I think you can use one of these to save cutting a Technic pin in half (ouch).
Also machine screw, washer and nut would work too but that's not purist.
If battery operation time is an issue, it is not hard to modify the battery box to take a 9V DC power wall wart.
Back in the old days, we used to isolate segment of tracks into blocks. Each block is controled by its own power controler.
Lots of action. It's entertaining but the scenery is jerky. Some viewers may get motion sickness from it. It may help to tape down your base plates and secure your ship's deck. Use a solid strong tripod. Careful of your hand getting into the shot (unless that was your intention).

It seems that those Union Pacific gas turbine verandas have a bit of that 60098 Heavy Haul Train engine style in them. At least the second generation ones. I believe the first and third generation have full cowl type body like the EMD F7/F9.
