I agree with this, it seems rather unnecessary quite often to include those small patches of flesh on the torsos. Like on Blackbeard's torso, for example.
-
I agree. Very nice landscape, but the mixing of figures is an eye sore to an old, conservative LEGO-ist like myself.

They aren't out yet.

I got myself this beauty today, MISB: I'm quite pleased with this purchase, as I've had my eyes on it for a while. Cost me roughly $100, not a bad deal at all. Especially not in this condition. I also got 7199 The Temple of Doom and 7627 Temple of the Crystal Skull, both MISB as well. Not gonna keep those, though.

Smart move, buying an entire box makes much more sense for the average consumer now. Personally, I'm only interested in a limited amount of figures per series - and will likely stick to Bricklink.

Fantastic work, all of it. Very, very well done!

That would be awesome, I really enjoyed the last two Castle calendars.

Video? What video?

My old LEGO from my childhood is, sadly, in such a sad condition that I find little use for most of it nowadays. I have gathered some pieces that are still in good condition from the Castle and Pirates themes which I have cleaned and mean to include into my new collection, though. I never buy used sets, only new - and generally have a hard time mixing used and new pieces. I'm a bit OCD-ish on that aspect, I actually go out of my way to find MISB copies of older sets. Hence why I have yet to actually include the old Castle and Pirates pieces I prepared into my main collection.

You're right, my bad. Let me make it up to you all by complaining that the Lion Knights' red and white sweathers aren't exactly super historically accurate. For shame, LEGO! I vote we burn the designers on the stake. Who's with me?
-
I find it amusing that some people complain about how everyone wearing the same shields/hereldy is ahistorical and unrealistic in connection with a buildable kids' toy... What about the fact thats we have buildings that are most often only half and/or completely out of proportions, the inclusion of fantasy elements like wizards and dragons, clothing and buildings being too colorful, all the figures having yellow skin, etc...? LEGO has never, and will never become, realistic. I find this whole discussion to be silly, it's not meant for historical accuracy - it's meant for fun. I love history myself, and have a particular fondnes for the middle ages, but I see and enjoy LEGO for what it is... instead of arbitrarily trying to give it attributes it doesn't have.

That's cool, congratulations.

Well Knights Kingdom I was mentioned in the description for the Evil Knight, do you think Cedric The Bull is on his way back as well? I think those descriptions are meant as nothing more than cameo mentioning of LEGO classics, to cater for the older fans. It's really good to see two such strong Castle figures in this new series, and I'll be getting multiples of at least the Heroic Knight - and the Forestwoman as well, if possible. They're both absolutely great, and I can't hardly wait to get my hands on them - along with several other figures from this and the previous series. While I do enjoy the look of the Heroic Knight (and wow, that sword!) and think his shield is a nice and sleek improvement of the Crown Knights' shield, I hope they'll go with something different for the upcoming Castle sets.

Now nearly 2 years after writing this, I have a slightly different perspective on certain aspects... mainly KKII. Yes, the yellybean knights are horrible, horrible wastes of otherwise good plastic. And most of their sets are mediocre at best, terrible at worst. And while they include several different shields, none of them manage to impress me much. But on the other hand, Vladek's faction has really grown on me; several, if not most, of the Vladek sets are actually pretty good and high on my wanted list now, due to their great colours, better than average figures and amazing shields. And the structures themselves are often pretty good as well, like the previously mentioned Vladek's Dark Fortress as well as sets like Dark Fortress Landing and Vladek's Siege Engine. In fact, I consider Vladek's faction (let's call them 'Scorpion Knights') to be in the top 5 of all-time greatest Castle factions nowadays! Has anyone else drastically changed their opinions on a theme or subtheme like that over time?

If LOTR and a new Castle theme can live side by side, I'm all for it. I do enjoy some of the LOTR sets, and personally think that Helm's Deep is one of the best LEGO sets (if not *the* best LEGO set) released since MMV. That said, however, I'd sacrifice LOTR for Castle if needed be... I wept inside when Kingdoms was cancelled, as I really think they had something good going there that just kept getting stronger and stronger. But now that it's over and a bit distant, I no longer want to see more Kingdoms - but hope instead that they bring us new factions (or, preferably, re-imagined old factions). As much as I loved the Dragon knights, the colors on the Lion knights did little to nothing for me... and I'd like to see them replaced. But of course, I won't exactly mind seeing more Kingdoms... it's just not my #1 wish.

This whole project is very innovative and filled with striking imagery, but the above picture really stands out to me for some reason. I absolutely love it! I vaguely remember the story it's from, but can't actually recall anything except for those animals standing on top of each other...

The name "Imperial Flagship" alone ought to disqualify it from winning, since it's the most misleading name EVER.
-
Yeah when I saw it, I thought it was just a modded version of the actual set. I did wonder why he had replaced the figures... and then I saw the date.

The clipper all the way. Better colors, better sails, better overall look.

Amazing creation, very stunning work.

Great moc of an under-appreciated film.

Thanks for the pictures. They're interesting, but not overly impressive as potential sets.

Making a Traditional Castle out of Helm's Deep
Hive replied to sealslip3's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I haven't bought it yet (waiting for a good sale, sadly missed out on two recent ones due to being slow), but my plan is for it to function as a town wall for MMV. -
This is really, really good. Although soccerkid6 has a point.

I simply can't follow your line of thought on this one. Why can't people have an opinion on which LEGO period was best just because they are not currently in the target audience? That makes no sense.
