That's going to hurt MoCing.

just because it is the mask of creation, doesn't means it wont be a reboot.

The mask should be on Artakha after all. and here it's just floating around, waiting to be found

As far as I know, Velika was about to kill Artakha and a few others off, so maybe he succeeded? Of course, assuming it's a continuation.

Speaking of continuations, I hope they resolve the plot with The Shadowed One and the viruses along with the 20 other unresolved plots. (Again, if it is a continuation)

...are you complaining that new Bionicle will have magical masks, like it always did? (except it was eventually explained to be the whole sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic thing but whatever. in 2001, masks were magic.)

While the mention of magic, and the suggestion that the mask is made of gold, do make me worry about simplification of the story, the fact that this is in fact the mask of creation pleases me. I just hope that this is a continuation, but, if that were the case, one wonders who could possible relieve Artakha of his mask. :/

The specialised attatchment points are also a bit disappointing, as this means the masks can only really attatch to the new head and nothing else. Hopefully an axel was just removed from the cgi for the sake of aesthetics.

But what the hell, BIONICLE'S BACK!! :cry_happy:

also, hype toa terrain crawler is best hype vehicle.

Having masks the flip up like visors would be awesome! (Please lego, removable eye pieces)

I'm down for this. Edited by arc

Having just looked at BZP's post on it, I just noticed, the new Bionicle logo seems to have the same writing on it as the mask of creation does.... The plot thickens...

OMG It's the Nuva symbols on the mask! :O Also, has it occured to anyone that this may actually not be a reboot, but a prequel?

BIONICLE has always had magic. Magical masks, magical elemental powers, etc. Even when things like where masks came from were explained (i.e. they are made from magical disks which are made from a magical substance called Protodermis), it all boiled down to magic in the end. The difference is that with the new BIONICLE, the writers are calling it as they see it. I can't complain.

And yes, Ninjago's elemental weapons and the like ARE magic. Even if they don't directly call them that, that's what they are.

Again, I think this is a good thing. Honestly, I think the way the LEGO brand name was diminished by the old BIONICLE branding was a bit of an indignity. It was, of course, a product of its time. The LEGO Group was not doing well, so it's easy to see how they might have thought the LEGO brand was more of a liability than an asset. But nobody would make that mistake today. Today, its ties to the LEGO brand makes BIONICLE stronger, not weaker.

It's also easy to see why BIONICLE's old branding might have caused problems towards the end. There was a lot of hate directed at LEGO for ending BIONICLE, and some people didn't even entirely realize that LEGO had created the brand in the first place and been in charge of pretty much every aspect of it ever since. If it had been branded as "LEGO BIONICLE" from the beginning, I doubt the "From the makers of BIONICLE characters" icon on the first wave of Hero Factory packages would have been anywhere near as necessary — everybody would know it was from the same creators as soon as they saw the LEGO logo on it.

The best thing that could happen to the brand, in my opinion. The Lego name is no longer a point of shame, but of pride, and the name has been adjusted to match.

I fail to see how the nuva symbols would be relevant, if this were set before even the mata storyline. BUT, since this is Artahka's mask, maybe the nuva symbols came from him, and not the other way around.

Also, thinking about the mask connection, is they attatch at the sides, why are there big ugly round holes on the front of the masks that look like injection points?

EDIT: is this does turn out to be a reboot, I suggest we call is BIONICLE: NUVA. :classic:

I thought about that once, just not sure how that would work with the current story.

Impressive. They write a fascinating back-story...that tells us absolutely nothing and which both sides can claim for being either a continuation or a reboot.

Except that apparently the Great Beings were also First Builders.

I don't see any "big ugly round holes".

The Nuva-esque symbols could simply be a motif chosen for nostalgia and nothing more. I do think they give a better look than, say, Matoran lettering would have.

im glad they go for magic personally. it avoids some unnesesary explanations

if anything, this magic is just technology they dont understand. (hopefully. that's why I loved 2001-2003 so much, technologically inept ROBOTS. beautiful)
