I guess that the other side of it is that retailers only have so much shelf space so if they keep older sets for sale they don't have the room for newer sets.

Thanks everybody for the feedback, my plan is to build a second set when I need them. I have kept the plans and it only takes a couple of hours to throw them together.

Over the past month I have been looking for some shelves to display my Lego Technic on, in the past I have used book shelves but these are a bit too small and I have outgrown them. I have looked around locally but have not found anything suitable; they were either too small or too expensive. Recently on eBay I found shelves that were perfect for what I wanted to do however they were located on the mainland and freight was too expensive, with this in mind I decided to design and build my own. Wanting to make it as easy as possible I decided to build them using standard sized MDF. A trip to Bunnings and I confirmed the sizes of MDF they stocked and the price, for around $50 I would be able to build shelves that would be perfect for what I wanted to do. I sat down at home and drew up some rough plans. My plan was to make the shelves 900mm wide, 600mm high and 450mm deep (this was the measurements I was most concerned about as I wanted to be able to display my sets side by side instead of head on like I had on the narrowed shelfs I had before) Saturday came and I made a trip to Bunnings, grabbing the required MDF, pine, some nails and screws plus a white sheet of paneltec board for the back, I was tossing up between this or a thinner sheet of MDF but felt the white would look better as the backing board. Below is the rundown of what I used to build this, the total cost was $49.80 - 2 x 900x450x12mm MDF sheeting (Top and middle shelves) - 1 x 900x600x12mm MDF sheeting (Cut in half to make the two sides) - 2 x 1.8m lengths of pine (1 used to make shelf supports, the other used for the bottom and rear stays) - 1 packet 8G - 35mm screws (About 20 used) - 1 packet 25mm flat head nails (Used to nail on rear paneltec board) - 1 x 8G – 75mm wood screw (Used to connect rear stay to bottom stay) Below are some photos of the building process and the end result. - NEW LINK: http://mizibunktechnic.blogspot.com.au/p/over-past-month-i-have-been-looking-for.html

I have been using Excel up until now and that has been good. My other passion is programming so I am just starting to design my own custom software that does exactly what I wantt, the way I want.

I just use a small paint brush and some compressed air, I think some dust adds character to a set.

When I was growing up I only had one of these sets but I did really like them, does a line like this exist and if not do you see TLG ever bringing something like this out again the future?

They all look okay but nothing really jumps out at me. 42000 is way over priced for what it is, seeing the local price ($159AUS) means I might not even get it. 42008 is about the pick for me but it still is not something I am desperate to get.

I built a mount which is just some beams and pins that connects to the roof using the bars that are already part of the model. The only issues I found were that the extra weight of the camera does slow the model down a bit and due to it sitting high on the roof it is a little bit unstable. That price really makes me question if I should buy it or put the money towards something else.

Thanks for the replies. I have not been lending out LEGO as I don't have enough spare to do that :( I have been thinking and I am going to build a bit of a repo fleet.

I was the much the same when I started back in Technic a few years ago and I had to get use to the new way studless is built, the more you build the better you will get at it.

Does it really matter? Call it what you want and just enjoy it :)

Watching an episode a few weeks ago I started to think about the equipment they use and if this could be built using Technic. Here is my attempt at a repo style towing trailer. It has been designed to tow set 9395 while being pulled behind set 9398. While not shown in the video, I have been driving this around my house as I have been building and testing this over the past week. I have changed some of the gearing's on 9398 to increase the speed that it drives at. I have a few sets built which I keep as they are, everything else is sorted by piece in some divided cases. If I every decide to sell any I build them and sell them like that. As somebody above said, what is more important to you?
