  1. Will it have Ackerman Geometry when you steer it?
  2. Not quite :-) flip it - no flash - flip it again, it flashes! I added one of these to my 9398 on the drive motors circuit - somehow the batteries drained much much quicker
  3. nice and compact which is your goal - look at the F1 sets and MOCs to get an idea of using springs in this fashion
  4. you could use a double back to back pair of cylinders but you'd have to use a forklift-esque mechanism with chains or string to get any telescopic benefit. (i.e a distance multiplier)
  5. HOG steering knobs seem to be great for pushing on

  7. on mine the arms kept breaking off after the plastic got old... :-( so I have many disabled technic figures
  8. good idea you could also (and i've seen it done elsewhere) run one motor for the drive and 2 servos for the steering then you can control the crawl, FWS, RWS, 4WS etc...
  9. Much better front axle/steering hubs now.... still would like to see two differentials in there....
  10. It was a long time of careful auction searching for badly advertised and misspelled items and auction sniping.... Since then the prices and public have gotten wiser... but I do agree with the release of 42009 the price will come down but probably not for MSIB or complete sets in good condition with both manuals .... if you can find them 8466 remains my unconquered challenge.... maybe one day in a carboot sale....

Part of my technic renaissance was bagging ex-flagships on ebay - not MSIB of course but I managed to get 8421 & 8455 for under 100€ each, and 8439 for about 35€ - this was about 3 years ago though I loved building 8455 - 10 pneumatic cyclinders for making all sorts of contraptions with (it still is the back hoe) and had actually costed building it from parts but my auction snipers got me a good deal 8421 I received built already - its very disty still and will rebuild it soon just to clean the parts. Battery box is not forgiving to acid leaks from the batteries. then 9398 came along and well - I need to do some more MOCs now....

I had no trouble putting these on my new rims the ribs mean they push the foam up and fill the tyre weird but better shaped foam would solve this. the rim never slips inside the tyre like on the lego ones. the grip is phenomenal and the looks even better... so good to use lego tyres indoors and these outdoors.
  13. The air-tank would be a pressure accumulator - not a 'reservoir' to store the fluid
  14. if you use a double side acting cylinder as the source of the pumping - you'd need a one way valve somewhere to stop the opposite chamber sucking while the other one is pushing
  15. Shame you couldn't use the original balloon tyres, they must rub

Closed systems would be tricky as there is always seepage Inagree You would need a reservoir to contain the pump inside (covering the holes of the pump and accumulator/reservoir) This would ensure no air goes into the system and the system if it remains pressurised would not let air in any of the joints or connections...
  17. as we can see water, though not compressible, is no good to the metal parts then you have to be careful what oil to use as certain oils will be no good to the rubber seals.... using something like green LHM from citroën Hydraulics - needs special seals that are made for that oil the tops of the cyclinders need tighter seals to stop/reduce leakage, the whole system needs to be free from air, so self bleeding and definately pressure regulated and all the ends would need little clips to stop them popping off
  18. With the correct gearing buggy motors could be 'interesting' I have 2 buggy motors waiting plus PF to 9v cables and just having too much fun with the stock 9398 to want to take it apart but watch this space...
  19. Nothing wrong with rubber bands good old 8851 needed them too....
