  1. This is so weird... I don't know what to think of this :-|

I guess you mean Maastricht and not Valkenburg?
  3. Does anyone have the link on Bricklink for the circled part of the picture? I'm working on some carronades and I don't find this item in bricklink (or I have to search through more than 2000 black pieces).
  4. So its Mr. Norringtons birthday. Only 14 year old, born in 1993 like Mr. Tiber. Well, I hope you get lots of Lego presents ;-) . Have a nice birthday!
  5. I think it is very much possible to build this ship on a standard hull. It has only 1 gundeck, so the width you can get with a standard hull in combination with inverted slopes should be OK. Why would you use a brick build hull? The only advantage I see is you have more control on the color scheme because of the height of the bow and stern sections. You have to live with the brown color even if you would want the higher part of the bow/stern to have a different color. Only solution is using colored tape (see some other discussions) or go for the brick build hulls.

I see that the capital of Dutch Limburg is Maastricht. That's where I always go for shopping :) I was actually on a wellness weekend 2 weekends ago in Valkenburg (next to Maastricht). I'm afraid we won't hear from Mr. Tole again. His last visit was 8th December 2006. I think you scared that poor boy Mr. Phes :-D
  7. For the right money, I'll sell you anything :-D Maybe best to check on ebay or bricklink.
  8. Under the Gun - Sisters of Mercy
  9. Two of the best Lego sets ever in one display... Excellent display Mr. Gads
  10. Let's say I would have used different (less) colors. This ship has brown, red, yellow, white, black, grey for the deck, dark grey for those platforms in the masts. That's 7 colors on 1 ship... But sometimes people don't have the luxory to care about the colors when they have to work with the bricks they own.

Mr. Tiber, just out of curiosity, how is the name of the town you live in? I'm just wondering how far we live from each other. My home town is Nijlen (between Lier and Herentals) in Belgium of course.
  12. Noooo, did he? That's not very nice of him. I just going to forget this topic exists :-P At least the dog looks friendly
  13. This is really not my favorite thread :-D
  14. Tumblehome is the narrowing of a ship's hull with greater distance above the water-line. The HMS Victory is a good example. The higher above the water, the narrower the hull becomes: Here is a resized version (I've put it in my brickshelf folder). Can you or Mr. Tiber add it to the first post?
  15. Is this the picture you are talking about? That's indeed a gorgeous ship. I used a capture tool to get it and then removed the text on the flag and part of the picture (just very rough).
  16. Oh dear, I must focus more. I meant bow. Sorry for the confusion. It's really hard to find a picture of the Acheron. This is the only one I could find. I think that black line is going up a (little) bit towards the stern. Your right. Thanks. I won't make that mistake again... . Remember I also used to call you Mr. Timber :-D
  17. The hull is a bit squary. BUT that is also one of the things I actually like about your Archeron... Some changes you can make: - Use these bricks on the stern: - Play with those black lines that run across the ship. Now the are straight: ------------- But you could make them a bit more like this (only a little bit, without exaggerating) : ---_____--- This will not change the structure of the ship, only the look. You can start with the middle-black-line just above the window on the castle and go a bit down towards the middle. - Maybe try to introduce 1 row of slopes in the hull to get a bit the tumblehome. You can experiment a bit on 1 side of the ship. For me, it is always easier to improve on an existing hull. I changed the hull on L'Orient maybe 10 times. Still I'm not 100% happy, but Lego has limitations which we have to accept.
  18. I would improve the ship, but not destroy it. You can try to make it look like the Archeron, but it will always be a Lego version. In the end, you have to look at the ship without comparing it with anything and decide if you like it. When I scroll through the Index, yours is really one of the better ships. Excellent color scheme. Only the "line" of the hull could be improved a bit and it will need some more "details" in a later phase.
  19. Bon Jovi - Dry Country (live version)
  20. This ship was never discussed in a thread of its own. I somehow missed this thread... But I just checked and it was already part of the Index. It's certainly worth a discussion! So here's my feedback: The creator used the same technique to get the tumblehome-effect as I did on L'Orient (by accident because I didn't really look at this ship before). He has invested a lot of time in making the hull. It has a nice line/form. I would have used other windows for the castle and the normal (fully) brown bow/stern sections. The red in here is 1 color too much. The masts should be a bit higher. But overall, this is one of the better ships I would say!
  21. What is this Mr. Norrington? English propaganda to insult the emperor!!! Let me show you a recent picture of the Grande Armee to prove yours are fake X-D
  22. Aha, I also thought you suggested to change the cannons by MOC versions". Thanks for clarifying Z.
  23. I still own some of those old idea books from the '90's. Haven't seen them in years, they are stored (somewhere) in our basement. I plan on searching them during the week to check if they contain some other pirate designs.
  24. Nice pictures! I'm a big fan of these cannons! A quick count tells me you have already 26 on the Archeron. They represent a huge investment. I'm really curious to see some pics with the 3 studs and compare with these.
