  1. Hey Guys! So, I have made a Lego ideas Project based off of the Polar Express. The Polar I made and takes a lot of inspiration from the Lego city trains. Here's the link to the project page: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/150722 Fun Fact: Locomotive is Tender Driven, and houses 2 power functions train motors for extra power.
  2. hello! So I have finally realized I need larger driver wheels than the standard TLG size. I know BBB has XL drivers but in order for me to model that in LDD I need to know the dimensions of them (in Lego) ie. how many suds in diameter. The standard TLG wheels that come with Emerald Night are 4 Studs and on a Technic brick there are 3 wholes between each axle. How many wholes are between the axles on BBB XL driver? I can't seem to find that info on his site or anywhere else. I'm working on an 8-wide FEF-3 and the standard wheels are just too small... :-( If I plan to use BBB XL wheels I need to figure how how much longer it needs to be. https://flic.kr/p/D7gKeQ
  3. G'day everyone, I started working on my new city layout a couple of days ago so the attached photo's are the WIP so far. I just need a few more straight pieces to finish the sidings and also a quite a few base plates to cover the boards. I also need a name for my city so feel free to drop some suggestions! Looking down to the left side of the town - there is a cargo terminal on the left, fairground in the middle and farming on the right. Behind the fairground will be a mountain region. To the bottom of the photo will be a recycling depot and fueling depot. We then move into Main Stree - there is a space between the PR and the FB for the DO which I'm getting for Christmas. To the right of the station will be a bus terminal. Right hand side of Main Street - bus terminal and general business etc. Right hand side of the layout - Beach and houses to the far left, Emerald Night workshop on the right. Can you spot the Foreman sleeping on the job? She wasn't very helpful! So there you go - lots of base plates required - might throw in a mountain and maybe a tunnel in somewhere so I can build on top - I have the Mine set and Harbour set to build up as well!! Plus I need to find room for a baseball field!! Arhhhh lots to do lots to do!! Thanks for looking and don't forgot your City name suggestions!
  4. Hey everyone! this is my 1st post! I found this really cool Lego ideas project for a lego 4-6-0 ten wheeler so please help the model get 10,000 supporters! here is the link to the page: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/129767 No, it isn't mine, but I LUV IT!
  5. Hi all It's been a while since I posted last but as you'll see I've been busy working on a new layout and storage. I was sick of having to pack up at the end of the day so decided I needed something permanent. But it was catch 22 with our Lego room being in our cars home too. After some research I came up with this and I hope you all enjoy. Trains on the cold concrete floor are no more. The new large table so I can now have a permanent display. But what about the car? After a few rough layouts and a bit of paint we now have a base to start our township. But what about the Car? Well, I hooked up a winch, added some cable and pulleys and now the car can park underneath while I get to enjoy a permanent layout (when down of course!). Here's a link to a few more pictures of the lifting design. It's still a work in progress in regards to the layout but it's getting there and I'll post a few updates soon. and done...! Hope you enjoyed it. Cheers Brendan
  6. Hello Eurobricks! My name is Isaac, I am a student living in England and have been playing with lego since I was 4, like many of you, i'm sure! I've been doing animations on Youtube sporadically for a good 6 years now, mostly related to the hit BBC show Doctor Who. However I don't like to feel limited to it. A lot of the lego creations that I share will be made as sets or props, like some train projects i am working on; but I will occasionally enjoy creating ideas for commercial sets. Who doesn't! I'm looking forward to sharing ideas and suggestions with everyone, and I hope I can be a help where I can! All the best, Isaac
  7. I bought the LEGO CITY Cargo Train #60052 on ebay for 149.99usd, I was wondering would it be good if I bought another one to increase my train tracks and train parts? Or look for another train set? I've seen other train sets but they are way up in price compared to the curret city Cargo train. And the high speed train with the small station doesn't look that great for 120.00USD on ebay.. Could anyone give me some advice on what to buy. Looking to expanding my collection while not trying to spend such huge amounts of money on the Maersk or other expensive trains ) :
  8. Hello all, I was trying some Ideas in LDD and was wondering if this will work. Narrow gauge - L gauge Cross by UrbanErwin(EPJL), on Flickr Also I was wondering which pieces are required for a 1/4 of a circle of narrow gauge track. This because I don't want to spend too much on this. Thanks, Erwin New download
  9. Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has tried using one of the other PF motors (8883 M-Motor, 8882 XL-Motor or 88003 L-Motor) to power a train, rather than the standard train motor? I'm curious as to which is best for use in trains, as I'd like to do a train where I don't have to rely on the standard train motor. Ideally I wouldn't use the XL Motor, as that looks a bit big to hide in a 6-wide train. I've looked for a thread like this but can't find one. I may have missed it however. Thanks!
  10. Hello everyone, I've been enjoying Eurobricks for a while, and I'm always amazed at the great MOCs, MODs, useful news and information here. So thank you all, and I look forward to seeing you around the forums. Doom2099
  11. After a break from building and the various forums, I'm back up to speed and building again. (It's good to see the standard of building/posts on here is as good as ever btw.) My latest project has been modular layout with trains on 2 levels and using both 9v and 12v track. If you're on brick.ie or Brickish you may have seen it, the image gallery is here: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=528346 And video of it in action is here: It's in 4 sections, each 5 x 3 baseplates (32x32 studs) in size with all the wiring for the 12v points and signals contained in the sections the points etc are on. This image shows the 12v switches built into the viaduct at the back of the layout, I ran a wire from each set of switches to a 12v power unit, each loop had it's own controller. In total 6 trains could run at any given moment. Andy Sorry, posted this in the wrong forum, Admin please remove, I'll repost in Train Tech.
  12. We all go through dark ages, and another is fast approaching and I have decided to considerably downsize my collection of models. Before listing them all on Ebay I wanted to give Eurobrick Members / LUG'S the opportunity to acquire them as they would make a sizable diorama for someone willing to have the space. In all cases please assume the models are 98% complete, i.e. there may be occasional part changes but these should not effect the appearance of the model. Not all mini-figs are present, and assume no instructions. Where possible I link to photos for your viewing pleasure. Please be aware that shipping from Switzerland is not cheap. There is an online price calculator from Swiss Post. There is an automatic limit of 2cm package thickness which is generally not possible to keep for any model. E.g. a 12V wheel in padded envelope is already larger than 2cm. Consequently most postage to Western Europe will be over 15 CHF. Maxi-Brief parcels have to have a weight under 2kg and Length + Width + Height under 90cm, with no single dimension of more than 60cm. This can be achieved for small models, otherwise it will via Small Packet Post. Some recent examples: 3.5kg parcel to Belgium: 45 CHF: Incuded Tracking and Insurance 4 kg parcel to Holland: 49 CHF: Included Tracking and Insurance 500g parcel to UK: 15.50 CHF: No tracking, no insurance For addresses in Switzerland it costs between 9-15 CHF depending upon weight, or we can arrange a pickup from Zurich-Oberland. For addresses in Germany I can be persuaded to take the train to Konstanz and post the parcel using DHL prices is then about 6-10 Euro (up to 10kg). The prices are based upon average selling from bricklink in the past 6 months, and ebay (tends to be cheaper). I am always open to sensible offers, or multiple set discounts. However we both know the realistic prices so please, nothing silly. This list will appear in subsequent posts so that I can easily edit the items. However as a flavour here are the harbour and cargo sets
  13. After spending lots of time playing LEGO Duplo (mostly trains) with my kids and also building some larger layouts myself I got few questions regarding (mostly) design of Duplo tracks. I asked them at Polish LUGPol forum but some were not answered (it seems LEGO Duplo is not popular enough) so I’m reposting them here hoping for larger audience and thus better answers. I believe that LEGO parts (which includes Duplo tracks...) are done carefully and decisions are unlikely taken without evaluating many issues. So the radius used for curved tracks must have some reasons behind it. I don’t know which and I would very much like to know. Since I already know much of troubles caused by that choice. Read further. (1) Curved Tracks Radius A single Duplo curved track spans on a 30° angle. Three such tracks make a right angle. But the simple staff ends here. Ever tried to connect the ends of such right angle with Duplo bricks? It failed, didn’t it? You could actually make it but that would require to strain those tracks a bit (they are significantly flexible so it doesn’t require any strength nor does it seem to make any breaking risks). If you would do that with a hole circle of 12 curved tracks you would not get a circle but an ellipse with short radius of 17 Duplo studs and long radius of 18 Duplo studs. The actual radius of a circle is somewhere around 17.5 Duplo studs. It might be aligned with LEGO studs, I haven’t checked that but I doubt it. This might seem insignificant especially that the tracks are strained so little that it is not visible to someone who “doesn’t know”. But still this is some disadvantage that shows when you try to build something bigger or mount everything on a single solid base (possibly done with plates). Since the strains add up and things start to fall apart easily. (2) Curved Tracks Alignment to Straight Tracks So I looked further wondering to what the curved tracks align well. Sadly without success. Another failed example is when you connect two curved tracks in opposite direction. That way the lines entering and leaving the two tracks are parallel. Its tempting to see if you can mount it on a plate. But as it shows again it is not possible. Such a connection of tracks does not align well with Duplo studs (and thus also straight tracks...). (3) Long Trains In my experience a train having two or three railcars significantly slows down on longer curves. The cars are long and wheels don’t turn around in no way which means that the do no align well with curved track and cause some friction. With more railcars you can see how the train slows down and sometimes even hear that. With four or more railcars its nearly sure the train will stop on a longer curve. Would the curve track have a larger radius this issue would be (somewhat) smaller. Now knowing the drawbacks of current curved track design we might wonder what are its advantages so that the trade off goes well. Anyone? And this is still not end to the questions. (4) Move Direction Why current locomotives do move in only one direction? Would changing the button to a three state switch (forward, stop, backward) make it much more expensive? Or would it be much more difficult for kids? Current sets with locomotives are from 2 years. How it was with the old “smart locomotive”? As I think it was far more “difficult” and “complex”. (5) Locomotive Anchors I find it rather odd that (current) Duplo locomotives don’t have anchors on both sides as all railcars do. This way making the locomotive push the train rather than pull is rather difficult and likely to cause derailment when using more complex layouts (like ups and downs or junctions). (6) Corrugation (I’m not sure if this is the correct word for it) Tracks and the engine wheels of the locomotive are corrugated. Why is this needed? As it seems LEGO trains don’t use it. So why Duplo trains need it? Any “rational” for those? And as a final question. (7) Does LEGO provide precise specification of their “bricks”? Like exact dimensions and sizes or power of motors and so on?
  14. Hi I'm new in this forum (well, actually I have been reading here for a year) so I'll do something myself. Here I am presenting my Lego Thomas and Friends range that I have designed totally in LDD. It took me about 1 year till now (or even longer) to design all the engines. First we start with Thomas Then Edward, I designed the driving wheels higher as I would use Big Ben Bricks medium drivers for that model. Henry follows Then Gordon the Express Engine Duck the Great Western Oliver Arthur Molly Stanley Annie and Clarabel to go with Thomas The red coaches A well wagon Bulgy Maithwaite Station (not finished) And finally non-Thomas related stuff A narrow gauge train layout with the existing lego track A big train station And at last a GNR C1 Atlantic engine. That is the only engine that I actually have in real bricks, however the LDD model is a little bit different - I don't have green wheels and am planning to buy the XL Big Ben Bricks drivers which should look better. I built the model out of 2 Emerald Nights, however I don't have actual pictures for the real version. I hope you enjoyed it! ScotNick P.S.: I actually wanted to upload my Thomas model on Cuusoo, but as someone else made a (not the best) Thomas model before me they didn't allow me to. P.P.: Sorry, I tried to upload the pictures here but it didn't work so I put just the link there. Edit: Found out how to post the pictures directly.
  15. Wow, I should have written picture heavy......anyway best get back to the show now as I still have 4 hours left and there are still plenty of children looking and playing......Brick On !
  16. I'm new on Eurobricks. Just wanted to share the project that I'm doing in the evening hours with a couple of colleagues: Sioux.NET on Track. See more at https://siouxnetontr...wordpress.com/. Sioux .NET on Track is one of the expertisegroups of Sioux Embedded Systems in Eindhoven, a group of enthusiastic colleagues who come together after working hours to get experience with Microsoft.NET (mostly C# and WPF). To make learning fun, we develop an application for making a full automated Lego train, using Lego Mindstorms and Lego Power functions. One of the things I managed to do, is to use the NXT as a remote control for the EV3. You can see a small movie at our Youtube channel: It is not a finished product, but you can have the source code for free. The current part that I'm working on, is the Candy Rotation Stock. See a video of the prototype here: Please feel free to leave a comment here or at the Blog. Let me know what you think. Best, Hans Odenthal
  17. This is my city layout that I presented for the first time at Bricktober - Perth 2014. I was the first time I was able to assemble the entire layout in one place and run a train around it. 18. Hey Everybody, I've just started building a semi-permanent layout upstairs at my house (i.e. not on the floor) and thought I would share. Comments, suggestions, etc. are welcome! This is just the start, I obviously have to move my modulars in, get more baseplates/roadplates, throw a couple more trains on the rails (metroliner, custom E7 set). I will also be adding a tunnel with mountain above for my WIP narrow gauge layout. More on the Tweetsie (shown here) layout and custom E7's in the future. I'm awaiting a few BrickLink orders for ballast, trees, scenery, so more to follow! BlueBrick plan: Full layout (with trains moved for clarity): Yard view (looking head on to the trains): Album with full-res here.
  19. Hey Guy I know I have been asking a lot of questions (you guys have good ideas) but I was wondering I do not have a lot of room for a layout right now. I was wondering If anyone has any simple ideas to make every inch count right now I have a sq. of track, and about a 40" by 40" space to work with. All ideas are welcome! Thanks SO much -RailCo
  20. Hey Guys I am wondering if anyone knows a good shop (Online) that sells lego trains (Mostly 9v and PF) for a good price other than Bricklink and a Lucky eBay find? Thanks so much -RailCo
  21. Hey Guys! I found this cool MOC of a Lighted train signal by "camlegofun"! I couldn't get the picture as it is on Lego ideas (link removed) As a Train Fan this is a Great Idea for a product! Come Check it out! Thanks for reading, RailCo
  22. Hey Guys I found This MOC Someone Made under name of "camlegofun" who made a great simple Lighted signal! I was unable to get the picture but you can see his/her work at LEGOIdeas: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/71391 Maybe we can make this become a reality? Just thought it would be good to share it, Rail Co Update: He has updated the page explaining it better and even a V2 design.
  23. I've decided to make a set of Southern Railway (ish) 7 wide (ish) freight wagons and a loco to go with, and to that end, I wanted something fairly simple to model while I get the hand of 7 wide building (so far, it's a b******d). I've selected the Maunsell Q class 0-6-0 tender engines and so far, it's all going OK (after a lot of farting around getting the footplate to match along the whole engine without fouling the driving wheels). The Prototype. Progress so far. Unfortunately, I'm really having some issues with the boiler. I've tried using the 4 wide round parts, but there seems to be no obvious way to connect them to the front and back without some ugly gaps and too many compromises. Do you guys have any suggestions as to how I could make that work? Alternatively, I'm gonna try the 5 stud wide cheese wedge built boiler I've seen online, but I'm not entirely sold on that either. Also, does anybody have a suggestion on 2 similar methods to build a boiler I could combine to show the slightly wider smokebox?
  24. Hello, I wanted to upload my 15+ vehicles from the 1940's to today in a way that was quick and efficient, thus this thread is about getting the pictures out with side notes structured like this: (picture goes here) 19## yellow semi truck Built 20## Inspired by set ####, known as "Insert set name" LDD file: (if available) LDD missing parts / prints You are free to comment, but please note: the remaining 10 or so vehicles are (going to be) in another topic, because they are more Adventurer's / 1920's themed. I would also appreciate a mod indexing these MOCs in their respective topics. Also, please note these were taken by me and a family member with a cellphone camera, so please take that into consideration with the picture quality / cropping. I also only took one picture per vehicle. 25. Hello, This topic is devoted to my latest project, building the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World in Lego. Hello, For this project, I am planning to in some shape or form recreate the firework show "Wishes!" that is at the Magic Kingdom. I have been reviewing different ideas and brainstorming for the few weeks. I have seen some people do similar things and use a projection type of system, however in order for this to work everything must line up perfectly so that the show looks realistic. I have also seen a actual miniature recreate of "Fantasmic!" in Disneyland, however I am not sure if it is a good idea to light small fireowrks off around Lego, much less inside. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can recreate the show?
