  1. Some photos on my blog: launcestonlegotechnicbuilder.blogspot.com.au/2012/04/unimog-8110-pictures.html
  2. Here are some photos of the mod :) I removed this part: And replaced it with this part: Here: Now it works much better and does not stall as it is turning. I just need to be careful when turning I don't let it hyper extend. Paul
  3. Problem fixed :) I replaced the white clutch gear with a normal gear of the same size and it works much better.
  4. Hi all, I have done a search but could not find anything about this. Has anybody else found with the rear crane, when turning it "sticks" at some points and needs to be manually moved? this seems to be a problem more often when it has something in the claw (even something like a pen) Any suggestions? Paul
  5. Great thread I have just read all 69 pages :) I sold off ALL my Lego last year and I am now building my collection back up, this is the first new Technic I have purchased and boy am I glad I did :) I also have 8068 and 8069 which I have not built as yet, just using the pieces from these two sets what would be some good mods? I am thinking of adding a trailer and maybe a bucket for the front of it. Paul
  6. Hi, I am in the process of building up a train layout with some buildings to help add to the overall theme of it. I have built the following buildings: -Crane loaded (from set 7939) - Office on poles - Take away shop - Union office - Works Depot - Train Inspector / OH&S office - Train Control tower. What are some ideas of other buildings that would fit in with this theme? I don’t have a lot of space left so smaller type buildings would work best. Paul
  7. Thank you for merging them, some forums I am part of prefer to have things split up. I will keep that in mind for the future. In that photo I had removed the roof and then put it back on but had not pushed it down, I will fix that up as it was something I didn't notice myself. I am planning on giving it all a good clean once I am happy with the general layout. Paul

  9. Thanks everybody for the replies, I am still not 100% sure which way I will go. I am going to put the Yellow 7939 on eBay and see if it sells for a decent price. Paul
  10. Last night I found 3677 (red cargo train) so I purchased it, my plan was to keep the wagons I wanted and then sell the rest off to help cover the costs. No having built it up I am thinking about selling the engine from 7939 and keeping the one from 3677 to use, I just prefer it for some reason. Am I crazy and what do most people feel is the better engine? Paul
  11. First I just wanted to say that I never expected such an excellent level of replies when I first posted this topic, clearly it is a topic that people have a lot of passion for. Second I would like to thank everybody for the replies, I have read all over of them and they all have some excellent points. Paul
  12. I have been looking around online at various forums related to model trains, it seems that none really cover L gauge trains at all. Does a feeling exist in the model train world that Lego trains (L gauge) are not "real" like the other types of model trains and because of this they are not talked about and in some ways "looked down upon" by people with "real" model trains? I wonder why this is the case and what if anything we can do as a hobby to change this and gain support for them? Paul
  13. I am just in the process of setting this up. http://paulslgaugetrains.blogspot.com/ I have just uploaded some more photos to my blog: http://paulslgaugetrains.blogspot.com/ Youtube video of my train setup http://youtu.be/aM7-kt43N28
  14. Thank you, I am half thinking about pulling out the pink stairs and building some different ones. Paul
  15. Thanks for the suggestions. The building will be two stories in top of this so three total. Paul
  16. Hi all, As part of my train layout I am building a few buildings around it, I have built a couple so far and they look fairly good (I think) however last night I made a start on the office building and have ran in to a problem. Looking at the photos below you can see what I am planning on doing, building the office building up higher so that I can have parking under it. The issues is the weight of the office building will buckle / break the base plate I am using, putting a few loose breaks on it last night showed just how much this is happening. Any ideas / suggestions? I really don't want to build the whole bottom layer solid as that will not look as good. Paul
  17. Some more photos: Train COntrol Cafe Cafe Workshop Workshop Top view.
  18. Thanks for the feedback, I don't have any more track so I am stuck with what I have shown in the pictures. I am going to move the long siding in a little bit.
  19. This is the start of my train layout. My plan is to build the following on it: - Train control tower - Storage shed - Take away shop - Train workshop - Break room / office I spent quite a bit of time last night making sure I was happy with the track before I start building the buildings, I think it is about the best track layout I can do with the space and pieces I have. Paul
  20. This is what I am aiming for :) Thanks everybody for the replies. Paul
  21. HI all, I am sorry if this topic has been covered before, I did a search but could not find anything related to it. Basically I have a large sheet of MDF which I have my train set up on, now I am happy with my layout I want to attach the tracks so they don't move around as much. What methods exist for doing this and what have other people found that works / does not work? Paul
  22. Thank you for the reply and answers to my questions, makes buying extra parts much easier. Paul
  23. Hi all, I am very new to the whole Lego Train world having being a Lego City fan for the first 10 years of my life and then moving on to Lego Technic for the last 18 years on and off. I sold all my Lego Technic late last year and now I have purchased my first train (7939) which I built over the weekend. I now have some questions: 1- Should / does anybody else's train fly off the tracks at higher speeds? I have already crashed quite a few times and as mine is up off the floor on my desk it breaks when it flies off. 2- I am getting my head around the various systems used in the past as I have never had anything to do with trains before, can the older rolling stock be used with this train / track? 3- Due to the space I have to set this up I can't lay out the track like it shows on the box so I have done it a different way so it fits in the space I have, does anybody have any suggestions for possible layouts using the track from this set? Thanks Paul
