The Verve - Lucky Man
-
Actually, I do live with my parents. That's why I can afford to buy Lego :-D Buuuut, I started to build a house of my own which will be finished in about 2 years. So I guess that I'm a bit older than you Mr. Tiber. You are right. Building a good looking 2 decker on the standard hull is nearly impossible. Then you have to cut the hull in 2 pieces like Legeaux once did. But then its much better to go to a custom hull because even when you cut them in 2, the standard hull has other "disadvantages".
-
There was actually a way to date the ship Mr. Phes. In the initial post of this thread is written: You could of course argue that this was Napoleon III who ruled France until 1870 :-D
-
No 2-decker... there is always BL to buy the missing stuff. I'm guessing you need between 300-500 euro to build a mini-fig scale 2 decker with parts from BL (including cannons).
-
It completely finished already. Its based on the Black Seas Barracuda but has 4 hull-mid-sections, a real gundeck (8 canons) and an upper-deck. There is also a galley stove, sleeping quarters for the men, captains quarters. I'll take some pictures soon...

Then you should really check this sites: - http://www.handcraftedmodelships.com/hms-s....php#morephotos - http://members.aol.com/batrnq/Surprise/Sur...tm#Longitudinal I know, but somehow I always identify this scheme with the English... Something like 50 or 55 I guess (rough estimation). This will be the "expensive" part because all my guns are in use on the Excalibur and my English sloop-of-war (doesn't have a name yet).

Nothing to add. You're 100% correct Mr. Tiber!
-
Are you going to build you ship in a yellow/black scheme? My next ship will be a lot like this one (same color scheme), but in mini-fig scale. So it will be English. I will not be using the standard Lego hull pieces, but make a hull with bricks. Otherwise I have some limitations that I don't want. I have also started to experiment with MLCad since yesterday. They idea is to design the ship for 90% in MLCad to have a list of the bricks I need and then order them from BL.

Nice topic, but I think it would be best to make a short overview with some picture of sets per year.

I wonder how old the oldest member of EB is... Well, Happy Birtday Ras74!

I just realized that the gun-ports of this ship should be black i.s.o. yellow (for the sake of historical accuracy). I was doing some research for my next ship (English ship of the line) and by comparing this ship with some real pictures this caught my eye. Most ships on the internet are depicted with gun ports opened, making it hard to see the color.

Nice topic! Here are some of my favorite quotes. Can you guess from who they are??? Death is nothing; but to live defeated and inglorious is to die daily. History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon. Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake. Take time to deliberate, but when the time for action has arrived, stop thinking and go in. The best way to keep one's word is not to give it. Victory belongs to the most persevering.

Thanks Berry! The ship is inspired on most of the ships that are in the Index: MOC ships :-D . And it is inspired by the HMS Surprise/HMS Rose. Recently I have discovered some modeling sites where you can see much more details than on the normal ship pictures you can find with Google. A good example is this site. I have almost finished the deck, but need to order some parts on bricklink that don't have the right color. You must mean the plate under the captains feet. No special reason for it being upside down :)

You're becoming the master of the small MOCs Mr. Phes. It looks good and very official. With "official" I mean: like a real set. I like the fabuland roofs. And the choice of minifigs is excellent. One day I hope you have the time to make a bigger MOC, like a ship or a fortress.
-
Happy birthday to both of you!
-
My suggestion: don't sell this! You will regret it later...
-
I like it VERY much Aredhel! Its nice to build a MOC based on a story (crew captured by islanders) and islander are excelent for making stories... This is turning out to be a rather big MOC. Do you plan to add some more buildings inside the fence? Strange humor you have :-D

Wow, that's a nice flag Imperator. I might have seen it also in some painting of Napoleon. I think I'll print it...

You will learn fast enough Chris. Its just a matter of (a lot of) patience and exercise.

LIBRARY: Pirate Torso/Decal/Sticker Designs
Bonaparte replied to Bonaparte's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Very nice job Norrington! You learn really fast. They are added to the library. I just checked and paint has an excellent resize feature. There are not so many options, so it should be easy for you to find. I have a dutch version, so I don't know how this menu will be called in English... -
Thats not very historically correct of AOE 3. I might have that game... have to check it.

Brickshelf find: Mini fig scale Milenium Falcon
Bonaparte replied to 5150 Lego's topic in LEGO Star Wars
This is much better than the UCS version from Lego. Lego corporation, watch this and learn!! -
Thanks for the pictures. Your ship is really nearly perfect! Don't ask me what the "nearly" is, because I can't think of anything for the moment :-D I made the masts of L'Orient in (almost) exactly the same way. They are very solid. But the rigging must really secure the lowest elements (from the deck till the big platform). From top to bottom I used: Partial number: 2538 Boat mast top, partial number: 2539 Boat mast Platform, partial number: 2537 Boat mast Middle, partial number: 4844 Boat mast base, partial number: 2539 Boat mast Platform, partial number: 2537 Boat mast Middle, partial number: 4844 Boat mast base, I guess these are I mast-section higher than on the Sirius.

I've fixed it! Thanks for informing me Glenn, errrrr Mr. Tiber :-D
