The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
JeffBuilds replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Oh, I'd LOVE to see Neo-Blacktron come back as a network of Space Pirates with experimental alien tech, led by an Ogel-lord type. Actually... I shouldn't... but here, lookit-!!! I wanted to save this for a massive project; I'm talking an ARG, Youtube Teasers paying homage to mid 90s ads for Legos, all culminating to a Lego Ideas Campaign to launch Blacktron inspired MoCs. But yeah, I'm all for Trans Green and black (possibly some rogue colonists came into contact with the alien tech from the Mission to Mars line of sets and repurposed it to suit their own ends.) Their ships reflect this as well, utilizing lots of curves and bubble cockpits. (imagine a bigger version of the Blacktron Flagship, the Renegade, but revitalized in a Black and lime green color scheme with pieces and parts from 2015...!!!) They're Space Pirates, minifigures are mostly classic yellow, with Cybernetic augments/detailing on them (think Lego Agents or Ninjago: Rebooted. the bionic arm components as well as cybernetic eye pieces.). They operate on the fringe of space, in the ruins of old Blacktron 2 installations, such as the Alpha Centari Stronghold, and they're regularly "The Villain of the Week" going up against Galaxy Force, using some manner of nefarious tech that ultimately backfires. This particular MoC I have linked here... this one is special. I took the stock model for Kai's Fire Mech ( stock model 70500), Did a palette swap and added shoulder plates and a Stud-shooter, as well as an enclosed cockpit. the back has a simple, yet effective dual thruster jump pack, with Trans green bionicle elements to emulate takeoff jets. The Minifigure inside is the Supreme commander of the Blacktron forces, with black legs, a Space Villain Torso and Helmet, and a solid black visor. I'm not going to mention what head I use, because I want to make a major selling point for this campaign that nobody knows the identity of the new leader of the Blacktron resurgence.- 991 replies

The Brick Bounty vs BrickBeard's Bounty
JeffBuilds replied to Captain Pirate Man's topic in LEGO Pirates
Well, from a design standpoint, I do like Brickbeard's Bounty better, if only for the modular Cabin. However, something else worth talking about is the minifigures that came with both sets as well. While Brickbeard's bounty has a new captain and Crew, The Brick Bounty has a redesign/revision of Captain Red Beard/Captain Roger, mine, and everybody elses' favorite Pirate Captain. My second favorite minifigure is the cook. In that respect, paying homage to the first wave of pirates, I like the Brick Bounty better. I have both ships myself... well, HAD both ships myself, my Brick Bounty underwent a massive overhaul, but I am leaning more towards the Brick Bounty, if only for Nostalgia tripping with Captain Red Beard. -
MOC Dissection of 74013X3, Aka "The Skull Brother" Five hours of tearing down and building up, and I reproduced "The Skull Brother" From the Youtube Video I previously linked! One of the things I absolutely LOVE about this model is the attention to detail on the ship. A rowboat can be placed on the main deck, and removed with ease. Actually, the fact that the main deck is sturdy and there is plenty of room to maneuver and manipulate figures and props is a big plus in my book. And this is another big plus and minus at the same time for me. The Main deck can be removed with ease, revealing the lower levels of the ship, complete with Cannons and provisions for the crew. While I love this, I don't like the fact that a minifigure can't stand comfortably below deck with the main deck in place. I don't even think it could accomodate a Minifigure in a hat sitting down. Plus, based on personal experience, I've had to remove all the guns, the rowboat, and any figures on the upper deck plate before carefully trying to set the deck plate in place. it takes two minutes or so to get it setting just right. The Stern of the ship, with Navigational wheel and rear sail. One extra thing I added was a pair of 1X2 mounted Stud Shooters, with ammo inside a small barrel next to RJ (Rummy, Junior) The back of the ship (The Poop?) With imposing skeletal Ornamentation. I used a sword from the Ninjago Sky-Pirates line, as well as repositioned his left arm, and equipped it with a black chalice. The figurehead upfront has a similar configuration, but without the sword, because I had a difficult time getting the figurehead to hold the sword, on account of it's close proximity to the mast. Rummy's Brother, Cookie, in the Captain's Cabin, preparing Roger II's Lobster Thermadore. Another thing I dislike about the new build is that it returns the cabin to it's standard size, making it impossible for Roger II with hat and feather to stand comfortably in the cabin with the ceiling in place. Also, the two columns, while annoying, are necessary for the stability of the navigation deck. I also replaced the plate windows with 1X2 curved frames. Next paycheck, I'll put pearl gold lattices into the frames. The interior of the Cabin, part two, with... is that supposed to be a pendulum clock? or a barometer? After the next round of modifications, I may put something else here. Near the front of the cabin, there is a modest table with chairs and other small details, And the all important concealed compartment play feature! And the only other picture worth sharing... I remember something iconic about this kind of picture; Captain Roger/Redbeard, in a Rowboat, with his crewmen rowing him around... I can't remember if it's a picture from the back of a Classic-Pirates era set, or something from the old US Adverts... but something about it compelled me to take a vanity shot as well. Over all, I am enamored with the amount of detail put into this build, and the multiple compartments and play features included with the build ( By which I mean the cannons, removable deck and stern, swivel crane, Anchors (Oh, I added a second anchor on the other side of the ship as well) , The working compass, Stud Shooters... Good times. :) The only major downside I can see, however, is that you can't have minifigures in the bowels of the ship, unless they're laying down, or sitting with their hats in their laps, and the Captain's cabin could stand to be at least one brick taller. I'd also go through and replace many of the Grey or black slicker plates with either brown or dark brown, and the single grey slick studs with Gold ones as well. and the black rails on the ships... oh, in a perfect world, I'd replace all 8 of them with 1X4 Curved slick pieces, and add 1X1 pearl gold studs in the middle of them, to make it look like more of a unified build. Aside from that, if you happen to have 3 Brick bounties just lying around, and bricks enough to build up the captain's cabin and the body of the ship (1 brick, 1.66 Bricks, tops) I would say definitely, go for it! Otherwise, Sit and wait and see what Lego has to offer for us, if anything, come the 30th anniversary of Lego Pirates! I officially rate this build, a Pirate Minifigure with a Hook Hand, because Hookhands are awesome!

I'd have posted pictures sooner, but one of the bulbs in my studio space burned out. Not a major loss; $5 tops. Posting pictures of the completed build tonight, with a small review/critique.

She's a beautiful ship! I like how compact it is, and how much detail you put into it as well!
-
Welp... I was going to be methodical about it, and pace myself over the span of a couple of days, take pictures, that kind of thing... but I built the whole thing in about 5 hours. I'm going to sleep, then I'm going to post pictures, with my thoughts on the build.

EDIT: Apologies to Captain Braunsfeld, After doing a search on "Brick Bounty" for more ideas and insight after posting this thread, I had found he had done something similar with his MoC Brick Bounty. A glaring oversight on my part as I posted this thread, and apologies to Braunsfeld. To your credit, I feel that yours is the superior build upon reading the thread. ;) EDIT THE SECOND: Another three mast configuration, and the THIRD appearance of Billy the Pirate. Also, I love the extra details BrickOn put into his Bigger Bounty as well, including a bed for the Captain, and Bunks below decks for his crewmen, and a vastly superior Galley build. So looking online, I found a video I fell in love with, Where the Author took 3 of the stock Lego Pirates 2015 set, 74013, The Brick Bounty, and made this formidable looking freighter. Citing the author, specs include room for 14 Cannon fixtures, 8 below deck, and 6 topside, and it's fully rigged... with... rigging... I myself had dabbled with two copies of the Brick Bounty myself, after seeing a thread where some builders said that they had difficulty putting a whole ship together with two sets, because of it's piece count. I have procured a third copy of the set, and conspire to merge it into my own MOC. This thread is mostly for the sake of posterity before I tear it down and build it up again, but more than anything, I want to share what changes I have made to my Bigger, Brickier Bounty. The first thing I want to point out is that I extended the hull by one extra segment, and I gave it a third mast. While it does look impressive, ultimately it's difficult to maneuver the figures during play. Also, the plates on the port and starboard sides flanking the bow was a bit of "Cheating" on my part, those red angle plates serve to conceal the awkward connection between the two bow segments. I made it work, but ideally, I'd have used brown plates instead of the dark tan ones. I would have loved if you could stack multiple bow extenders on top of each other flawlessly, but I was able to use plates and studs to make a sturdy, legal assembly. Also note the added sail at the bow of the ship as well. And the working compass inside the Nest in the bow! I've also modified the Anchor mechanism so that Minifigures can manually raise and lower the anchor as well. "Blast it Billy, quit hitting that bottle and give us a hand!" A group shot of the entire crew, featuring several transplants from the CMF series, a couple special figures, and some customs. My personal favorites are the Captain, of course, and a modified "Cookie" ( He has a hook hand now, and is armed with a Meat Cleaver from the CMF series 6 Butcher, and he also has his hat as well) And the exclusive Minifigure from the 2015 exclusive "Pirate Adventure" set, who I have come to affectionately call "Billy" on account of him/his particular face, while common, bears a striking resemblance to a certain famous Celebrity Pitch-Man. The other pictures enclosed are just miscellaneous shots around the ship. Cookie, hard at work in the Galley located near the bow of the ship, as happy as a clam, while another satisfied customer walks off with his Hamburger "Oh my! But Rodrigo, you know I am betrothed to Captain Roger!" "So you are... But what the good captain does not know, will not hurt him, Chere!" Swordsman Samir, the newest addition to the crew, takes his job as the Captain's bodyguard very seriously. Inside the cabin, as Captain Roger II, esquire is enjoying some surf and turf, Bonnie Lass tells him of Rodrigo's treachery. "Arr, I'm not worried, Lass! Men like him be all spark, and no steel! The only reason I keep him around is for Fodder for the Imperial Guardsmen! Plus, it's funny when Samir stares him down!" Other things of note: I've also, through official stock parts, as well as pieces from my own collection, extended the Captain's Cabin by one whole brick, making Figures with hats and embellishments (Roger II's Captain's Hat with Feather, as an example) able to stand comfortably without hitting the ceiling. I will keep you all updated as I make enhancements and improvements on the ship's design.

I can do that, no problem, here are some more shots of the Adventure Galleon, Mk.1. I myself like to call it a Dirigible.
-
I absolutely love everything about this set! the characters have so much personality, and the little blimp is cute! Excellent use of the Raid Zeppelin's balloon elements.
-
About ready to resubmit a new version of the Galleon to ideas in a couple days, but I have no ideas how I want to decorate the bow of the ship. The Skull figurehead is out, but aside from putting the navigational wheel up front, I don't know how else to detail the bow of the airship. Any suggestions?

I love what you did with the Black Pearl, and I recognize the torso on one of those Custom Pirates!!! The light blue one is exclusive to LEGO Stores, I believe from 2015, and included an anthology booklet featuring every LEGO Pirate set manufactured! Great find. :D I need to get my hands on a Pearl someday and see what I can do with it.

Great minds travel the same paths! I did the exact same thing with my pirate queen minifigure, except I swapped out the white arms for Hook's Red arms with the white frilly cuffs.

Lego Forbidden Island 6270 Time lapse video review
JeffBuilds replied to CaptainJackBrickster's topic in LEGO Pirates
I remember I had this set back when I was much, much younger. I still have it, but sadly, it's in pieces. -
A custom figure that can serve as the over-arcing villain to any pirate/fantasy/steampunk story, I present, The Steel Captain. The Steel Captain is the Commander of a cadre of highly industrialized soldiers, known only as the Steel Legion ( to be featured later. Series Seven Evil Knight, swap out the helm for a black Conquistador helmet). They fancy themselves to have the latest and greatest in weaponry, armed with gunmetal short swords and broadswords, black muskets, and gunmetal pistols (Series 17 Highwayman) To Create your own Steel Captain, You'll need: A Collectible Minifigure Series 3 Space Villain, for the gunmetal leg and bionic arm piece, Lego Pirates of the Caribbean 2011 Captain Black Beard, for the Torso, lower body (hip and left leg) , as well as the all important hat. The Gunmetal Hook comes from a Collectible Minifigure series 14 Zombie Pirate. For the beard, I used a black beard from the Dragon Wizard from Lego Kingdoms, Circa 2010, and the Cloth cape and epaulets were spare parts I had lying around; Epaulets possibly from Baron Von Baron, from the Lego Adventurers Egypt line, or from Monster Hunters, and the Cloth cape can easily be obtained from any number of Lego Star Wars Sets.

Hello again, this is Jevil, formerly Jevilideas. I thought I had lost my password to my previous account, Jevil, only to rediscover the E-Mail that was associated with the account and... Well, Since last I introduced myself, I've made several MOCs. I enjoy the old school LEGO Pirates theme, and I enjoy creating custom Minifigures, such as my Avatar (Highwayman's Cape, 2009 Brickbeard's Torso, Goatee/ 'Rascus' Head, 2017 Penguin's Top Hat, Custom built cane with black shaft, Pearl-gold telescope, and clear gem.) . I like to dabble in stop-motion animation whenever I can find the free time, and am always exploring new ideas for exciting projects, beit for Lego Ideas sets or Stop Motion film.

This is a MOC that I designed for Lego Ideas, inspired by the 2009 wave of Lego Pirates sets. The major inspirations behind this set were the new Balloon pieces that were introduced last year in 2016, as well as the fun compact ship that came in the Lego Spongebob set 3817-1, The Flying Dutchman, Circa 2012. However, I did not get past the first 100 votes that I needed to advance to the 6 month grace period to advance. This has not discouraged me from refining the idea for the set, and I plan to re-submit a newer version of the model soon, hopefully with new play features. Since I've last submitted this MOC, it has gone through several major revisions, which I am very eager to share with you in the following weeks.

The Pirate ship that (isn't) in Spider-Man (spoilers)
JeffBuilds replied to TalonCard's topic in LEGO Pirates
Marvel Ultimates? I believe it was around that time, the Red Beard Runner was the Go-To Pirate ship, with battle-damage features, including a collapsing stern and mast, the last of the best wave of LEGO Pirate sets, from 1985 to 1998 or so. -
I took it for granted at the time, but I've come to appreciate The Lego Spongebob set from 2012 the 3817 Flying Dutchman, Especially the ship build.
