Look what I just got - Report your latest Pirate LEGO acquisitions
Bonaparte replied to V()()D()()'s topic in LEGO Pirates
Indeed, I could use the practice :-D What do you think about the suggestion of Mr. Norrington (with a small modification)? Name:The Cross Bone Clipper on Ebay Description:Please don't buy it! -
The Aero Terminator seems fully equipped and ready to handle every situation. You also invested considerable time in making the pictures! Looking extremely good Jeffrey.

You have perfected your ship-building skills almost to the level of art! Really, this is a masterpiece. I took about 15 minutes to check all the details in each picture. I will be re-using some of your ideas for my ships if you don't mind. A tumblehome-effect is nice, but certainly not a must on this ship. Maybe making it a few studs wider could be a possible improvement, but I don't know if this is possible with your technique? A practical question: Shall I update the thumbnail in the index (its the first you see in the index)? Which thumb do you prefer?

Thanks guys :-$ ! I'll do my best to be a good pirate moderator.

Because someone just informed me there is an auction X-D I officially promise that I won't bid on the ship. Once you bought it, I'll just capture it at sea ;-) Isn't that what pirates do? -
I think it's a good idea to start with paper sails (to get the right form and sizes). Later, you can replace the paper sails and use them as a model for making the final sails. I'm also searching for good material to make sails...
-
You were really lucky to get all these sets for that incredible price Mr. Norro. And I'm very happy to see you investing in Pirate sets. I hope you once make a pirate MOC of the size of "The Entrance To The Caves".

Thanks Duke ;-) 20 cannons to be exact (on the gundeck). Some more will be added on the deck. Well Berry, my next ship will be yellow, black and some white (in the windows). The standard colors of the English ships around the year 1800. You're right that it still looks a bit too red, but once I add a small boat to the deck, some cannons/chasers, other stuff, then it is supposed to solved itself. Yep, on a forum with 95% male population this should draw some attention :-D Indeed, I got the idea for the swivels from you Mr. Z. This ship is a bit the result of all the stuff I have seen on the pirate forum. I have already joined the MLCAD empire! I'm designing my next ship with MLCad. When I wrote carronades, I actually meant the swivel guns... But I will also add real carronades and I will select a design from your index :)

Nice little fortress. Amazing what you can build on such a small plate. Some epaulets of the minifigs should be switched. The ones with the shako's should have the red ones (for historical reasons). Once I have sorted all my bricks, I'll try to make a small fort myself.

I agree with the arguments of the Duke. It would be better if all the hull-sections (bow, stern and mid-sections) were cut in the middle. This way it would be possible to use them to make larger ships. Another disadvantage of the standard bow and stern sections is the height. This puts some limitations of the colors of your ship because at a certain height you want to introduce another color (e.g. a yellow banner) over the entire length of the ship. For me it would be best if the height of the stern/bow sections was the same as the mid-sections. I think that you best start ship-building using the standard hull, but after a while, when you get more experience, you will probably prefer to use a brick-build hull.

That's very strange |-/ . Maybe an older version of FF? Well, it doesn't matter, it seems solved.
-
I forgot to put http:// in front of the link. Firefox was happy with that, but IE didn't like it. Now it should be fixed.

This painting is also showing the battle of Trafalgar, so it's probably the one you have seen. But, would I be violating some forum rule if I used these handsome girls for advertising my MOC Mr. Hobbes?
-
Ah, and I have been using my banner for making some advertisement for my MOC threads. I hope that only a minority turns them of. Let me use this topic on "banners" to show my latest banner to you Mr. Hobbes X-D I have another question. Would I be allowed to use this banner? It will attract more attention I think :-D

Which is better, Star TREK or Star WARS?
Bonaparte replied to vahkimetru's topic in Culture & Multimedia
This question is a bit to vague for me to answer. I'm a big fan of Star Trek, but there are the movies and all the different series. It's hard to compare all this with just 6 Star Wars movies. If you would ask if I like the Star Wars movies or Star Trek movies most... Is still wouldn't know :-D -
Why castle-ize it Mr. Tiber? It pirate-ized version fits better with you ;-)

Time to show some progress on L'Orient. The ship now has a removable deck, cannons, carronades, bell, ... I have also been working on the masts/platforms/rigging. Well, see for yourself and let me know what you think. Edit: added 1 picture of the side of the ship
-
Jep, you're right! I've fix it. Thanks!
-
Very useful advice since I'm also planning to make a brick build hull. And you've shown us 2 ships that were not yet in the index *y* ! I hope you start a progress thread when you start building. It will be a big challenge to build the HMS Victory, a first rate ship of the line! So you will be using the yellow/black color scheme?
-
Red zebra - I can't live in a living room
-
In the yellow/black scheme, the hatches should be black. This way they give the impression they are always open (and might make a pirate think twice before attacking). This would also be the historical accurate choice. Picture of HMS Victory with the black hatches, some open, some closed:

Your chance to own a 6250 Cross Bones Clipper
Bonaparte replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
IMHO the Cross Bones Clipper an ugly little ship... Those colors, the sail, flag... looks like it is designed by a small child. What do you guys find so good about it (besides the fact that it seems to be rare)? -
Thanks P. You saved me a lot of time. The cannon index is very usefull, especially when you are looking for ideas and inspiration. This is really a nice piece for making carronades and cannons. I never noticed it before and I don't think I have it. But I'll include some with my next BL order.
-
I would use only these schemes Mr. Phes: - yellow/black/white/brown-->only with standard hull pieces, not with brick-build hull (except rigging). - red/black/brown Why? Historical accuracy and they look very good!
-
I know what you mean... Probably a temporary phenomenon. It's not the first time.
